Shadow Of The Colossus

Xbox One or Playstation 4: Which is Better?

Shadow of the Colossus is a game that I’ve played a lot over the years. It’s out of the ordinary and it has an ominous tone throughout the game. You aren’t given much of an objective, except to defeat the colossus beasts that roam the land.

Each colossus that you face features unique challenges and ways to defeat them, giving you a sense of pride upon defeating each boss. The game isn’t incredibly long, but it is definitely worth playing if you like Legend of Zelda like gameplay and huge bosses that you can climb around on.

There are others as well, including some indie titles, but these are popular games for both systems. As you can see, PlayStation has done a great job at maintaining a relatively diverse selection of thriving exclusives, some of which have been around for generations and have been some of the cornerstones of PlayStation’s success.

Microsoft, by comparison, does not have a ton to offer aside from the Halo series, although Halo is a great series of games and almost makes an Xbox worth the cost just for the franchise. Ultimately though, Sony wins out here by fostering loyal relationships with developers and maintaining great games, along with the cross-platform classics like the Elder Scrolls series, Call of Duty, Minecraft and more.

Which Is Better: Xbox One Or Playstation 4

This simple guide will help you pick the perfect console.

If youre in the market for a new gaming system and just joining this console generation, you might be a little lost. At this point, there have been three main models of the PlayStation 4, and four of the Xbox One. Knowing which version of the console to get is almost as hard as picking which brand you want to go with. Thats where we come in. Here, we break down the differences between the PS4 and Xbox One, and help you decide which model of each console is best for you.

How To Choose A Refurbished Video Game Console

A large part of what makes somebody choose one console over another depends on what console their friends are using. No matter how inclined you may be to get a refurbished PS4, if your best friend owns an Xbox, chances are that youll also get one because youll want to play with them. Same rules apply vice-versa, obviously. This may not be what you expected to hear, but this is how the video game community works.

But thats not how it works for everyone, some people choose a console depending on what exclusive titles the platform has. Halo, Gears of War, and Forza are titles exclusive to the Xbox platform that have been around since the first generation of the console .

PS4 has its own exclusive titles such as Bloodborne, God of War, Days Gone, and Persona 5, and depending if youre already invested into any of these storylines, the refurbished PS4 may be a more appealing choice to you.

But to be perfectly honest, most people dont buy consoles to play these exclusive titles. Most people play games that are available across multiple platforms. If youre buying a console for your kids, find out what games theyre into, and make sure theyre available for the console that youre thinking about buying.

Xbox One Vs Ps: Value

The Xbox One S starts at $299 , putting it on par with the $299 PS4 Slim. However, it’s worth noting that both consoles go on sale all the time, and you can often find them both for as low as $200 . The One S doubles as a 4K Blu-ray player, so you’re arguably getting the most tech for your money with that machine.

If you’re on an extra-tight budget, you can opt for the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition , which has no disc drive and includes Forza Horizon 3, Minecraft and Sea of Thieves. However, the standard Xbox One S drops to that price frequently, so you’re probably better off waiting for a sale and getting the 4K Blu-ray drive for cheap — especially if you don’t want to rely entirely on digital downloads.

Microsoft has recently brought back the Xbox All Access program. This lets you lease an Xbox One S, Xbox One X or Xbox One S All-Digital Edition starting at $19.99 a month for 24 month. According to Microsoft, this program saves you more than $100 compared to purchasing the console and bundled games separately. All Access members can upgrade to the upcoming Xbox Series X console starting late 2020, though there’s no word yet on how much the upgrade will cost.

If you want 4K gaming, Sony’s PS4 Pro costs $399 , while the Xbox One X runs a hefty $499 . That’s a pretty big price gap, though Microsoft’s console offers a richer 4K gaming experience. .

Winner: Xbox One. The $249 Xbox One S is the cheapest console out there and doubles as a 4K Blu-ray player.

PlayStation 4 vs. Xbox One: Which is better? RO: In the Know

Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network mostly go toe-to-toe with one another in terms of pricing and features subscriptions to both cost $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year, and subscriptions give you access to some free games and discounts every month. However, Xbox Live pulls ahead in one regard: reliability.

In a recent study by ISH Markit, Xbox Live’s stability surpassed that of PlayStation Network. In addition, Live has faster logins and longer periods of lag-free play. This report supports the common belief that Xbox Live is more reliable.

