Rather, your own specific needs will determine which one is the most valuable for you. If you want to save some money, love digital gaming, and want to stream 4K movies, the Xbox One S All-Digital will be the best console for you. However, if you want a box that has stronger overall hardware and more exclusives to enjoy, the PlayStation 4 is the perfect choice.

Why Resolution Doesn’t Matter
The Xbox One is multiple times more powerful than its predecessor, the Xbox 360. Just because the game resolution isn’t higher doesn’t mean the graphics aren’t better. The Xbox One can have more characters, particles, and special effects on-screen due to improved hardware. It has better artificial intelligence, better lighting, better physics, and better-looking textures. Plus, it can render all of this while maintaining a consistent frame rate. Games look and perform better on the Xbox One than on the older generation. While games on the Microsoft console may not look as good as their PS4 counterparts, they still look great.
Consider this about resolution. The Nintendo NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, and Wii consoles ran at 480i resolution . Still, the graphics changed from one generation to the next despite the resolution being the same.
Also, many Xbox 360 games weren’t even 720p, yet the games still looked very good. Your favorite Xbox 360 games, and many PS3 games, were probably 540p, 600p, or some other sub-HD resolution upscaled to 720p or 1080p on your TV.
While the PS4 is more powerful, it doesn’t always achieve the mythical 1080p and 60 fps target.
Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Picture Quality
As mentioned above, the actual gaming performance of the two consoles is incredibly close, although VRR does give the Xbox Series X the upper hand in terms of fluidity assuming you’ve got a compatible TV.
The long and short of it is that both consoles provide native 4K gaming at frame rates that are often double those of their predecessors, and there’s often extra graphical detail and polish, too. You might be playing the same games as those people still using a PS4 or Xbox One, but there’s no denying the generational upgrade in terms of presentation and performance.
If you’re considering using one of these next-gen consoles as a Blu-ray player, there are things to bear in mind, such as the fact that the Xbox Series X supports Dolby Vision but the PS5 does not. On the other hand, the Xbox Series X is a fair bit louder than the PS5 when spinning a 4K Blu-ray.
Ultimately, neither is up there with even affordable standalone players such as the Sony UBP-X700 for detail and subtlety, although each puts in a perfectly respectable performance.
All told, it’s a case of swings and roundabouts here. Gaming performance is roughly equal, the PS5 is the better Blu-ray player and the Xbox Series X is marginally the better video streamer. Ultimately, which is right for you will depend on your priorities, but this round has to go down as a draw.

Best Xbox One S Games
Gears of War 4 Acting as the pioneering example of HDR on Xbox One S, Gears of War 4 was the first of a few select titles to support the feature.
Forza Horizon 3 Heralded as one of 2016s best racers, Horizon 3 looks even better with a healthy dose of HDR on Xbox One S.
Final Fantasy 15 It turns out HDR is just what Noctis and friends needed, adding an extra helping of colour to the JRPGs gorgeous open world.
ReCore It may have felt somewhat unfinished and underwhelming, but ReCore was a gorgeous sight to behold at times. The sandy environments are made even better with HDR enabled.

Xbox One Vs Ps: Hardware
The PS4 Slim and Xbox One S are both impressively sleek, offering attractive designs that look great under a TV and can fit into a backpack without a problem. The newest PS4 has a slight edge in terms of sheer smallness, though it lacks an optical input for high-end gaming headsets.
Sony’s 4K-ready PS4 Pro has a chunkier, hamburger-like design, while the Xbox One X, which is even more powerful than the Pro, is somehow slimmer than the Xbox One S.
Both consoles start with 500GB of storage that you can easily expand by connecting one of the best external hard drives for PS4 and Xbox One. PS4 owners also have the option of opening up their consoles to swap in a new 2.5-inch or SATA drive.
Each controller has its perks the Xbox One pad has textured grips and can be customized via the Xbox Design Lab, while Sony’s DualShock 4 is highly ergonomic and has a touchpad and reactive lightbar. The PS4 controller is the only one that supports micro USB charging right out of the box Xbox One owners will need to rely on AA batteries or buy a $25 charging kit.
Thanks to the $299 PlayStation VR headset, PS4 is the only of the two consoles to currently support virtual reality. The PSVR’s game lineup has grown quite compelling over the years, too, headlined by such major titles as Tetris Effect, Resident Evil 7, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission and Moss.
There’s currently no equivalent for Xbox One, and it doesn’t look like Microsoft plans to bring VR to Xbox anytime soon.

