Which One Is Better Ps4 Or Xbox

Xbox One Vs Ps4 Price Difference

PS4 vs Xbox One – Which is Better? (Xbox One vs PS4 Review)
  • PS4 was initially much cheaper than Xbox One
  • But price drops have since leveled the playing field

On release, the PS4 price was the more tempting deal: $399 for the console and DualShock 4 controller. The Xbox One was relatively expensive, at $499 for the system, Xbox One controller and Kinect.

But now, after several price drops from both consoles , the two consoles are much more evenly matched.;

Typically we’ll see the PS4 priced at around $299/£249 and the Xbox One S at around £149/£199.

In the most recent Black Friday sales, we seen the Xbox One S All-Digital hovering around the $100/£100 mark while the PS4 remained around $100 more expensive at $199. However, these prices are often in flux and, with the next-gen consoles releasing in late 2020, we expect to see Xbox One bundles and PS4 bundles dropping considerably over the next year.

In terms of the more powerful PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X, the Xbox One X is more expensive, with an RRP of $499 rather than the PS4 Pro’s $399.

  • Both systems come with a controller, trial offers and an HDMI cable
  • However, only the PS4 comes with a headset

At launch, Xbox One came with the console, a controller and the Kinect camera which bumped up the price while annoying many who weren’t impressed by the motion capture tech. Subsequent Xbox One bundles included Forza Horizon 3 or FIFA 17 for the same price, while newer, cheaper systems have eliminating Kinect completely while promoting the latest Xbox games such as Forza Horizon 4.

Ps4 Vs Xbox One Conclusion

PS4 is a multi-faceted console with plenty of unique features and a bustling library of worthwhile exclusives. Players looking for expansive JRPGs and niche experiences will find so much to love PS4, as well as gaining the upper hand in performance with the majority of third-party titles.

PS4 Pro has come into its own since its release, offering benefits beyond its 4K upscaling with its newly introduced Boost Mode. PlayStation VR is the cherry-on-top for PS4 owners, so long as youre willing to invest in the fancy new peripheral.

Xbox One is also a brilliant option to consider, boasting the likes of Halo, Forza and Gears of War under its blockbuster umbrella. Ever since Phil Spencer took charge of the brand weve seen the focus shift towards games, despite the cancellation of high-profile exclusives like Scalebound.

You also have Xbox Play Anywhere, a service that gives you 2 digital games for the price of one across Xbox One and Windows 10. The recent release of Xbox One S will more than certainly keep us entertained until the arrival of Project Scorpio later this year.

Ps4 Vs Xbox One: That’s A Pricey Meatball

Let’s talk about one of the biggest problems with the gaming hobby: MONEY. Dinero. Moolah. No matter what name you call it, the truth is that money is an issue. So, which is the more expensive video game console?

You can pick up a certified refurbished Xbox One for around $200 in most stores. A bare-bones PS4 will also cost around the same, if not a little less.

However, the devil is in the details. PS4 controllers tend to cost more. You get more entertainment functions with an Xbox One. Xbox One games are also marginally cheaper. So, long term, Xbox One may be a cheaper option particularly for hardcore gamers.

Winner: Xbox One

Xbox One Vs Ps: Game Library

Thanks to the nature of multi-platform games, both the PS4 and Xbox One have access to a huge array of stellar games. These range from third-party blockbusters such asRed Dead Redemption 2,Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice,Resident Evil 2 and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to beloved indies like Celeste, Stardew Valley and Dead Cells. There are also a good selection of battle royale titles like PUBG, Apex Legends, and, of course,Fortnite.;

But its with exclusive games that the difference is more pronounced. The PS4 has a much larger range, from big hits such as Uncharted 4,, Horizon: Zero Dawn, andGod of War. The PS4’s exclusive library includes some of the biggest and highest-rated AAA titles of all time, such asThe Last of Us 2 andGhost of Tsushima; they are arguably some of the best PS4 releases yet.

