For the last few months, Sony has consistently offered exclusive access to PS5 consoles through its official PlayStation Direct store only to those who have registered their details. In even better news, the program has since expanded beyond just the US, so now wannabe PS5 buyers in the UK, Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg can also shop at Sony’s official store.
It’s the biggest step the manufacturer has taken in order to make buying a PS5 more consistent and less chaotic for those still hunting for a console. Want to get involved? Here’s how to sign up and hopefully bag one for yourself during the next PS5 restock.
Where To Buy Ps: Avoid The Ps5 Scalpers
Unfortunately, one of the main reasons for the shortage of PS5 consoles is due to scalpers. These opportunistic people have been using bots to scan retailers for PS5 stock when it becomes available and buy as many of the consoles as they can in one go.
Once they have the highly-desirable console, they will then sell them for extortionate prices, often for thousands of dollars. Business Insider reported one reseller managed to get hold of 200 PS5 consoles and managed to sell them for more than $40,000.
While this isnt illegal, its not exactly the most morally sound thing to do. But at least its not as bad as some people whove been pretending to sell PS5 consoles on eBay by simply posting photos of the console and scamming people to bid for them when there was no PS5 on offer.
It might seem absurd to buy a PS5 for over $1,000, especially as its launch game lineup isnt particularly profound. But with the coronavirus pandemic seeing more people staying at home, some PlayStation fans are clearly desperate to get their hands on a new console to keep them entertained.
We advise you avoid buying from such resellers, fake or otherwise. At $499 the PS5 is still quite an expensive console and it currently doesn’t have a huge library of games. So if you can wait until later this year, youre likely to have a lot more PS5 games to choose from and Sony should have more consoles available.
Sony Ps5 Setbacks Began With The Pandemic
Sony didn’t announce the PlayStation 5 for months during the first half of 2020 , allegedly delaying the initial reveal several times due to the pandemic. Rumors of a February launch event gave way to a supposedly scheduled March unveiling, turned into a April reveal that never was. We didn’t even see what it looked like until June.
Manufacturing and shipping timelines were stretched, and demand has outstripped supply it’s been seven years since a major Sony console launch. So Covid-19 has a lot to do with why you can’t find PS5 in stock today. Things didn’t get off to a running start for a product everyone wanted so badly.
But it’s not the only reason.

Ps5 Is Collateral Damage Of ‘work From Home’
This is what people aren’t thinking about when they think about fun and entertaining video games consoles: changes to your work life have impacted PS5 stock.
The move from central offices to an almost universal Work From Home situation put incredible demand on computers and webcams, and therefore semiconductors and components some of the same parts used by Sony for the PlayStation 5 console. Can You Only Buy The Ps5 Online
If you were planning on waiting in line at your local game store for a PS5, there’s something you need to know. Sales have been largely online only, with launch day only seeing online stock. While some retailers, such as Gamestop, have had in-store events, your best option is to wait and see what online retailer has stock. PS5 restock is slowly making a comeback. GameStop will be holding an in-store PS5 restock on Thursday, December 23. This could be your last chance to get a next-gen PlayStation before the holidays.
Meanwhile, e-commerce giant Amazon is teasing a potential before the end of the month. The restock will be for Prime members only and could arrive this week or next. .
Additionally, Sony Direct is still accepting registrations for its invite-only PS5 restocks. Do note, registering doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be invited to their invite-only drops, but it’s a great way to get your e-mail on Sony’s radar, boosting your chances of getting a PS5 in the next few days.

The standard PS5 with its disc drive costs $499 / £449, while the PS5 Digital Edition is $399 / £359.
The standard PlayStation 5 price is on a par with the Xbox Series X, though, interestingly, the PS5 works out a little more expensive in certain countries.

The PS5 Digital Edition clocks in at $100 / £110 more than the Xbox Series S, but has a better spec list as it is essentially identical to the standard PS5, just without a 4K Blu-ray drive.
Various bundles are available, including the DualSense controller, while there’s also a charging dock, headphones, HD camera and a media remote as available accessories.

John Lewis & Partners
John Lewis & Partners last had a PS5 drop at 7am on 3 November. As usual with the retailer, it didnt last very long, but it does always seem to drop at 7am like clockwork.
The retailer only appears to get a couple of thousand consoles or less each time new stock comes in, so were not expecting anything big the next time theres a drop. When it happens, we recommend checking out via the app people have seen more success through this method.

GameStop currently only offers either the PS5 or PS5 Digital Edition as part of a bundle and these change all the time. Our advice? Check in regularly for updates on when the next set of PS5 bundles will be available to buy and what you can find in each one.

Where To Buy A Ps5 In Australia: Keep Checking These Stores For Playstation 5 Stock

PS5 is upon us, although most stores have extremely limited stock, so act fast at these retailers.
It’s now December 2021, and despite the PS5 being “available” in Australia for over 12 months, it’s still virtually impossible to find. Given our proximity to Christmas, there’s every chance the major retailers will dole out some drops between now and 2022, but competition to secure them will be fierce, and if you want them before Christmas you may not have luck.
Still, while stock allocations are rare they do happen, so you’ll need to stay vigilant, as stock is likely to remain low into early 2022. When stock does appear, it tends not to last long, though we have our fingers crossed there will be a bit of a megadrop in the lead up to Christmas.
So yeah, PS5 stock replenishment is a fairly scattershot affair in Australia. Some retailers have been known to provide a few days advance notice, such as what Big W did in February , but more often than not they just appear. If there’s a local bricks-and-mortar store near you, it might be worth joining their waiting list, if they have one.
But the sad reality is that you’ll probably need to check the PS5 pages on each retailer’s site manually if you want a console right now: all relevant retailers are listed below. We’ll also update the top of this page occasionally when we get advance warning of a drop.

There’s such a strong demand for graphics cards that we can’t find the Nvidia 3080 in stock for more than a few seconds at a time once a week. AMD GPUs are going through the same crisis. Good luck finding something like the AMD 6800 XT in stock.

The Next Big Ps5 Restock Is Coming To Walmart Today: Here’s How To Get One
If you haven’t scored a PS5 yet, odds are it’s because you haven’t spent enough time paying attention to Walmart. PS5 restocks happen frequently at Walmart, and they are great about announcing the drops ahead of time. That said, your latest opportunity is set to happen today, June 2nd. Walmart has revealed that the next PS5 restock will be available to buy right here starting at 12pm PST / 3pm EST for Walmart+ members only.
Keep in mind that most of Walmart’s recent PS5 restocks have been available only to Walmart+ members, so you might want to take advantage of that 30-day free trial right here in preparation for the big launch. It’s a bit of a pain if you don’t plan to be a member long term, but the good news is that you’ll have less competition for the console. The PS5 restock comes as part of the annual PlayStation Days of Play sales event and an early access deals event that runs June 2nd 5th for Walmart+ members, which you can check out via the link below.