Removable And External Hard Drives
Only the PS4 offers a removable hard drive, which means that users can upgrade the factory 500 GB unit if necessary.
Xbox One also offers a 500 GB hard drive, but users cannot replace. Xbox One does include two USB ports intended to offer external storage in case console owners use up all 500 GB. There is also a 1TB version of the Xbox One that costs $50 extra , which is a better choice for gamers seeking more storage space.
In March 2017, Sony announced the 4.50 “Sasuke” update to the PS4 and PS4 Pro consoles. This update lets PlayStation VR headset owners watch 3D Blu-ray movies and also supports external hard drives up to 8TB. The external hard drive connects to the PS4 via USB and you can install games on the external hard drive instead of the PS4’s built-in hard drive. The Xbox does not support external hard drives.
Disc Drives And Storage
The Xbox One S, Xbox One X, PS4 Pro and PS4 have physical disc drives, with the Xbox One consoles also able to play 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays. Sony, even as a founding member of the Blu-ray Disc Association, decided against adding a 4K Blu-ray deck to either PS4. They are still able to play conventional 1080p Blu-rays, but not Ultra HD discs.
The Nintendo Switch can do neither. The Japanese firm opted to dispense with discs altogether, with games coming on cartridge instead, much like the 3DS and Nintendo consoles of yore.
Games are also available via download stores, but considering how stingy Nintendo has been with on-board storage, you’ll have to invest in a microSD card to store more than a couple at a time.
The Xbox One S was originally available in a 500GB size, although the 1TB version is the standard model you’ll find in stores these days. The Xbox One X also sports a 1TB drive.
The latest PS4 is available in 500GB and 1TB sizes, while the PS4 Pro is a 1TB console. All Xbox and PlayStation machines have the ability to increase the storage through third-party hard drives – via external USB 3.0 HDDs. In addition, all PS4 models can be expanded through swapping the internal 3.5-inch internal drives.
The Switch, on the other hand, comes with 32GB of built-in storage. Big-name games, especially those from Nintendo itself, often take up at least half of that.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Which Should You Buy
While the Xbox Series X and PS5 are close on price and performance, the big question is what kind of games you want to play and, importantly, how much you want to pay for them. If you can sacrifice the Sony exclusives, then Xbox Game Pass is a dream if you dont want to spend the earth on games and especially if youre a Bethesda fan. In turn though, with its bold choices around the DualSense controller, the PS5 feels like more of a new gen experience and has a VR option on the way. Truthfully you arent going to lose with either and it might just be a case of choosing which console to buy first.
And The Best Console Is
Game selections are a matter of taste, though, and the PS4 or Xbox One might have more games that appeal to you personally. There’s also the issue of the Switch, while benefitting from portability, not being nearly as powerful as the PS4 and having no 4K option.
My own personal gaming setup involves a PS4 connected to my TV, a Switch that I travel with or use on the couch, and a gaming computer. Consider the different factors and decide which system is right for you. It might even be more than one.

Xbox One S Vs Ps: Design
The Xbox One S and PS4 Slim were both designed to be refined versions of the original consoles and thats given Microsoft, in particular, a chance to clean up its act. The Xbox One S is smaller and much more modern looking than its predecessor, perhaps because Microsoft has managed to integrate the power supply on its latest console. As youd expect, the PS4 Slim is smaller than the original PS4 too, but the difference in size isnt so significant.
Winner Draw
The original PS4 was a much smarter machine than the original Xbox One, and came with the added bonus of no power brick. However, nowadays theyre equally compact and stylish. The PS4 looks cooler, but the Xbox One runs a little quieter, so take your pick.

Xbox One Vs Ps: Bottom Line
It may seem odd to come to a conclusion on the best last-generation console, but as these machines are still getting games made for them, they are far from irrelevant. Ultimately, the PS4 is the overall winner, all down to its larger selection of exclusive games.
However, you can’t go wrong with an Xbox One S, especially when combined with the the frankly absurd bargain that Xbox Game Pass offers.
In basic terms, if you don’t have an PS4 and have an Xbox One, then it’s still worth snapping up Sony’s last-gen console, especially if you can find it at a bargain price, And the same applies in reverse. There is a overall winner here, but it’s basically you, the console gamer.