Despite a few lackluster releases likeDays Gone andDetroit: Become Human, the vast majority of Sony’s first-party PS4 output has been excellent. This includes recent titles like The Last of Us 2, for which Tom’s Guide has compiled ahelpful list of gameplay tips. The system also excels at local multiplayer, as you can see on our list of thebest split screen PS4 games.;

That’s not to say the Xbox One is devoid of great first party games titles such as Gears 5, Forza Horizon 4, Halo 5, Ori and the Blind Forest and Sunset Overdrive are all major standouts.;

Winner: PS4. Both systems have a lot of great games, but Sony’s system has more hit games that you can only play on a console.

Xbox One X Vs Playstation 4 Pro: Ports

XBox One vs PS4: Which Is Better?

The Xbox One and Xbox One S had plenty of ports, and the One X continues that tradition. Besides its power port, it offers three USB 3.0 , HDMI-in and out ports, IR out, S/PDIF and an Ethernet jack. As with the Xbox One S, there isn’t any direct input for Kinect. On the Xbox One S, it required an adapter, and that’s the case here as well.

The PS4 Pro has a pair of USB 3.0 ports on the front and another on the back. The back of the console is also where you’ll find the HDMI-out port, optical out port, Ethernet jack, auxiliary port and power port.

Winner: Xbox One X. While otherwise similar, the Xbox One X’s HDMI-out and HDMI-in ports let you use it to pass your cable box’s signal through your Xbox so you can watch TV on your game console.

The Technological Arms Race

Both consoles have more marketable tech than you can shake a stick of GDDR5 memory at.

Both come with Accelerated Processing Units from chip making giant AMD, which merge both the Central Processing Unit and Graphics Processing Unit together.

In terms of the CPU, both systems utilise the ‘Jaguar’ eight core chip, although these are customised. The PS4 is clocked at 1.6Ghz, while Microsoft’s flagship is clocked at a slightly higher 1.75Ghz.

What does this mean? Not a whole lot for you as a gamer. Both machines should be more than capable of handling the majority of games and applications and with speed.

Where things get slightly murkier is in the memory department.

8GB is the amount of memory both developers have opted for, but the PS4 has gone for the GDDR5 variety compared to Xbox One’s DDR3. Again, as a gamer you may not see the difference in this on every game and application, but it bodes well from a developer’s perspective and this might translate into a better experience with some games.

Some reports indicate that the Xbox One reserves a bit less memory for its operating system, leaving more for developers and games .

The GPU each system employs is different from the last generation of consoles. The PS4 has slightly more cores available at 1,152 vs 768, but is clocked at a slower 800MHz vs the Xbox One’s 853Mhz. Overall the PS4 has a peak throughput of 1.84 TFLOPs which edges out the Xbox One’s 1.23 TFLOPs.

Xbox One S Vs Ps4 Pro Films And Media

  • Xbox One S has an Ultra HD Blu-ray player.
  • Both stream 4K content, but you’ll need a fast internet connection to do so.

Films and media is another area where the two consoles are similar in some respects, but very different in others.;

Lets start with the headline difference, the Xbox One S Ultra HD Blu-ray player, which allows it to play Ultra HD Blu-rays in all their uncompressed 4K HDR glory.;

The discs arent exactly easy to come by at the moment, but when a movie or TV show is available in the format, its well worth opting for the 4K version, and as time goes on the format is slowly going to take over in much the same way as Blu-ray has taken over from DVD.;

When it comes to streaming, both consoles are on much more even footing, and are both equipped to handle Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube in all of their 4K/HDR glory.;

Both video streaming and Ultra HD Blu-rays have their drawbacks. Youll need to have a pretty meaty internet connection to get a good quality 4K stream , and 4K discs are expensive and not available for the vast majority of movies and TV shows.;

However, while they both have their drawbacks, the Xbox One S gives you the choice between them, whereas with the PS4 Pro your choice has been made for you by the lack of an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive.;

Ps4 Slim Vs Xbox One S Graphics Comparison

The PS4 Slim and Xbox One S are mid-generation hardware refreshes of the original PS4 and Xbox One consoles. These are marketed and sold as the base models of their brands. Both feature eight-core processors, AMD Jaguar GPUs, and 8 GB of RAM.

