Connecting Additional Ps4 Controllers Wirelessly

Once you have at least one controller connected to the PS4, you can add more wirelessly:

  • With your connected controller, locate the Settings option in the row of icons above the PS4 home menu, represented by an icon that looks like a briefcase.
  • Navigate to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth Devices. You should see a list of devices presently connected to your console.
  • On the PS4 controller, you wish to connect wirelessly, hold down the PS button and the button simultaneously for 5 seconds.
  • When the new controller appears in the list of Bluetooth device, select it with the other controller. The new controller will then be successfully connected to your PS4.
  • Solution : Charging Your Controller

Another reason why you might not be able to use your controller is where it is not charged enough to its full capacity. Bluetooth/wireless connection between the controller and the console require that you have a full charge. Otherwise, the power will not be enough to establish the connection or the connection will drop every once in a while.

Charge your controller to the full capacity before plugging it in or connecting it wirelessly. Also, you can try plugging the controller to another PS4 and then try connecting it to yours. This way you will be able to diagnose and be certain that the problem isnt with the controller and it is working as expected. In many cases, you can combine Solution 1 and 2 to get optimum results.

  • Use a USB cable. Your goal is probably to play wirelessly, but the first step is to make sure that your controller actually works. If it does work when connected to the PS4 with a USB cable, then the controller itself is at least nominally functional, and you can proceed.

  • Make sure the battery works. If the controller doesn’t power on, then try charging it. If it still doesn’t power on, even when plugged into the PS4, then suspect the battery. To replace a PS4 controller battery, you have to disassemble the controller.

  • Check for a loose USB connection. With a USB cable plugged into your controller, gently prod the connector. If it feels loose, or it comes out easily, then there may be a problem with the socket or the cable connector. You can take care of the latter by simply trying a new cable, while fixing the USB port in a PS4 controller requires you to disassemble the controller.

If your connection is loose, check for debris in the socket. You may be able to carefully remove the debris with canned air and a small toothpick or similar tool.