If you’re looking to buy a games console, you have more choice than ever. The next generation of games consoles has made a stylish entrance, with Sony’s PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X proving that console gaming is one of the most popular pastimes on the planet.
Of course, you’ll generally have to pay more for the privilege of owning one, which begs the question: what about the less expensive options? Fortunately, neither Sony nor Microsoft is ready to give up on the PS4 or Xbox One just yet. Both consoles will still have access to the latest games for a little while longer, making them a great choice for the bargain savvy gamers out there.
And then there’s the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, supercharged versions of their respective base consoles that have upgraded capabilities, including 4K HDR playback. Though sadly, these superpowered consoles aren’t much cheaper than their next-gen counterparts. You might also want to game on the go: Nintendo’s Switch and Switch Lite are both extraordinarily popular and should not be overlooked.
In this article, however, well leave the flagship next-gen powerhouses, “Pro” and “X” machines and Nintendo Switch consoles to one side, and just stick to comparing the PS4 and Xbox One S. From specs and exclusive games to multiplayer services and, of course, the all-important subject of price we’ll pit both machines against one another in every conceivable way.
Faster Performance Higher Frame Rates
The Xbox Series X and Series S have dramatically more powerful CPUs than previous-generation consoles didin the neighborhood of four times as powerful as their predecessor in raw speed and the number of cores and threads, to say nothing of seven years worth of efficiency and other improvements. This means faster user interfaces and much faster load times,1 as well as more sophisticated character and game behaviors, and just more stuff on screen at any given moment.
But the biggest improvements are most apparent in frame rates, which should hit 60 frames per second much more often this generation than last. The more frames per second, the more often the controller and the game are communicating. So a new Series X or Series S should feel like it responds faster and more reliably to your inputs. And when games cant maintain consistent frame rates, support for variable refresh rates should help keep those games from feeling unresponsive. Recent examples here include Diablo 2: Resurrected and Psychonauts 2, both of which offer 60 FPS modes on Series X and S unavailable on the Xbox One. The upcoming Battlefield 2042, is supposed to run at 60 FPS, but never manages it on Xbox One or even the PlayStation 4. On the Series X and S, performance in the recent beta was consistently smooth.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Price
The Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are identically priced, coming in at £449 . But you’ll struggle to get either at their recommended retail price, as stock has been scarce since launch, and whenever extra consoles appear they’re snapped up faster than most people can pull their credit card from their wallet.
We’d never recommend paying over the odds for a marked-up console, but if you really are determined you’ll find that the Xbox Series X costs a fair bit less than the PS5. Of the two very in-demand consoles, it seems the PS5 is the most in-demand.
There are more affordable, disc-less versions of each console available. The Xbox Series S costs just £249 , while the PS5 Digital Edition is quite a lot more expensive, at £359 .
It’s worth bearing in mind, though, that the PS5 Digital Edition is simply a standard PS5 with the disc drive removed, whereas the Xbox Series S has a number of performance downgrades when compared to the Xbox Series X. In other words, the two disc-less next-gen consoles aren’t really designed to compete directly with one another.

Xbox One Vs Ps: Is Ps4 Or Xbox More Powerful

PS4 and Xbox One multiply the power of Xbox 360 and PS3. More importantly, theyre built with smarter internal designs, learning from some of the mistakes of last-generation consoles.
Chip manufacturer AMD is behind most of these upgrades. Both the original Xbox One and the Xbox One S have a custom, 1.75GHz AMD 8-core CPU, while the Xbox One X bumps that up to a 2.3GHz 8-core chip.
The base PS4 CPU remained clocked at 1.6GHz and contains a similar custom AMD 8-core CPU with x86 based architecture, while the PS4 Pro bumps that clock speed up to 2.13GHz.
Xbox One vs PS4
The original PS4 boasts a 1.84 teraflop GPU thats based on AMDs Radeon technology. Meanwhile the original Xbox One graphics chip, also with an AMD Radeon GPU, had a pipeline for 1.31 teraflops, although this increased to 1.4 teraflops with the Xbox One S and to a whopping 6.0 teraflops on the Xbox One X.
The PS4 Pro, meanwhile, has a GPU with a considerably increased 4.2 teraflops of graphical horsepower.
When it came to the original consoles, the PS4 won out in terms of raw power, although the Xbox One S closed the gap considerably.
Microsoft, with the release of the Xbox One X took the title of most powerful console from Sony.