The PS4 has an advantage over its competition when it comes to resolution. Many third-party titles can run at a full 1080p at 30 or 60 fps on the Sony console, but cap out at 900p at 30 or 60 fps on the Microsoft console.

This isn’t to say the Xbox One S isn’t powerful. It can capably run whatever current-generation games you wish to play, and those games will look great. However, the PS4 graphics have a bit more crispness and detail.

Xbox One Vs Ps4 Games And Exclusives

Xbox One Vs PS4! Which Is Better In 2019?

Its no surprise that most console choices come down to which types of games and exclusives you prefer playing. If youve spent much time gaming at all, you can probably list the big exclusives for each console: The PS4 has Uncharted, The Last Guardian, Bloodborne, and generally better access to JRPGs like the Final Fantasy series .

The Xbox One has Halo, Quantum Break, Gears of War, Forza, and Mass Effect , and a focus on shooters and ;that the PS4 doesnt have. Overall, the Xbox lineup has seen significant improvement in the past couple years, while the PS4 lineup has struggled to keep up but remember that exclusives are just a small part of the picture.

Its also important to note that some games may be cross-platform but have a focus on one console over another. Destiny players, for example, have more content and updates on PS4 than on Xbox One.

If you are more interested in indie games, the scene is mixed here. PS4 focuses primarily on quantity with a large library, while Xbox focuses more on quality indie games with high ratings. Frankly, if you are buying for indie games only youd be better off getting a PC, although both consoles have made important upgrades in this area in recent years.

Xbox One Vs Ps: Bottom Line

With all the above said and done, Sonys PS4 is our overall favorite console. But only just. It pips Microsofts console to the post, thanks to its larger range of killer exclusive games, from the likes of God of War, The Last of Us 2, Uncharted 4 and Bloodborne. It also has a huge range of third-party games, a pleasingly intuative user interface, and a controller that is more innovative than the Xbox Wireless Controller, even if its perhaps not quite as good in everyday gaming use.;

But we cant push the Xbox One aside completely, as thanks to exclusives like Halo, Gears 5, and Forza Horizon 4, Microsofts gaming machine is still an excellent console, though wed recommend getting the Xbox One X if youre going to an Xbox One machine. Its also worth remembering that the Xbox One S and One X can both play 4K Blu-rays, unlike the PS4. And Xbox Game Pass offers a huge library of games to play for some $10 a month; arguably the Xbox One wins on sheer value for money.;

With the Xbox Series X and PS5 now here, pitting the Xbox One vs the PS5 might seem a little moot. But its worth remembering that both consoles offer backwards compatibility, so any games you get for them now will be playable on their newer counterparts. So in effect, you’ll be building your game library ready for a generational upgrade.;

Ps4 Pro Vs Xbox One X: Performance And Graphics

The Xbox One X is incredibly powerful on paper. It has a new custom eight-core CPU clocked at 2.3 GHz and an impressive new custom GPU clocked at 1.17 GHz. This GPU includes features from AMD’s Polaris architecture and offers up to 6 teraflops of computing power.

The Xbox One X also has 12GB of GDDR5 RAM. Microsoft says this is enough for rock-solid 4K gameplay at 60 frames per second. The Xbox One X also supports High Dynamic Range, as well as AMD’s FreeSync to prevent screen tearing.

The PS4 Pro has the same AMD processor as the original PS4, but it has been overclocked to 2.1 GHz. The eight-core GPU also includes features from AMD’s Polaris architecture and offers a formidable 4.2 teraflops of computing power. It has less RAM than the Xbox One X. Its Boost Mode has led to increased frame rates in some PS4 games, but user and press reports have stated that frame rates aren’t always consistent. Some of this variability depends on the game. For example, PS4 exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn ran capped at 30 fps, while outputting at 4K on the PS4 Pro.

