Which Is Better Ps4 Or Xbox One

Don't Miss

The First Major ‘cyberpunk 2077’ Expansion Won’t Come To Ps4 Or Xbox One

Xbox One vs PS4: Who Won This Generation?

Night City is going to get bigger next year with Phantom Liberty, an expansion adding new characters and a fresh location to Cyberpunk 2077. It’s a spy thriller starring V, the game’s protagonist, and Johnny Silverhand, the ghostly character played by Keanu Reeves, and it involves espionage work for the New United States of America. However, Phantom Liberty is only heading to Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5, PC and Stadia, skipping Xbox One and PS4 altogether.

CD Projekt RED’s decision to drop last-gen console support isn’t surprising, considering the difficulties developers had delivering a functional game on those platforms. Cyberpunk has received plenty of patches since its release in December 2020, with most of the focus on fixing major issues with the game’s performance it was incredibly buggy and unplayable in some cases at launch, and it particularly struggled on older-gen hardware. Phantom Liberty is a narrative and world update featuring new content, locations and characters, and it marks a significant step forward in the game’s post-launch development cycle, even though it leaves Xbox One and PS4 players in the dust.

“Due to some technical challenges, this change isn’t available on the previous generation of consoles,” the update blog reads. To get around these challenges in future patches, CDPR is halting work on previous-gen consoles: Patch 1.6 will be the last for Xbox One and PS4.

Ps4 Vs Xbox One: The Controllers

When youre comparing controllers between the PS4 and Xbox One, you should consider size, comfort, and battery life but, even beyond these aspects, personal preference is going to go a long way.

The good news is that both conform to your hands better versus the less ergonomic Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

Microsoft, even further from just improving on the Xbox 360 controller for the Xbox Ones basic controller, released the Xbox Elite Wireless controller back in 2015. This gamepad, directed towards pro gamers, includes four back pedals, two settings for the left and right shoulder buttons, swappable analog sticks and a new and improved D-pad. All of these amazing features come at a premium though, costing $149 or £119.

There’s also a newer version of the pro gamepad available with the Xbox Elite Wireless Series 2 controller, which improves greatly on its predecessor but will cost you £159 or $179.

Sony’s DualShock 4 also improves on the previous generation. The handles of the PS4 controller are a lot easier to grip and are more comfortable when playing for extended periods. Plus, the analog sticks now have a nice divot, making precise movements a lot easier.

With the newer DualShock 4 that’s come out alongside the slimline PS4, the controller has seen a further improvement with the addition of a wired connectivity mode, which eliminates the input lag associated with Bluetooth connections.

Ps4 Pro Vs Xbox One S: Console Performance

The difference in performance between PS4 Pro and Xbox One S is pretty major, with the former having significantly higher specs while the latter represents a relatively modest upgrade over its predecessor.

Xbox One S is essentially the same machine as the 2013 launch model in terms of internal specs. There are minor differences when it comes to performance, although youre unlikely to notice any discernible changes.

PS4 Pro has received minor CPU improvements that have allowed for better performance in some kinds. Project Cars, for example, sees a 38 percent increase in performance with the PS4 Pro Boost Mode enabled. Unfortunately, visual quality remains unchanged.

Weve compiled all of the specs below:

PS4 Pro
Bluetooth 4.0 Bluetooth 4.0

The PS4 Pro is a different beast when compared to the Xbox One S. Its internal components are a big improvement over the original model, as you can see in the above spec list. The newly implemented Boost Mode also allows players to gain extra benefits such as higher framerates across significantly more games, even those lacking a PS4 Pro-specific patch.

Xbox One S Vs Ps: Specifications

We’ve known for a while that the PS4 has a significant horsepower advantage over the Xbox One. It has 50% more GPU compute units, allowing for greater parallel processing power that can either be used for onscreen fidelity, or for in-game effects such as real-time physics.

It also has a simpler memory system, with a single 8GB lump of fast GDDR5 memory, compared to Xbox One’s slower DDR3 memory and 32MB high-speed cache. Simple is always good when it comes to console architecture. Developers have in the past criticised Microsoft’s design and the fact that some multi-platform games are forced to run at a lower internal resolution than on Sony’s hardware.

Microsoft has tried to catch up by bumping the CPU and GPU speeds slightly. According to developers, the American tech giant dedicated a small but significant amount of resources to quick-switching between apps a much-needed upgrade which has helped to close the gap.

