How Long Should You Let A Ps4 Controller Charge
An average PS4 controller battery takes roughly 2 hours to charge completely. The charging process only takes this long if you dont have any charge in your battery.
If you are playing games while the controller is being charged, it may take 2.5 hours for a full charge since the console is also using power to help run. The process might take a longer to charge sometimes.
It occurs most often due to its short lifespan. If the PS4 Controller battery is not fully charged after three hours, it should be replaced. As a result, you should keep the PS4 controller charging until it is completely charged.
Ease Out The Bottom Half
The bottom half of the controller chassis has cross members that occupy the gaps between the top and bottom index triggers on either sides. These cross members can dislocate or otherwise damage the bottom analog index triggers while separating the chassis.
You can avoid this by simultaneously depressing both analog triggers to widen the gap between them and the top index triggers. This should provide enough wiggle room to gently slide the bottom half off without the cross members snagging against the analog triggers.
Xbox Series X Controller Uses Aa Batteries Because User Preference Is Split Even
Unlike PlayStation controllers, the next-gen Xbox still uses AA batteries.
The new Xbox Series X controller, like its predecessors, will use AA batteries instead of a rechargeable battery that is found in PlayStation’s DualShock controllers.
Xbox partner director Jason Ronald told Eurogamer that the Xbox audience is split nearly evenly when it comes their preference between AA batteries versus a built-in rechargeable battery. Sticking with AA batteries for Xbox Series X is an effort to please both camps, as people can still buy a rechargeable battery pack for the controller, Microsoft said.

“What it comes down to is when actually talking to gamers, it’s kind of polarizing and there is a strong camp that really want AAs,” Ronald said. “So just giving flexibility is the way to please both people… You can use a rechargeable battery pack and it works just like it does on the Elite, it is a separate thing.”
“And so just by slightly shrinking some areas of the controller, we found that we can actually reach a lot more people and at the same time make it more comfortable for everyone,” he said.
Microsoft didn’t change the controller design radically for the Xbox Series X because people generally like it and are used to it. “They’ve got a lot of muscle memory in there,” Whitaker said.

Automatically Turn Off Your Ps4 Controllers
One of the biggest reasons the battery drains so quickly is that the PS4 controller doesnt turn off while the consoles running. Heres how to change that:
On your PS4 go to Settings > Power Saving Settings > Turn Off DualShock 4 Automatically this is automatically set to off, which means that your PS4 controller stays on until the battery dies. Instead set it to 10 minutes to save as much battery life as possible. Other options are to turn off after 30 or 60 minutes. This does mean youll have to power it back on when you sit back down, but its a small price to pay.
Stay Charged And Carry On
So what’s the solution? The most obvious fix, it seems, is for Sony to change the low-level battery alerts to be more reflective of when the controller is about to run out of charge. And if you want to squeeze out some more battery life from the DualSense controller overall, you can always turn down the intensity of the haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and the controller’s light bar.
To make life easier, I’d also recommend picking up the PS5 DualSense Charging Station Dock, which lets you switch pads at a moment’s notice if you have a spare to hand. It’s also a much more attractive solution than having a USB cable trailing from the front of your console.
Though the DualSense controller’s battery will inevitably degrade slowly over time as all built-in lithium-ion batteries do it seems that my initial fears may have been overblown. At least, for now.

Minimize Speaker Volume And Vibration
Turn off vibration on your DualShock 4 controller to reduce the volume of its speakers along with any noise from your audio system. Some games use the speaker for audio cues and other diegetic effects.
The controller in Destiny 2 alerts you more quickly than the game audio, for instance, by regularly making noise while you are in combat. I find the speaker to be quite loud, even though it is fun to listen to sometimes.
To access volume control, select Devices from the quick menu just as you adjusted the light bar. You can reduce the volume at this point and youll enjoy much quieter operations.
Go under the PlayStation 4 settings, select devices, then controllers. The controller feedback can then be disabled from there. Using this option, you can turn off all vibrations.
In this way, you may prolong the lifespan of your controller battery if your controller is having trouble holding a charge. Most games use some vibration as a gameplay cue, so some people might hesitate to turn it off.
Change Your Controllers Shutoff Time
Occasionally, we all use our PlayStation 4 for something other than gaming. When youre watching movies on Netflix or a stream on Twitch, you dont necessarily need to keep your DualShock 4 powered on the whole time. To preserve the controllers battery life, make sure the controller is set to shut off as quickly as possible when it is isnt in use.
To adjust the time delay before your DualShock 4 automatically shuts off, go to the PlayStation 4s Settings menu and select Power Save Settings. From there, youll see options for automatically turning off the console itself as well as rest mode, and underneath that is what youre looking for: Set Time Until Controllers Turn Off. Change this to the lowest setting, 10 minutes, to minimize the drain on your battery when you take breaks, and during passive activities.
You can also find these settings on the systems quick menu, brought up by holding the PlayStation button in the center of your controller, so you can easily adjust the delay without having to exit your current game or application.