Winner: Xbox One X. Simply put, its CPU and GPU are more powerful than the PS4 Pros, and Microsoft is promising 4K gameplay at 60 fps.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Games

This new console generation is unlike any other, in that for all but a tiny number of cases, you dont need to buy a new console in order to play the new games.

In fact, to the best of our knowledge, theres not a single Xbox Series X game that cant also be played on Xbox One. If theres one that weve missed somehow, its not one thats worth playing.

Its almost the same story with the PS5, but not quite. While practically every game available on the PS5 is also available on PS4, there are currently three notable exceptions in the form of the free/pre-installed Astros Playroom, the new and excellent remake of Demons Souls, and the spectacular-if-shallow Godfall.

The Xbox Series X also suffers slightly when you look at which new games are available to only one of the next-gen consoles. Of the new games released at the tail-end of 2020, none of note can be played on Xbox Series X and not on PS5. The high-profile delay of Halo Infinite has proved very costly.

Thats not to say that the PS5 is flooded with exclusives, but the three mentioned above, plus the excellent Spider-Man: Miles Morales, are easily some of the best PS5 games and give it an easy win in this regard.

Ultimately, this is a very tricky round to call. The PS5 wins in terms of exclusives both new and existing, but the Xbox Game Pass really is an amazing offering. Were calling it a draw.

Ps4 Vs Xbox One S: Graphics Comparison

Clash of the Titans : X
  • Games on the original PS4 tend to run at higher resolutions than their Xbox One S counterparts.

While the Xbox One X appears to have the edge over the PS4 Pro, it’s a different story when it comes to the Xbox One S and PS4.;

A gameplay video on YouTube of GTA 5 pans between the two next-gen versions of the game with a definitive answer. The base PS4 GPU is able to handle more foliage in environments than the base Xbox One.

Yes, you literally have to get into the weeds to see the differences, though both the PS4 and Xbox editions of GTA 5 look stellar compared to their last-gen counterparts.

In the Metal Gear Solid 5 comparison, there’s slightly more clarity to the PS4 version. Specifically, distant textures and moving objects appear softer among the otherwise identical Xbox One visuals.

It’s a trend we’re seeing from PS4 games that achieve a 1080p resolution at 30 or 60 frames per second, when their Xbox One counterparts run at 720p or 900p at 30 or 60 fps.

This is a trend that’s continuing today, with video analysis, such as the one below, indicating that Battlefield 1 runs at a consistently higher resolution on the PS4 than the Xbox One, with both consoles hitting the same variable 60 fps frame rate.;

It’s a similar story when it comes to Titanfall 2, which likewise runs at a lower resolution on the Xbox One.;

Overall, the PS4 appears to have the edge on the Xbox One, but both are left in the dust by their more powerful younger siblings.;

Xbox One Vs Ps4 Sales Figures

In March 2016, games company EA estimated that the Xbox One and the PS4 have sold a combined 60 million units worldwide. Considering that Sony had reported 36 million units a couple of months before that, it was estimated that a little over 20 million units of the Xbox One had been shipped as of March 2016.

As of January 2016, PlayStation 4 sales have reached 35.9 million units worldwide, with 5.7 million units sold in the December 2015 holiday season.

In late November 2015, the Wall Street Journal reported that Sony had sold over 30 million units of the PS4, making it the fastest-selling PlayStation product in history, considering the first two years since launch. The WSJ news story also reported analyst opinion that the PS4 is “running far ahead of Xbox One” .

As of March 1, 2015, Sony had sold 20.2 million units of the PS4. The latest available official sales figures for the Xbox One were announced in November 2014, when Microsoft announced they had sold nearly 10 million units. The holiday shopping season was strong for Microsoft so the current number is certainly much higher; however, the Xbox still trails the PS4 in worldwide sales.

Sony’s PS4 outsold the Xbox One in the U.S. in every single month from January to June 2014. In June, Microsoft announced a $399 version of the Xbox One without the Kinect and said the move led to a doubling of its monthly sales but did not release any specific numbers.