The Xbox One S has certainly suffered in hardware comparisons. Many cross-platform games run at a resolution of 1,600 x 900 on the Xbox One S, but at a slightly sharper 1,920 x 1,080 on the PS4. The difference isn’t huge, and occasionally it’s offset by slightly more consistent frame rates on the Xbox One, but overall the PS4 consistently has the edge when it comes to head-to-head showdowns.

Xbox One X Vs Ps4 Pro: Specs And Graphics

PS4 vs Xbox One: Which Console is better?
  • Xbox One X has much more impressive specs
  • Whether or not the Xbox One X’s full potential is used is down to individual developers
  • Both consoles are capable of native 4K ouput
  • Both consoles will upscale 1080p games
  • Both consoles will supersample to benefit Full HD TV owners

4K capable

The headline feature of both of these consoles is that they’re both capable of outputting 4K content either natively or through a process known as upscaling.

Though the PS4 Pro is capable of playing games in native 4K, at the moment the library of games which do so is fairly small. While youll be able to enjoy games like Skyrim in native 4K, the majority of Pro supported titles achieve their 4K resolutions by upscaling.

While an excellent solution to improving 1080p outputs, upscaling is still inferior to native 4K content. That said, the PS4 Pro has a couple of tricks up its sleeve.

Each game handles its upscaling slightly differently, but a general theme so far on the PS4 Pro has been that games will render at a resolution thats between Full HD and 4K and then use a more advanced upscaling method called checkerboard rendering to fill its 4K pixels.

When talking about checkerboard rendering things can get complicated very quickly, but the important takeaway from this is that the images the PS4 Pro is capable of displaying look very close in quality to native 4K content by using this method.

Games And Compatibility: Sony’s Exclusives Are Better While Xbox One Is Better Value

  • Xbox Game Pass offers hundreds of games per month for set fee.

  • Exclusives like the Halo series, Gears of War and Forza Motorsport.

  • Better backwards compatibility.

Neither the Xbox One nor PlayStation 4 is short on games. There are plenty of options out there no matter what your preference. Overall, if you love racing games and shooters then the Xbox One wins thanks to great titles like the Gears of War series, Halo franchise, and the Forza Motorsport and Horizon games. However, if you prefer more adventuring then the PlayStation 4 is a good option with the likes of The Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima, and the Uncharted series of games.

The Xbox One has a substantial advantage in the form of the Xbox Game Pass. It works like Netflix allowing you to pay a set fee each month in exchange for access to hundreds of games. These include first-party hits like the games mentioned above, along with indie gems too that you may not have heard of before. Typically though, the PlayStation 4 has more highly regarded games.

Do The Ps4 And Xbox One Support Vr

If youre looking to break into the world of VR with your console, theres only one choice: PS4. PlayStation VR is the only headset currently compatible with a console, and its only supported by the PS4.

Unfortunately, theres no way to use a VR headset with the Xbox, so that kind of takes them out of the competition by default. PSVR is one of the cheapest ways to get into virtual reality, and if thats your main interest this console generation, then go for the PS4.

Ps4 Pro: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

PS4 Vs Xbox One: Which is Better? (Graphics Comparison)

Despite the ending and the controversy surrounding its development cycle Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is one of the best stealth games on the market. Together with the games prologue Ground Zeroes, it stood out as one the most technically accomplished third-party titles available.

This was further improved with a patch in 2017 boosting the games resolution to 1440p on PS4 Pro. In addition, the framerate is more stable and locks to 60fps for the majority of gameplay providing a smoother experience. Unfortunately, theres no word an X1X patch yet and the game remains at 900p on Microsofts console.

Xbox Vs Ps: Which Should You Buy In 2022

PS4 versus Xbox One S is a fight that’s lasted longer than it should have, especially as the answer to this question is dependent on who you are and what you value the most in your consoles. Do you like exclusive games? Hard-hitting technology? The ability to play your old games? The best specifications that money can buy? There are so many variables that looking into them all would take all day.

Xbox One’s Tv Features

Xbox has an entire feature that PS4 doesn’t. With the extra inputs on the back of your Xbox One, you can actually watch TV through your Xbox. Instead of plugging your cable box into your TV, you plug it into your Xbox. With the OneGuide app, your Xbox will walk you through setting up your TV so you can watch it without even changing inputs.

