Bethesda has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls Online will be getting a standalone PS5 release, with a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade confirmed for the title.
The news was announced by Gematsu and more news about the games PS5 release is set to arrive later this month. Exact enhancements for the PS5 and expected release dates are also expected to be announced in the next few weeks. Alongside that news, Bethesda announced that it would be bringing more titles to PS5 and that those titles will offer free upgrades for PS4 owners to the next generation.
We recently reviewed the latest expansion for The Elder Scrolls Online stating Though The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor represents a good jumping in point for lapsed players and newcomers alike, it sticks a little too rigidly to its shopworn design tendencies to really excel, while elsewhere, a smattering of bugs threaten to take the sheen off what is otherwise a highly entertaining expansion to one of the better MMORPGs on the market. Will Eso Ever Be Crossplay
No, Elder Scrolls Online is not a cross-platform between PC and Xbox One. This means that you will need separate accounts for each, and players on PC cannot play with those playing on Xbox One.
Will Elder Scrolls 6 be on PlayStation? The next Elder Scrolls will be an Xbox exclusive. The Elder Scrolls VI is one of Bethesda Game Studios most anticipated titles. Unfortunately, it wont be coming to the PlayStation platform. Xbox boss Phil Spencer confirmed the Xbox and PC exclusivity of the next Elder Scrolls game in an interview with GQ on Monday.

Bethesda Announces Elder Scrolls Online Console Enhanced Edition Release Date
ESO Console Enhanced makes 60fps the standard framerate even in performance mode and nearly doubles draw distances.
It also improves reflections and adds dynamic lighting, lets consoles render every texture in high resolutions so that they look even better on larger screens, and smooths out depth of field even further, especially during NPC interactions.

When Can You Not Upgrade To Eso Console Enhanced Edition For Free
Unfortunately, there are a few exceptions to the free ESO upgrade. Lets go over them:
- You own a physical copy of the Elder Scrolls Online, but a digital-only version of the PS5. Unfortunately, you still need to use the disc, so a hardcopy ESO game cant be upgraded to a digital ESO Console Enhanced edition.
- You own a copy of Elder Scrolls Online on Xbox One but want to upgrade to Console Enhanced for the PS5, or you own ESO for PS4 but want to upgrade to Console Enhanced for Xbox Series X or S. Neither is possible as the free ESO upgrade only works between consoles of the same console family.

I wasnt a huge fan of the PS4 version of Elder Scrolls Online when I finally got a chance to play with it after a few years of playing ESO on a PC, where Ive always been able to enjoy decent frame rates and vast draw distances while tweaking my graphical settings down to the last nitpicky detail. In relation to that experience, the whole PS4 port felt clunky both on my PS4 Pro and on my PS5 – no matter which visual settings I was using, in fact, I noticed very little difference between the two. The graphics didnt look too detailed or visually rich, and the frame rates consistently lagged. Overall, PlayStations attempt at Elder Scrolls Online felt second rate to the grand Elder Scrolls Online experience that Id been spoiled with on PC.
Now, let me say that its wonderful that Zenimax is still even supporting The Elder Scrolls Online for the current PlayStation consoles, given that The Elder Scrolls is now very clearly on its way to becoming a solid property of Xbox under Microsofts new ownership. Luckily, the PS5s next-gen update gives proper justice to ESO. In fact, given that Ive been a PC player for so long, there should be some weight to my words when I say that I wish I could transfer my characters and progress and switch – entirely – to the PlayStation 5 version of ESO. It just works.

While there was much handwringing from fans and the media at first, we now know that the former third-party publishers projects will no longer release on PlayStation. There are obvious exceptions: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition launched on the PlayStation 5 last week, and Sony still has a contract with Ghostwire Tokyo that will be honoured. Beyond these very specific situations, though, its game over.

Elder Scrolls Online Ps5 Xbox Series X
The Elder Scrolls Online will hit 60 fps on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on June 8.
A Console Enhanced version of The Elder Scrolls Online will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on June 8. This port will take advantage of the systems’ more-powerful CPUs and GPUs.
This means that the Console Enhanced version improves The Elder Scrolls Online on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in a multitude of the familiar ways. This includes things like increasing the frame rate to 60fps, almost doubling the draw distances, unlocking high-resolution textures, updating antialiasing, and reducing load times.
Publisher Bethesda Softworks posted a video showcasing the graphical changes ESO players can expect when they jump in on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S this June.
ESO players can already access the game on the systems through backwards compatibility. This Console Enhanced port, however, is the definitive release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Players who already own the game don’t have to make another purchase the Console Enhanced version is free for all.
This Console Enhanced port of The Elder Scrolls Online coincides with the launch of Update 30 and the Blackwood chapter, which takes players back to Oblivion. The first piece of the year-long content update, Flames of Ambition, is now live on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
Eso Does Not Support Cross
So, is ESO cross-platform? Well, yes and no. But mostly no.
The Elder Scrolls Online does not support cross-platform play in the traditional sense. PC players won’t be able to engage with PS4 or Xbox players, and Xbox players won’t ever see PC players. However, when the new generation of consoles was released in 2020, things became a bit more complex. Here’s how it all works:
- PC players have their own servers and won’t encounter players on any console.
- Xbox players have a server shared between Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
- PlayStation players have a server shared between PS4 and PS5.
- Stadia players share a server with the PC community.
In summary, this means that while Elder Scrolls Online cross-platform gaming isn’t really a thing, but you can play across different generations of the same console. Since so many console enthusiasts have yet to make the jump to the newest generation, we suspect many games like ESO will maintain cross-generation features for the foreseeable future.

The Elder Scrolls Online saw the launch of native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions a couple of months ago, but soon, developer Zenimax Online Studio will be further improving the games visual fidelity on the new consoles, thanks to new features being added in with the upcoming Update 31.
The most significant addition will be dynamic resolution scaling, with the developers wanting to ensure that the game can run at higher resolutions even when targeting 60 FPS in performance mode. As such, on PS5 and Xbox Series X, in performance mode, The Elder Scrolls Online will soon be scaling between 1080p and 2160p, depending on performance metrics. On Xbox Series S, the game will scale between 1080p and 1440p. The developer says this should also help prevent dropped frames.
Meanwhile, a new HDR mode is also being added in, described as a new hue-preserving mode that very closely matches the look of ESO in SDR while taking advantage of the increased range. The current HDR mode will still remain in the game as an option for those who want to stick with it though.
The Elder Scrolls Onlines PC, Mac, and Stadia versions will be getting Update 31 on August 23, and the console versions on August 31.