Playstation Move Motion Controller
Q: Why is the sphere on the PlayStation Move motion controller colored? What does the color of the PlayStation Move motion controllers sphere mean?A: The sphere atop the PlayStation Move motion controller helps the PlayStation Eye camera to precisely detect the absolute position of the controller in real-life 3D space. Some games may change the color of the sphere according to gameplay, giving you visual feedback. The game can change the sphere to any color .
There is no default color, and the color of the sphere may change after calibration since the system will choose colors that will track well in the current environment. When the sphere is flashing different colors, it means the controller is calibrating. Note that the sphere will not be lit when controlling the XMB .
Q: Do you need to stand when using PlayStation Move? Do you need to sit?A: No, you do not need to stand. As long as the camera has a clear, direct view of you and the PlayStation Move motion controller, you can play while standing, sitting, slouching, reclining, etc.
Q: How many PlayStation Move motion controllers do I need?A: Most PlayStation Move games only require one motion controller. However, some games may support two controllers for single-player gameplay or for multiplayer mode.
Q: Does the PlayStation Move motion controller include vibration feedback?A: Yes. The PlayStation Move motion controller includes vibration feedback in the body of the controller.
Xbox Series X Controller Longer Shelf Life
All of this came as a response to a statement made by Duracell UKs Marketing Manager, Luke Anderson, who argued that the main reason for Xbox to ship controllers with batteries and not a built-in battery like its competition was its deal with Duracell. “The deal is for OEM to supply the battery product for the Xbox consoles and also the controllers’ battery. Its a constant agreement that Duracell and Microsoft have in place. It needs to go for a while more” said Anderson in his interview with Stealth Optional.
Andersons theory, as absurd as it sounds, does make some sense because a deal between Microsoft and Duracell does in fact exist, which involves Duracell often tweeting about using its batteries in the Xbox Controllers. In 2020, Duracell also announced a promotion that allowed users of their extra powered battery, Duracell Optimum, to try the Xbox Game Pass for two weeks. The specifics of this deal are still unclear, but Microsoft has consistently denied that they ship controllers with AA batteries because of this deal, but do so to provide a choice to the consumer, which sounds reasonable enough.

Ps5 Controller Dualsense Uses Usb
This differs from the Xbox Series X controller, which still uses AA batteries for some reason.
Sony has revealed its next-gen controller, the DualSense. While the name and design is a bit of a departure from previous years, one thing remains the same between the PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4 and the PlayStation 5‘s DualSense: rechargeable batteries.
The company confirmed on the PlayStation Blog that the PS5’s DualSense will, in fact, use rechargeable batteries just as prior DualShock controllers did. Sony said that it “took thoughtful consideration into ways to maintain a strong battery life for DualSenses rechargeable battery.” It’s difficult to tell in the gallery below, but it also looks like the new controller may charge via USB-C and might not feature an audio jack as it includes a built-in mic.

This is a stark difference from Microsoft’s next-gen console, the Xbox Series X. While the console features a bunch of new tech and the controller has been slightly redesigned, the company is still putting AA batteries inside of its newer controllers. Xbox partner director Jason Ronald said this decision was because “there is a strong camp that really want AAs” and the team wanted to give players the option.

Lower The Controller Light Bar
The DualShock 4 has an innovative feature in the form of a light bar. Some games use this feature to change colors, and PlayStation cameras detect controllers to register players and play PlayStation VR.
The quick menu allows you to dim the light considerably, although turning off the light is impossible entirely. You can set the brightness of the DualShock 4 Light Bar to bright, medium, or dim by selecting the brightness option.
Lights are usually bright by default. They can be dimmed, though. There is no reason for the camera not to recognize the dim light, so you can save some power and keep your controller going for longer.