It works with both normal cable/satellite services or antennas for free over-the-air TV. Your Xbox can pause live TV for up to 30 minutes so you can take a break if needed. Plus, you can set up your Kinect to control your TV’s volume. The OneGuide app provides a slick TV guide interface so you know what’s on, and you can even watch TV alongside a game.

Some people mocked this feature upon release, and Microsoft isn’t exactly giving it much attention. Still, it’s pretty neat, and gives the Xbox One another advantage over the PS4.

Winner: Xbox One

The Xbox gains a point here for the TV integration feature. Doing more with fewer devices is always great.

Xbox Game Pass Vs Playstation Plus

Xbox One vs PS4 (Playstation)

Xbox Live Gold on the Xbox One will set you back $9.99 a month, but it grants you online multiplayer access as well as some free games to download each month and game discounts. But we suggest a subscription to Xbox Game Pass for the same monthly price. It provides access to more than 100 of the best Xbox One games and other games for older and newer consoles, as well as online multiplayer access.

Opt to shell out for $14.99 and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate gives you access to Xbox and PC games, as well as cloud streaming and save syncing between all three platforms. Game Pass is basically a must have for Xbox fans and is one of the best bargains in gaming.

Comparatively, PlayStation Plus members get two free games per PlayStation console for $10 a month, as well as game save cloud storage Xbox One gets this for free. Discounts on on some of the best PS4 games can be had with PlayStation Plus memberships.

Winner: Xbox Game Pass. Xbox Game Pass is such a bargain that it’s hard for Sony to compete against it. And with new games set to launch day one on Game Pass, it’s now an essential service for Xbox players.

Ps4 Vs Xbox One: Exclusives

I know. We are only just now getting to the meat of the issue: the games. But were a tech website, so you had to expect us to geek out over the specs before anything else.

To date, there are over 1,800 titles on PS4 with over 500 console-exclusive games while the Xbox One has around 1,600 games with only around 250 console-exclusive. It is in this regard that it is worth noting that Microsoft has faced some scrutiny about the number of exclusives theyve had over this console generation.

Moreover, as you can see below, many of their most popular exclusive titles are also cross-published onto PC . So if you already have a gaming PC, Halo is one of the few franchises youll be missing out on.

At that point you might as well invest in a budget gaming PC such as a $300 or $400 gaming PC and then buy a PS4 or Switch since Sony and Nintendo seem to actually care about making exclusive games.

Here are some of PS4s best exclusive games:

  • Uncharted 4
  • Forza Horizon 3

Nintendo Switch Gaming Console

Award:BEST FOR KIDS

WHY WE LIKE IT: Between the Switchs ability to transform into a handheld console, and the great selection of Nintendo titles from Mario to Pokemon, the Switch makes it in the top half our list providing an experience like no other console.

  • Doesnt offer the best graphics
  • Included controller might be uncomfortable

When we mention Nintendo, you likely arent thinking of the latest first-person-shooters, you are thinking of Mario, Luigi, Peach, and friends. One of the things that makes Nintendo consoles, such as the Switch, great is the ability to play family-friendly titles that are fantastic for kids and adults alike. The Switch even makes family gaming more accessible, as the console can be docked for television use, or taken about and used as a portable great for when someone is using the TV, but you still want to play your video games. If you only want a portable console, you can even opt for the more affordable Switch Lite that does away with a TV mode.

Xbox One Vs Ps4 Price

Price has seen one of the largest changes in the last two years, with Microsoft working hard to update the Xbox One and make it more affordable. They dropped the Kinect, scaled back the price, and offered more bundles. As a result, the primary Xbox One and PS4 models can be found in bundles for $350 give or take $50 depending on the bundle in question. Both Xbox Live Gold and PS Plus cost a similar fee to purchase, too. Generally, cheaper Xbox bundles are easier to find, but the price race is essentially a tie these days.

Both consoles also have more expensive options with improved hardware and more storage, Xbox with the Elite and PS4 with a couple different model numbers. If you want upgrades, there are options both ways, including 500GB and 1TB storage choices notably, Xbox offers a hybrid SSD drive for its advanced model, but thats the main difference. All things have become largely equal here as well. If youre an old school gamer, take a look at our Dingoo a320 retro game emulator review for only $99.99.
