There are three big reasons why you’re still struggling to get a PS5. The first is the most obvious: The system is really popular. Sony says the PS5 is its best-selling console and has already sold 10 million units since launch. The second reason is the current chip shortage impacting most of the world’s electronics.
Dualsense Edge Price Revealed
We nailed the DualSense Edge price analysis when Sony first announced its gamepad at GamesCom 2022 in August. Sure enough, the DualSenge price is $199.99, which is more than twice the price of other PS5 DualSense controller colors. But its not too far off the launch price of Microsofts Xbox Elite Series 2 Wireless Controller at $179.99 and cheaper than the PS5 SCUF controller which costs $249.99.
Our next DualSensge Edge price analysis: the $199.99 price may drop by the end of 2023, in case youre looking for a deal. The Xbox Elite S2 price dropped at retailers over the last few months, to the point that its on sale for $149.99 now, so look out for Sony PS5 deals a year from now like during Black Friday if you can hold out.

It also mentioned that the controller will be sold through its Sony Direct store on January 26, 2023, and other retailers in the US on February 23, 2023. This usually means Walmart, Amazon, Best Buy, Target, GameStop and Antonline.

Spotted Ps5 Compatible Label Indicates Limited Backwards Compatibility
The vigilant Redditor also spotted a “PS5 compatible” label in PlayStation Direct’s page source code, which validates Sony’s messaging about the next-gen console’s limited backwards compatibility. That is, only some PS4 games will be compatible with the PS5.
“With that being said, the label may be intended for accessories, like controllers and headsets rather than PS4 games, so I might be reading too much into it,” kgarvey said.

Prices are also going up in Europe, Japan, China, Mexico and Canada, but the US price remains unchanged.

The original PlayStation and PS2 launched at £299 in 1994 and 2000 respectively. Open Registration For Pre
Sony sent out emails to PlayStation fans, advising they could register for the possibility of being one of the first to pre-order the system through the company directly. Users could register on the companys site by submitting their PSN ID. The site made mention of limited quantities of PS5 systems and advises fans to act fast if an invitation is received.
The companys FAQ page further broke down the number of quantities customers were able to pre-order through the site, allowing only one system per PSN ID, two DualSense controllers, and two Pulse 3D wireless headsets, among other accessories. The other important factor is that this is for customers in the U.S. only, as the FAQ reads any orders that contain a non-U.S. based address will be canceled.
Despite the seemingly organized system, many retailers put the console up for pre-order before Sony could email fans itself, leaving many frustrated. While open registration through Sony is currently closed now, fans have since reported that Sony has sent out another wave of pre-order emails through the list. If you signed up for the program, make sure to keep an eye on your email inbox from now through November.

While this isnt illegal, its not exactly the most morally sound thing to do. But at least its not as bad as some people whove been pretending to sell PS5 consoles on eBay by simply posting photos of the console and scamming people to bid for them when there was no PS5 on offer.
It might seem absurd to buy a PS5 for over $1,000, especially as its launch game lineup isnt particularly profound. But with the coronavirus pandemic seeing more people staying at home, some PlayStation fans are clearly desperate to get their hands on a new console to keep them entertained.
We advise you avoid buying from such resellers, fake or otherwise. At $499 the PS5 is still quite an expensive console and it currently doesn’t have a huge library of games. So if you can wait until later this year, youre likely to have a lot more PS5 games to choose from and Sony should have more consoles available.
