Using A Ps4 Controller On Ps5
Is the PlayStation 5 backwards controller compatible?
With announcement of the brand new PlayStation 5 DualSense controller, you might be wondering if your current PS4 DualShock 4 controller will also work on the new console.
Today, PlayStation introduced DualSense, the controller that will accompany the Playstation 5.
While many expected the PlayStation 5’s controller to follow the same naming scheme of its predecessors and be named DualShock 5, the new DualSense naming suggests a controller than is quite a bit different than the PS4 controller that most of us are used to.
How A Ps4 Controller Works With Ps5
You can use a PS4 controller with PS5 easily, but the downside is you can only use your PS4 pad to play PS4 games on PS5. You cannot use your DualShock 4 to play any PS5 specific games and that’s because of all the PS5 specific features according to Sony: We believe that PS5 games should take advantage of the new capabilities and features were bringing to the platform, including the features of DualSense wireless controller, says Sony in a statement on the PlayStation blog . This also extends to “PlayStation officially licensed third-party gamepad controllers” too.
If you do sync up a PS4 pad with your PS5, if you try and play anything designated as a PS5 game it’ll flash up a little warning saying “PS5 games can’t be played using the DUALSHOCK 4”.
Thankfully, the benefits of using the PS5 controller are seriously worth it. You’ll just need to buy a second if you want to play co-op or simply have a spare to switch out.

Reason : An Easy Entry Point To Cloud Computing: Playstation Now
Microsoft has their Xbox Game Pass. Sony has PlayStation Now. Both of which you have to pay a monthly subscription fee to use.
In business, its far better to have a known recurring income from a subscription than to have sporadic income coming from things such as controllers. Income can be easily predicted, data can be collected on buyers, and money can be safely reinvested.
Both services live up in the cloud and can serve people across the globe. We are looking at a future where you could play Halo Infinite on your mobile on the bus home from work, then immediately jump on the Xbox when you are home, to finally jump on the Ipad when you go to bed. Seamlessly playing the same game across multiple machines.
Playstation 5 Media Remote
Your PlayStation 5 is a fantastic gaming machine, but it can do even more sitting at the heart of your entertainment setup. Beyond games, the PlayStation 5 offers access to a host of streaming media and even can serve as a 4K UHD Blu-Ray player . You can navigate all of this with the DualSense controller, but its not labeled for that, so the PlayStation 5 Media Remote can serve as a better comrade when youre done gaming and just want some passive entertainment. The PlayStation 5 Media Remote gets you streaming in no time with dedicated buttons to launch Netflix, Disney+, and YouTubeor even Spotify if you want some jams. It totes media playback controls clearly labeled as well, so no more guessing which button on your controller pauses the movie. This controller can even do something your DualSense cant: adjust your TVs volume, as it has a built-in IR transmitter to control the volume on compatible TVs.

How To Use A Ps4 Or Ps5 Controller With Iphone And Ipad Games
Use your favorite controller instead of the touchscreen

What’s more, it only takes a few seconds to connect a PS4 or PS5 controller to your iPhone or iPad. Just note that you will not experience any haptic feedback or extra pull from the adaptive triggers when using the PS5 DualSense Controller on an iOS device, but it will still work.
With devices like the iPad Pro M2 and iPhone 14 Pro proving more powerful than ever, they make great gaming devices. Here’s how to use a PS4 or PS5 controller with your iPhone and iPad.
Will Your Existing Ps4 Controller Be Compatible
Update August 3, 2020: According to PlayStation’s blog post:
“The DualShock 4 wireless controller and PlayStation officially licensed third-party gamepad controllers will work with supported PS4 games.”
This means that your controller will work on the PS5, but only on supported PS4 games. So if you plan to play any PS5 titles, you’ll unfortunately need to pick up the new DualSense controller designed specifically for the PS5.
PlayStation’s reasoning for this decision is that they “believe that PS5 games should take advantage of the new capabilities and features were bringing to the platform, including the features of DualSense wireless controller”.

