Finally, the major game consoles are getting updates with the Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One releases are right around the corner. There will be plenty of awesome game titles for both the PS4 and the Xbox One, but even if you’re not big into gaming, these systems might have something to appeal to you. After all, the PlayStation 3 was one of the first widely popular Blu-ray disc players, and the Xbox 360 was one of the first home entertainment devices to offer Netflix’s streaming video services. Ps4 Vs Xbox One Controllers

After three generations, Sony redesigned its DualShock controller.

In some respects little has changed. The angular design and placement of the buttons remain.

Improvements have been made to the thumb-sticks’ dead-zone and there’s the two-point clickable touchpad, underneath which is a small speaker.

On the back is an integrated light bar, which is used to identify and locate the player.

The ‘Start’ button is now ‘Options’ and the ‘Share’ button has replaced ‘Select’. Pressing the Share button allows video and screenshots to be sent to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, as well as broadcasting live streams to Twitch.

The DualShock 4 has concaved shaped triggers and the pad’s grip has been made, well, grippier. Sixaxis motion control is present and there’s support for both Bluetooth and wired headsets.

The pad comes with ion-lithium rechargeable batteries, which Sony says lasts for 7-8 hours. Once depleted, it will fully recharge in two hours.

The PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro come with a slightly tweaked controller . The lightbar can be seen through the touchpad and the lightbar itself is smaller.

There’s also a slight reduction in Bluetooth lag thanks to the DS4 now being capable of transmitting data over USB cable. Speaking of which

The controller comes with a short cable, so if you want to play as the pad is charging, you’ll need to buy a longer one.

There are two different versions of the Xbox pad available the Elite and the Controller S above).

Ps4 Pro Vs Xbox One X Games And Content

Xbox One backwards compatibility is on One X. The service currently has more than 300 titles, which is nothing to sniff at.

There will be no One X-exclusive titles with the exception of experiences that support certain virtual reality peripherals support for which still remains unconfirmed.

Like UHD Blu-rays? Xbox One X will support em, along with Dolby Atmos. PS4 Pro only supports HD Blu-rays and theres no Dolby Atmos support. But both consoles will support the HDR 10 standard on both.

Xbox One S Vs Ps4 Pro: Which Is Better

PS4 vs Xbox One

The console battle continues with the PS4 Pro and Xbox One S

PS4 Pro or Xbox One S: a question that’s gripped us since both consoles came to market in 2016.

Both mid-cycle upgrades on the original Sony PS4 and Xbox One consoles, they heralded a more pragmatic approach to console development one where Microsoft and Sony offered players more powerful hardware, 4K Ultra HD picture quality, and improved features without having to jump ship to a whole new system.

Today, if you’re in the market for a high-powered games console capable of the most advanced graphics, you’re looking at either the PS4 Pro, which is a pretty powerful upgrade over the original PS4, or the Xbox One S, which adds an Ultra HD Blu-ray player and 4K upscaling to the original Xbox One.

The slightly newer Xbox One X is an even more advanced UHD powerhouse, though we’ve run through the key differences between the current Xbox consoles in a separate guide below. Or if you’re not overly concerned with having the highest power and the latest graphics, we’d throw the Nintendo Switch into the mix for your consideration and direct you to our comparison hub for that.

For now, though, we’re looking at the two upgraded consoles that first hit our shelves in 2016: the PS4 Pro and Xbox One S.

Ps4 Pro Vs Xbox One S Boost Mode Vs Ultra Hd Blu

Features-wise, the two are very similar, but theres one key differentiator that gives the Xbox One S a massive boost, and thats its Ultra HD Blu-ray player. Incredibly, despite owning the UHD Blu-ray standard, Sony has chosen not to include the technology in its flagship console.

4K streaming is supported on YouTube and Netflix for both consoles, with more services on the way.

When it first launched the PS4 Pro was only capable of improving visuals and performance on titles officially patched by developers. However, this all changed with the arrival of Boost Mode, a new feature introduced in the PS4s 4.50 firmware update.

When activated from the settings menu, this feature will improve performance of all PS4 titles, regardless if theyve been patched or not. Of course, the results are mixed.

Ps4 Vs Xbox One: The Specs

While you may not really care about the specs of your consoles, there are some big differences between the Xbox One and the PS4 that you’ll need to know about. For example, unlike the PS4, the Xbox One does not support upgrading the internal memory inside the console the external hard drive however is fair game. This might be a deal breaker to some, but not quite for others.

Again, to make things much more simpler to process, we’ve created a table for you to see the differences between all four consoles for yourself.

The time to buy an Xbox One or PlayStation 4 is now. Both consoles are competitively priced and there’s finally a solid collection of excellent games to play on either system.

Holiday pricing has either console at around $300, but odds are you can get one any time for no more than $350 with a bundled game or two.

So which console is right for you? That’s not an easy question to answer and a lot of it will depend on your personal preference. That said, here’s a bunch of details you should know that will ensure you’ll be able to make an educated decision when the time is right .

Xbox One X Vs Ps4 Pro: Hardware

Xbox One Vs PS4! Which is the Best Console?

For a console that packs power, the Xbox One X is nice and compact, at 11.8 x 9.4 x 2.3 inches. However, its a weighty 8.4 pounds. Microsoft calls it the smallest Xbox ever, but it’s only the slimmest the existing Xbox One S is 11.6 x 9.1 x 2.5 inches, so it’s smaller in other dimensions. The new Xbox comes only in matte black , and it looks pretty bland. It’s just two stacked, rectangular boxes. It’s not ugly by any means, but it’s not any sort of radical new approach to Xbox, either.