How Can You Make Your Ps5 Controller Battery Last Longer
There is a way to prolong your PS5 controllers battery life. To do this, we will be using the PS5 controller and the PlayStation console. This is what you need to do:
1. Turn on your PlayStation console.
2. Use your controller to go to the gear icon in the upper-right corner.
3. In the Settings menu, go down until you find Accessories.
4. Use the down button on your controller to go to Controllers on the left sidebar.
5. Select Vibration Intensity and choose Off in the pop-up menu.
6. Proceed to Trigger Effect Intensity and turn it off.
7. For Brightness of Controller Indicators, select the Dim option.
Following these steps will prolong your controllers battery life to up to two hours. This method is especially useful when your battery power is low, and you dont want to stop playing a particular game.
For Your Playstation Or Pc Gaming Needs
Sony’s DualShock 4 is a really good controller that can double as your full-time PC gamepad as well. If you have an aging DS4, you may have noticed that it does not hold a charge as long as it once did. When it gets to that point, many choose to buy a new one. While the DualShock is not the most expensive gamepad on the market, it’s not exactly cheap either at $60 a piece.
Unless your DS4 has other things wrong with it, it doesn’t make much sense to buy a new one when changing the battery is a cheap and easy fix. Recently, I found that both of my controllers were not holding a charge for very long and couldn’t justify the expense of replacing them both.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to save over 70% by replacing your DualShock battery yourself.

Is The Dualshock 4 Battery Intended To Be Replaced
No. Unlike Microsoft’s Xbox controllers, the DualShock 4 has an internal battery that you are not meant to replace. Instead, Sony’s alternative to constantly swapping out batteries is to just charge up your controller on your console via a micro-USB cable.
This doesn’t mean that it can’t be replaced at all, though. So long as you buy the right battery and know what you are doing, you can take your controller apart and replace it. This will void the warranty so you can’t send it back to Sony if you encounter any issues, but it’s the do it yourself option for those who want it.
Make Sure Your Ps5 Controller Is Fully Charged
There are several ways to check your PS5 controllers battery life. Whether you choose the quick way with the controller or use your PC, knowing how much battery life is left can save you from frustrating situations. After youve fully charged your PS5 controller, you can go back to playing video games without worry.

What Do I Do If My Controller Doesn’t Hold A Charge
If your PS4 controller isn’t charging, it may not be the battery. Try using a different micro-USB cable and using a can of compressed air to clean the charging port first. It’s possible either the cable may not work anymore or there is dust in the charging port that is preventing it from charging properly.
What You Will Need
The only tools you will need for this repair are a Phillips #00 screwdriver and a nonabrasive prying tool. You may already have a screwdriver, but if not, you can pick one up for around $3 on Amazon. A nylon spudger will work for prying. The cheapest we found was one from iFixit for about $2.
You will also need a 3.7V battery. You will need one of two types, depending on your DualShock4’s model number. While the battery type is the same, the connectors are different, so make sure you get the right one. For controller model number CUH-ZCT1E or CUH-ZCT1U, you need the large connector type. Units listed as CUH-ZCT2 or CUH-ZCT2U have the smaller plug. The model number is printed on the sticker on the back of the controller .
Generally, you can find generic batteries for around $15. Stock DS4 batteries are 1000mAh. Most of the generics on the market are of higher capacities, which is fine. I happened to score a 2000mAh two-pack on sale for a pair of early model controllers for $13 from The Perfect Part .

Genshin Impact Still Refuses To Increase Anniversary Rewards Despite Fan Outcry
I have said a lot of controversial things on Twitter and yet this might be the most responses I got to a tweetever? Who knew battery preference was so controversial?
What I learned is that people have ton of opinions about battery charging and disposables versus reusables versus internal batteries and so on. Among the various things I heard:
Many people will have more than one controller, even on next-gen systems where there are frequently fewer and fewer couch co-op games, in order to be able to swap out one controller for another when the first one dies. The other one charges and they keep swapping.
PS5 Charging Cradle
Others wondered why I didnt just get a controller charging station, as you can just put the PS5 controller in a cradle and let it charge there overnight or whenever youre not using it. Of course both of the above options cost money for extra hardware.
Some agreed with me that they did like having batteries in their controller, but they were using rechargeable AA batteries that they could swap out instead of throwing them away.
Others still were indeed like me, and have giant piles of batteries sitting around somewhere for all their devices that still use them that they got from Costco or something, so swapping out disposable batteries is not really a big deal and its not all that expensive in the end. Though perhaps over the long term, that may add up. Annnnd its probably not the best for the environment.
Making The Most Of Your Right To Repair
While consumer electronics brands love making battery replacement progressively more difficult with each new product release, the onus lies on you as a consumer to fight back.
More often than not, a simple screwdriver and a can-do attitude is all you need to do just that.