How To Connect A Ps5 Controller To A Ps4 Console
Once you’ve got an adapter, all you’ll need is your PS4 and your DualSense controller. Getting your controller working will only take a few seconds.
Plug your adapter into your PS4 console via an open USB port.
Once plugged in, press the pairing button on your adapter. Once it’s in pairing mode , you’ll need to put your DualSense in pairing mode, too.
Hold the PlayStation button and the Create button on your DualSense controller to enter pairing mode. You’ll see your controller start flashing blue when it’s in pairing mode.
Make sure your PS5 is off or, at least, that your DualSense controller is totally disconnected from your PS5 before you try to pair your controller with your adapter.
Once both devices are in pairing mode at the same time, they will automatically connect to one another and pair.
Once paired, you’ll be able to start using your PS4 with your DualSense controller as you’d expect.
How Do I Connect My Ps4 Controller To My Ps5
One of the biggest benefits of such backward compatibility is with multiplayer games. If you are playing a PS4 exclusive title, one person can use the DualSense pad while the other can work with the DualShock controller. So, you will not need to buy additional gear for enjoying multiplayer mode on many PS4 games.
Also, familiarity can play a big part in your overall enjoyment of the game. Many people will find it more convenient to play PS4 games with the corresponding DualShock controller. So, this backward compatibility has a lot of practicality.
And fortunately, the process of connecting a PS4 controller to a PS5 console is fairly simple. All you will need is a micro-USB cable and a DualShock 4 controller.

Reason : The Psvr Is Forwards Compatible With The Ps5
The PSVR, Playstations answer to the VR craze, is compatible with the PS5.
That means that the PS4 Camera and the Move controllers are too.
But what has this got to do with the PS4 controller working with the PS5?
Well, if Sony has gone to the trouble of making the PSVR headset and extras compatible with the PS5, then why have they not made the PS4 controller backwards compatible for all titles on the PS5 too.
Makes sense, right?
Should I Connect My Ps5 Controller To The Ps4
If the DualSense controller is your only option, and you don’t have a DualShock or other PS4-compatible controller lying around, then it’s probably justified to use the PS5 controller on the PS4.
However, using the PS5 controller on the PS4 won’t really give you that next-gen experience. Its Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers would function as if you are playing a PS4 game on the PS5 – in that they don’t work. Plus, given the DualSense is allegedly prone to drifting after approximately 417 hours, we’d recommend saving that time for PS5 games in the future.
If you’re in the position of owning a PS4 but not a PS5 and need a new controller, we’d probably recommend not picking up a DualSense for now, either.

The Ps5 Has Limited Backward Compatibility
Backward compatibility is one of the most exciting features we have become accustomed to with next-gen consoles. This allows you to play your favorite titles from past generations on your new console, eliminating the need for digging out your old console and cables.
Although the PS5 allows you to play your favorite PS4 titles, sometimes with a few improvements, the PS5 backward compatibility feature has been somewhat limited, as it is trickier to play PS3 and PS2 games.
For instance, you will need a PS Plus Premium subscription and an excellent internet connection to stream PS3 games, as you can’t download them to your console. On the other hand, Microsoft has put more effort into providing backward compatibility with its Xbox Series X and S consoles, as it allows you to download and play Xbox One, Xbox 360, and even some original Xbox games.
Limitations Using Ps5 Controller With Ps4 Console
Major features of the DualSense controller won’t be usable on PS4.
This means that haptic feedback and adaptive triggers won’t work when using your DualSense on PS4. Furthermore, your mileage may vary with functionality like holding the PlayStation button when your console is off to turn your console on.
Though, you won’t have any trouble using all the standard features of your controller to play games, so no need to worry about being at a disadvantage.

Can You Use Ps4 Controllers On The Ps5
While the PlayStation 5 offers compatibility with the PS4’s DualShock 4 controller, there are a few exceptions that users should be aware of.
While the PlayStation 5 has released in select countries, Sony’s new console will be available worldwide in just a couple of days. The console ships with a new DualSense controller, putting an end to the long-running DualShock controllers used on past systems. However, the PS4’s DualShock 4 controllers will work on the PS5 – but there are some exceptions to know about.
Speculation started before the PS5 launched that the PS4’s DualShock 4 controllers would work on the system. This was mostly due to the fact that the PlayStation 5 is backwards compatible with most PS4 games. Prior to launch, Sony revealed that DualShock 4 controllers would work on the PS5 – but only with PS4 games being played on the new system. Unfortunately, anyone who wants to use the PS4’s controller to play PS5 games on the new console are out of luck.