Pro Ps: Playstation Gives You More Granular Control Over Data

Its baffling that this is something worth celebrating on a gaming console. Believe it or not, but only Sony lets users get a clear picture of what is taking up space on their hard drives. Obviously, both machines give you some sense of how much space you have available, but only PlayStation surfaces that data in a clear list of applications. Thats a hugely practical feature! If you need to clear out space for a brand new game, its way easier to delete one massive install than a batch of smaller ones. On Xbox One you need to click each game and individually check how much space they are using its a chore. Its not a sexy feature, its a meat and potatoes one something you would expect to have.

Xbox One S Vs Ps: Multimedia

Both the Xbox One and PS4 slim support premium streaming services including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Now TV, plus a range of catch-up TV services, but only the Xbox One S has a 4K Blu-ray drive.

In terms of power, both are more than capable of playing cinema-quality 4K movie files and both also work as full DLNA receivers to stream files across your local network.

Winner Xbox One S

The Xbox One S and PS4 Slim are both highly competent multimedia hubs, but the Xbox One just edges it thanks to its 4K Blu-ray support.

Ps4 Vs Xbox One: Which Is Right For You

The Xbox One versus PS4 battle rages on in 2021, as the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 remain out of stock at most retailers. These last-generation consoles wont deliver the best gaming performance possible, but thanks to a large library of exclusive games and backward compatibility, theyre still a solid option. Plus, they both double as Blu-ray players and streaming devices.

The eighth console generation saw stiff competition from Microsoft and Sony. The Xbox One started the generation from behind, with Microsoft undoing a series of consumer-unfriendly decisions to make its platform more accessible. The PS4, on the other hand, launched to near-universal acclaim and maintained a lead over Microsoft for the majority of the generation. As the eighth generation closes, however, its clear Microsoft made up at least a little bit of ground.

From performance to exclusives to online services, heres how the PS4 and Xbox One stack up.

PS4 Pro vs XBox One S: Which One is Better?

ByAndrew E. Freedmanpublished 13 August 20

The Xbox One X has more power than the PlayStation 4 Pro, but Sony fights back with an incredible game lineup and a lower price.

With the release of the Xbox One X in 2017, Microsoft raised the bar on console performance. But it faced stiff competition from Sony’s PS4 Pro, which beat the Xbox to market with a 2016 release. Both focus on 4K gaming and streaming, but there are plenty of differences. In our Xbox One X vs PS4 Pro showdown, we put the two consoles through 10 rounds of combat to help you figure out which one you should get.

Although both consoles are now in their twilight years, with the Xbox Series X and PS5 looming over the horizon, there’s still reason to look at buying these consoles today. They’re actually available to purchase for one, and with many game devs promising your new purchases on this generation will carry over to the next, buying one of these will still give you an up-to-date gaming experience for a few years yet.

Ps4 Vs Xbox One: The Specs

While you may not really care about the specs of your consoles, there are some big differences between the Xbox One and the PS4 that you’ll need to know about. For example, unlike the PS4, the Xbox One does not support upgrading the internal memory inside the console the external hard drive however is fair game. This might be a deal breaker to some, but not quite for others.

Again, to make things much more simpler to process, we’ve created a table for you to see the differences between all four consoles for yourself.

Things The Xbox One Does Better Than Playstation 4

Ever since the launch of the Xbox One console, Microsoft has struggled to keep up with the PlayStation 4’s first-party exclusive success. Whereas Sony’s console sees several exclusives annually that launch to critical acclaim, the Xbox One suffers from extended periods of time between releases. In addition, the exclusives that do release often get average reception .

Xbox head Phil Spencer has pledged to build “high-quality” exclusive games. However, this will take time. Despite this, there are several reasons to choose Xbox over PlayStation if you’re looking to purchase a console.

Is One Refurbished Console Better Than The Other

The truth is, that neither of these consoles really outclasses the other, at least not in terms of specs. It was a very different story back in the days of the Xbox 360 vs. the PS3, where the PlayStation offered free online play whereas the Xbox had a better overall online ecosystem . If you were a gamer back then, you may also remember that the PS3 was able to play Blu-ray Discs, while the Xbox 360 wasnt. Both the PS4 and Xbox One can play Blu-ray movies, in case you were wondering.

But the truth is that now the Xbox and PlayStation are very evenly matched, and this is a good thing, because there was never any need for a dispute among which console was better. It was from the beginning, and still is now, a matter of preference.

Xbox One S Vs Ps: Specifications

TabShowdown: PlayStation 4 vs Xbox One: Which Is Better?

We’ve known for a while that the PS4 has a significant horsepower advantage over the Xbox One. It has 50% more GPU compute units, allowing for greater parallel processing power that can either be used for onscreen fidelity, or for in-game effects such as real-time physics.

