What Is The New Playstation Vr

Don't Miss

But Psvr Cant Be Used With New Ps5 Games

Playstation VR2 full announcement (with VR2 Sense controllers)

While backwards compatibility support for PSVR seems robust, one thing you cant do is use the headset with new PS5 games. That means cross-generation games with PSVR support on PS4 like Hitman 3 and No Mans Sky dont support PSVR on PS5. You need to run the old versions via backwards compatibility for it to work.

Whats your take on PSVR 2? Are you looking forward to the headset? Let us know in the comments below!

How Much Will Ps Vr2 Cost

The first-gen PlayStation VR starter bundle costs around £259 to buy right now in the UK, but that affordable price tag came after a handful of price drops. In fact, the full PlayStation VR kit was priced at £399/$499 at release back in 2016, and we think thats more representative of the potential cost of the second-gen PlayStation VR headset.

The PlayStation VR2 will sport a lot of new and upgraded tech to improve the overall VR experience for PlayStation gamers , but of course, the use of high-end tech could bump up the overall price.

For reference, the high-end Vive Cosmos costs £699/$699, although the more recent Oculus Quest 2 comes in much cheaper at only £299/$299.

What were trying to say is that the price will vary depending on the tech on offer, and for that, well have to wait until Sony fully reveals its next-gen VR headset.

Playstation Vr 2’s Features And Peripherals

While few details about PlayStation’s next-generation headset have been disclosed, Sony’s new design will be more ergonomic, less bulky and far easier to set up, requiring the user only to insert a single cable to connect the headset to their PS5. The new headset will feature a brand new OLED screen with a 2000 x 2040 resolution for each eye across a 110-degree field of view, and a refresh rate of 90Hz or 120Hz, depending on the game. The headset will also add 4 in-unit cameras for headset and controller tracking, similar to how the Oculus Quest 2 functions.

As for the method of control, Sony’s next-generation VR headset will use an entirely new set of controllers, the PlayStation VR2 sense, which are built from the ground up for virtual reality. Taking on an orb shape, Sony’s VR motion controllers intend to combine the best of the new DualSense controllers and the latest in PC VR tech. Sony’s VR controllers will have finger touch detection and position tracking, as well as a six-axis motion sensing system.

Additionally, DualSense’s advanced adaptive trigger and haptic feedback will be included in the controllers for increased immersion. In combination with the advancements in the new headset, PlayStation’s new VR controllers will finally allow console gamers to take advantage of full 360-degree motion tracking, further increasing immersion and guaranteeing a more seamless VR experience.

While You Wait Ps5 Supports Psvr For Backwards Compatibility

Not only is PS5 backwards compatible, but the console also supports the original PSVR, too. That means you can play original PSVR games on the headset, but youll need a special adapter to attach the PS4 Camera to your PS5. You cant use the new HD Camera for PS5 with the headset, but Sony is sending out the adapter for free and bundling it in with new units. Youll need to use all of your existing controllers for PSVR on PS5, though gamepad-supported games that dont use tracking like Resident Evil 7 can use the next DualSense controller.

We also know that PSVR developers can update their titles with PS5-specific features, perhaps improving the visuals and performance of existing games. Along with the No Mans Sky visuals upgrades, Blood & Truth has improvements as does Firewall: Zero Hour. Also bear in mind that not every PSVR game is compatible with PS5. Sony says the vast majority of PS4 games will work on PS5, but we do know Robinson: The Journey isnt compatible with the new console.

Psvr 2 Price Speculation

Sony unveils two new PlayStation VR bundles just in time for the ...

As far as the pricing goes, the original PSVR initially launched at $499 for the full set, which was a bit pricey for the average consumer at the time. It’s now down to $349, packaged with newer PlayStation VR games such as Iron Man VR. The core set, with just the headset, was $100 cheaper, but it’s increasingly hard to find one of those in the wild.

It’s unlikely that Sony is going to release a PlayStation VR headset that costs more than the system again. The Oculus Quest 2 is a relatively affordable $299, while the Oculus Rift S costs $399. Sony wants to grow its VR fortunes, and it feels like the new PlayStation VR will probably not break $499.

It’s likely that Sony will take on Oculus directly and land at the $399 price tag. Combined with the $500 price of the PS5 itself, that still brings the entire next-gen PlayStation VR platform under the price of the Valve Index, which can cost as much as $999 with accessories and trackers. We can only hope that by the time of its release, the global chip shortage will improve, and the next-gen PSVR will not be affected by scalper pricing.

How Does Tracking Work On Psvr 2

Tracking on a current PSVR is a little cumbersome. Players have to set up a camera, which follows the lights on your PS Move controllers to determine motions. Thats changing with the new unit.

Sony says that the new controllers handle tracking via a ring across the bottom of the controller. That means players can say goodbye to the big clown nose of the PS Move. Sony mentions that controller tracking happens by the new VR headset, ditching the need for an external camera, which is a huge win.

Eye-tracking is another major feature being implemented with PSVR 2. A simple look in a specific direction can create an additional input for the game character, Sony explained in a blog post.

The PSVR 2 headset itself has four internal cameras and an IR camera for eye-tracking, while the PSVR 2 Sense controllers will feature position tracking.