The PlayStation 4 Pro is larger all around, at 15.6 x 11.6 x 2.6 inches, but lighter, at 7 pounds. Its a stack of three pieces of black plastic , which is modern and visually appealing but on the bulky side.

Winner: Xbox One X. It may not be much of a redesign, and it’s quite heavy. But you can’t argue with fitting a bunch of power into a compact space.

Sony Ps4 Slim Full Review

Were a few years into the life of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 the PS4 surged ahead on sales to begin with, but the Xbox One has seen a turnaround more recently.

No other console generation has seen two rivals so similar in terms of hardware, specifications, software and services, making it surprisingly hard to choose between them. We’re going to try to explain everything you need to know in order to make the right choice.

If you’re toying with a console beyond the big two, you might be better off checking out our guide to the best games console, which includes the high-end PS4 Pro and Xbox One X alongside the Nintendo Switch, 3DS, and Nvidia Shield too.

The PS4 is generally seen as the hardcore gamers choice. Its hardware is slightly more powerful than the Xbox One, and Sony was smarter in focussing the PS4s software and interface on games rather than some vision of the console as an entertainment hub.

That was Microsofts mistake at launch, where the Xbox One seemed too focused on TV, movies and voice-controlled entertainment, and not enough on playing games. Where Sony pushed to make its console more affordable, Microsoft saddled it with a pricey motion control peripheral that nobody really wanted the second-generation Kinect.

Ps4 Vs Xbox One S: Graphics Comparison

Xbox One vs PS4!

While the Xbox One X appears to have the edge over the PS4 Pro, it’s a different story when it comes to the Xbox One S and PS4.

A gameplay video on YouTube of GTA 5 pans between the two next-gen versions of the game with a definitive answer. The base PS4 GPU is able to handle more foliage in environments than the base Xbox One.

Yes, you literally have to get into the weeds to see the differences, though both the PS4 and Xbox editions of GTA 5 look stellar compared to their last-gen counterparts.

In the Metal Gear Solid 5 comparison, there’s slightly more clarity to the PS4 version. Specifically, distant textures and moving objects appear softer among the otherwise identical Xbox One visuals.

It’s a trend we’re seeing from PS4 games that achieve a 1080p resolution at 30 or 60 frames per second, when their Xbox One counterparts run at 720p or 900p at 30 or 60 fps.

This is a trend that’s continuing today, with video analysis, such as the one below, indicating that Battlefield 1 runs at a consistently higher resolution on the PS4 than the Xbox One, with both consoles hitting the same variable 60 fps frame rate.

It’s a similar story when it comes to Titanfall 2, which likewise runs at a lower resolution on the Xbox One.

Overall, the PS4 appears to have the edge on the Xbox One, but both are left in the dust by their more powerful younger siblings.

Xbox Vs Ps: Which Controllers Are Better For Pc Gaming

Amongst the array of PC controllers, Xbox One’s and PlayStation 4’s controllers are the best on the market for both casual and serious players.

With most modern day gaming PC, users are no longer restricted to solely using a mouse and a keyboard when they play. In fact, the majority of current and next-gen consoles feature controllers that can be easily hooked up to any PC. While there are plenty of PC specific controllers out on the market, the Xbox One‘s and PlayStation 4‘s controllers are the biggest competitors when it comes to PC compatibility. Both accessories bring unique features to PC gaming that keyboards alone cannot deliver so which of them is actually worth the price tag?

Controller preference comes down to the games that users play, the style and feel of the controller, and how well it can incorporate with a given PC. In the physical aspect, it is difficult to determine which controller is best. However, looking at the Xbox One and PS4 controllers through a technical lens reveals the advantages and disadvantages of both accessories.

Xbox One S Vs Ps: Price

Before you read any further, it’s worth noting that the PS4 and Xbox One S are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Microsoft has officially discontinued the Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, which means retailers won’t have much stock left to sell it also means that what stock is available is a little more expensive than normal.

Ordinarily, the Xbox One S and PS4 sit at £250 and £260 respectively, and it is still very much possible to find both for those prices if you hunt around. These consoles are available in both 500GB and 1TB variants, with the 1TB PS4 usually costing around £50 more although again, with stock slowly decreasing you’re likely to find all manner of inconsistencies.

If you want to buy a second-hand PS4 or Xbox One S, there’s more consistency, at least in terms of stock. Resellers like CeX list the PS4 and Xbox One S at around the £250 mark, abiding by that £50 increase for the 1TB PS4 as well.

Winner Draw

At this point in their lifecycles, the PS4 and Xbox One S have gone through so many price changes it’s impossible to choose a winner. The bottom line, though, is that both consoles can be had for well under the price of a new PS5 or Xbox Series X and although they are less powerful, they still run more or less the same games. For now.

Ps4 Vs Xbox One: Performance

The PS4 Slim slightly edges the Xbox One S in terms of performance, featuring a GPU that is roughly 0.4 TFLOPs larger. This doesnt represent a large leap in power, with 1080p video games looking largely similar to one another regardless of the platform youre playing them on its only the most minimal power boost PS4 Slim has over the Xbox One. This is to be expected, considering that the Xbox One S and PS4 Slim are both the entry-level SKUs of their respective platform.

With regards to the amount of memory these machines are packing, both have 8GB of RAM. The noticeable difference comes in how the PS4 Slim features more advanced GDDR5 RAM, while the Xbox One has a somewhat less impressive DDR5. The PS4s hard drive can also be removed, unlike the Xbox One, meaning that anyone looking to mod their console should punt for PlayStation 4.

Winner: PS4