It also has a simpler memory system, with a single 8GB lump of fast GDDR5 memory, compared to Xbox One’s slower DDR3 memory and 32MB high-speed cache. Simple is always good when it comes to console architecture. Developers have in the past criticised Microsoft’s design and the fact that some multi-platform games are forced to run at a lower internal resolution than on Sony’s hardware.

Microsoft has tried to catch up by bumping the CPU and GPU speeds slightly. According to developers, the American tech giant dedicated a small but significant amount of resources to quick-switching between apps a much-needed upgrade which has helped to close the gap.

The Xbox One S has certainly suffered in hardware comparisons. Many cross-platform games run at a resolution of 1,600 x 900 on the Xbox One S, but at a slightly sharper 1,920 x 1,080 on the PS4. The difference isn’t huge, and occasionally it’s offset by slightly more consistent frame rates on the Xbox One, but overall the PS4 consistently has the edge when it comes to head-to-head showdowns.

Pro Xbox One: The Xbox One Is A Bastion Of Apps

For Microsoft, this is the big picture. The company wants your Xbox to be a beacon for you to connect with a whole world of content through the Xbox not just games. Theres no doubt Sony would love to be the same thing, but Sony doesnt have an entire ecosystem of products and services theyre filtering through the PlayStation. Windows 10, on the other hand, comes with an Xbox application pre-installed. In Microsofts vision, Xbox should be your home away from your computer, a way to connect to your PC when youre not in front of it. That means apps of all shapes and sizes, made by small developers and big ones alike. Already there are Xbox apps for Reddit, radio, torrenting, etc. Thats on top of basics like YouTube and Netflix.

Playstation 4 Vs Xbox One: Which One Is Better

As the current console generation reaches a point of maturation, both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have developed significantly. There is no doubt that the Sony system gained a significant head start over the Xbox One in the early days of the two consoles. But with both units having been available for a couple of years, which one provides the most compelling system for gamers?

Pro Ps: You Can Stream Playstation Games On A Mac

Theres no arguing it: MacBooks are still a hugely popular laptop. For obvious reasons, Microsoft hasnt made a huge effort to support Xbox gamers on the Mac, which is kind of a bummer. Xbox head Phil Spencer did say that an Xbox app could come to OS X, but its about development priorities. Take that as you will. On the flip side, if you cant play PlayStation 4 games in front of the tv, you can stream them to either a Mac or PC without much hassle. Sonys Remote Play feature is an impressive one for slower games that dont require a whole lot of precision. You wont be completing Destiny raids or Dark Souls bosses, but it does give us more ways to stay connected to the games we love.

The Most Important Factor When Buying A Refurbished Console

Xbox One VS Playstation 4: Which is better (for me)?

As we said before, most games are available on both of these consoles. I know we didnt really mention any technical specs yet in this article, but to be truthfully honest, we really dont need to. Ever since the beginning, purists have bickered about specs, but to be truthfully honest the two are so similar that theres no point comparing them, because even if there was a winner, it would be by a very thin margin.

The real reason that makes a person choose one console over another is preference. Some people think that Xbox is cooler, while others think that PlayStation is cooler. Neither party is right or wrong, and to be completely honest, theyre both great choices. So check them both out, maybe get a feel for their controllers, and just get whichever one feels right. And whichever one you end up buying, rest assured that youve made the right choice.

Why Resolution Doesn’t Matter

The Xbox One is multiple times more powerful than its predecessor, the Xbox 360. Just because the game resolution isn’t higher doesn’t mean the graphics aren’t better. The Xbox One can have more characters, particles, and special effects on-screen due to improved hardware. It has better artificial intelligence, better lighting, better physics, and better-looking textures. Plus, it can render all of this while maintaining a consistent frame rate. Games look and perform better on the Xbox One than on the older generation. While games on the Microsoft console may not look as good as their PS4 counterparts, they still look great.

Consider this about resolution. The Nintendo NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, and Wii consoles ran at 480i resolution . Still, the graphics changed from one generation to the next despite the resolution being the same.

Also, many Xbox 360 games weren’t even 720p, yet the games still looked very good. Your favorite Xbox 360 games, and many PS3 games, were probably 540p, 600p, or some other sub-HD resolution upscaled to 720p or 1080p on your TV.

While the PS4 is more powerful, it doesn’t always achieve the mythical 1080p and 60 fps target.

Which Console Has The Better Games

This is an entirely subjective question, but the consensus from critics tends to favor the PS4. Sonys console has fan-favorite games like:

  • Bloodborne

  • Until Dawn

  • Yakuza series

Xbox, on the other hand, has had a lackluster exclusive lineup this generation. Halo only received one title for the Xbox One, and besides Gears of War and Forza, there arent many unique titles for Microsofts console to get excited for.