Psvr 2 Can Scan Your Room And Live

Passthrough cameras on the headset work like cameras on the Quest 2 and other VR headsets, showing the real world in your headset. The headset will also “mesh” your physical space, scanning walls, floors and obstacles like chairs and desks to get a clear sense of play space. It can create a boundary you can play in.

The meshing part is particularly interesting, because it’s something AR headsets and mixed-reality headsets do. It means the PSVR 2 could, theoretically, also have some mixed reality experiences like the Quest 2 is already playing with, although Sony hasn’t announced anything on that front yet.

One unique feature is a live broadcast mode, which will use the PS5’s TV-mounted camera to record yourself overlaid with footage from your live gameplay into a single stream. Mixed reality livecasting tools have been emerging for Quest 2, but no game console has ever had this feature before.

Psvr 2 Specs And Special Features

Considering the power of the PS5 alone, its pretty much a no-brainer that the PSVR 2 will have better graphics than its predecessor. All that power means little if the PSVR 2 doesnt offer big improvements to take full advantage but, thankfully, we dont have to worry about that. At CES 2022, we learned the PSVR 2 offers some impressive upgrades. Now that we know about the design changes and the improvements to the controller, lets talk a bit deeper about the PSVR 2 specs and other unique features.

What Is The Psvr 2

While players were delighted by the announcement of a virtual reality headset fully compatible with the current generation of PlayStation consoles, they were also shocked by how few details came with that original announcement. Without even an official name to attribute to PlayStations upcoming headset, opting instead to refer to it as the next-generation VR system, Nishino mostly gave vague details with no concrete facts and figures.

In a later PlayStation Blog, Nishino referred to the new system as the PlayStation VR2 which is the systems official name. Aside from the obvious fact that the new headset is designed for use with the PlayStation 5, Nishino promised improved performance and interactivity, as well as enhanced resolution, field of view, tracking, and input . In his later , he officially confirmed that the PSVR 2 will be in line with other high end consoles on the market.

Nishino conceded two pieces of official information for the improved system in his initial announcement. The first is that the new Sony VR will have wholly redesigned controllers which incorporate the unique features from PlayStation 5s DualSense controller they have been announced as PlayStation VR2 Sense Controllers. This was welcome news as the current PSVR still uses the PlayStation Move controllers that came out during the PlayStation 3s lifespan.

The Psvr 2 Will Feature Vibration Feedback Eye Tracking And 3d Audio For Better Immersion

Sony PlayStation VR Headset (PS4) 3001560 B& H Photo Video

In addition to the haptic feedback found in the controllers, the PSVR 2 headset will contain a single motor for vibration effects. Sony offered some examples of how this will work, saying that gamers will be able to feel a characters elevated pulse during tense moments, the rush of objects passing close to the characters head, or the thrust of a vehicle as the character speeds forward. Its anyones guess whether a buzzing sensation in your head will prove immersive or annoying, but hopefully, its a feature that can be turned on and off at the users will.

Sony also stated the PlayStation VR2 will use the PS5s Tempest 3D AudioTech to make the audio in a game feel more immersive as well. PlayStation states that its technology allows in-game audio to dynamically adapt to your position and head movements.

Lastly, the headset utilizes eye-tracking, which Sony says will allow players to interact more intuitively in new and lifelike ways. This could include using eye movements as a form of input. Imagine if you were in a Superman VR game, you could stare at an object directly and it could trigger a reaction like laser vision.

How Does It Compare With The Oculus Quest 2

The major difference between the two devices is that the PlayStation VR 2 still needs to be connected to the Playstation 5 whereas the Oculus Quest 2 is totally standalone. Beyond that, it all comes down to the ecosystem of games and apps that comes along with each. Developers continue to build for both platforms and we dont know just how they will compare just yet.

We dont know enough detail about pricing or some of the other specifics, but one would expect that customers who have been loyal to the PlayStation brand might stick with them as it already fits into the PlayStation ecosystem natively. However, the Oculus Quest 2 is a very impressive device that threatens Sonys market share if the device misses the mark.

Playstation Vr2 Release Date

What Games Are Coming To Psvr 2

Oculus Quest 2 vs Playstation VR – Which is BETTER?

Sony is also reportedly encouraging developers to integrate VR compatibility into their big main console releases. Big titles like Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo appear as if they were developed with VR in mind. The most credible rumor we could find is that Gran Turismo 7, which was released in March 2022, was developed with Sonys new VR in mind. As developer Polyphony Digital is owned by Sony, it seems likely this would release on PlayStations upcoming VR system.

Two further Sony owned studios, Guerilla Games and Firesprite, have been confirmed as developing a game for the console. The game will be part of Guerillas Horizon franchise – which includes Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West – is titled Horizon Call of the Mountain. While we have the title of the new game, no other details have been revealed at the time of writing.

People have also spotted some posts which show that other studios are developing unannounced projects for PSVR 2. A game designer for First Contact Entertainment, the studio which developed Firewall: Zero Hour and Solaris Offworld Combat for the original PSVR, added a line to their LinkedIn page which claimed they were working on a project for the unreleased system. As there is still a number of months before the headset will go on sale, it is likely more games will be confirmed prior to launch.
