How To Transfer Ps4 Save Files Via The Cloud

How to Transfer Data From Your PS4 to PS5

Since PlayStation Plus users have access to the Cloud Storage, there is a chance your save files were uploaded at an earlier date – just remember that this process must be manually activated, so theres a chance you may have forgotten to upload your save data. You can check which game files have save data in the cloud by going to Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in Online Storage, and then selecting the option to view which files are being stored. If you already see the files you need, you can skip the next few steps and boot up your PlayStation 5. If not, follow the steps below:

First, you can check that your PS4 system has the save data you wish to transfer to the PS5 by going to Settings > Storage > System Storage > Save Data.

Once you are certain the save data you wish to transfer is available, go to Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage, and then choose Upload to Online Storage.

Select the game you wish to upload save data from, and then individually select the save files before hitting the Upload button. Do this for as many PS4 games as you plan to play on your PS5.

Please note that just having your save data in the Cloud Storage will not automatically apply it to games you play on the PS5. You will have to manually download the save files to your storage for them to work.

Transfer Data Over Wifi

Although this is an easy method and does not require any additional device, if you are transferring hundreds of GigaBytes of data, it can take a while to transfer. Still, this is the easiest method. You need to follow the steps below to proceed with data transfer:

  • Turn on Both the consoles and connect them to the same network.
  • Go to Settings and there you go to
  • Now go to System Software.
  • Open Data Transfer and Click the Continue on the next screen.
  • Here you might need to press the Power Button on your PS4 console to confirm the transfer.
  • The speed of transfer depends upon on the distance between the consoles, so keep them close to each other. Another very effective method to get faster transfer is the one below.

Transfer Data Directly From Ps4 To Ps5

The easiest way of data transfer between consoles, especially if you are moving across multiple profiles to the new machine, is to do it wirelessly over your WiFi network. All you need to do is make sure that your PS4 console is connected to your network, and has the latest firmware update, and then start the PS5 setup, making sure to add the console to the same wireless network.

If you want to increase transfer speeds you can connect the PS4 and PS5 consoles via a single ethernet cable, or you can connect both consoles to your network using ethernet cables. This will make the process faster, especially if you have a lot of data to move across.

During the PS5 setup, you will be asked if you wish to transfer data from another console. Simply select yes and then follow the on-screen instructions, where you select exactly what data you want to transfer to your new PS5, and soon enough all your data will be on your new PS5, and crucially will not be lost from your PS4.

If you have already set up your new PS5 but now want to move downloaded games or save files to the new machine you do still have some options. If both your PS4 and PS5 are connected to the same network then you can simply head to Settings > System > System Software > Data Transfer > Continue on your PS5 to start the process.

During the process your PS5 console will restart, which signals the point where you can start to use it.

    Transferring Using Connection Method

With the same internet network, connect your PS4 and PS5 consoles. You may use LAN cables, which are available commercially, or you can connect both your PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 wirelessly through Wi-Fi.

After you finish your first setup of the PS5, the option for a full data transfer may emerge. You can then follow the steps indicated on your console.

But, if you ignored it at the time, go to Settings > System > System Software > Data Transfer to locate it again.

You’ll be asked to turn on both consoles and connect to the internet at this point.

If your existing setup is merely using Wi-Fi, it is strongly advised that you attach a LAN cable between the two consoles for higher transfer speeds.

Connect both of the consoles to the same PSN account you are using.

Then, continue with the transfer process until you’re advised to press the Power button on the PS4 for one second until you hear a beep. This will restart the PS4, and it will begin to prepare for the data transfer after it has been reset.

During this time, avoid touching any console or any LAN cables that may be connected.

After you’ve finished your preparations, you’ll be led to a screen where you may choose from any full games or apps that have been saved on your PS4. Due to the large file sizes of some games, this may save time over re-downloading them via the internet on your new PS5, but it may still take a while.

Depending on your setup, this should indicate how long your transfer could last.

Its good practice to keep some games on an external harddrive anyways to free up space on your console, so theres a decent chance you already have some of your data off the device. If so, you can just directly plug your game into the PS5 and play right off there you dont actually need to download the games onto the new console. Indeed some prefer this method, and is technically the fastest way to start playing. But not everyone has the right external drive for this, the space to transfer games, or the ability to dedicate it solely to their PS5 and will have to look at one of the options anyway. That said, its always good to keep a backup if possible.
