Sony Will Offer Free Ps5 Upgrades For All Horizon: Forbidden West Owners After All

On Thursday, Sony announced a convoluted and unpopular system for PlayStation 4 owners of the upcoming Horizon: Forbidden West to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version of the game. Sony was only going to permit this if you bought the $80 digital deluxe edition or the even more expensive collectors editions. If you bought the $60 base PS4 version, you wouldnt be able to upgrade.
In an update to the PlayStation Blog post today, Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan walked this back, instead promising a free upgrade path for everyone. He also noted that future cross-gen first-party PlayStation exclusives, including God of War: Ragnarok and Gran Turismo 7, will offer $10 digital upgrade options. He wrote:
It sounds like Sony had initially only planned to offer free cross-gen upgrades for launch titles, which it likely defined as games released during the consoles first year. Sony must have initially figured that deal didnt count for Horizon anymore after delaying it to 2022.
This, predictably, upset many PlayStation owners. Microsoft has offered easy cross-gen support through its smart delivery system, and Sony was looking comparatively greedy with its initial plans for Horizon: Forbidden West.
How To Upgrade Ff7 Remake To Ps5 Intergrade
If you already own Final Fantasy VII Remake on the PS4, you can upgrade to Intergrade for free on the PS5, with a few caveats.
- If you own a physical copy of FF7 Remake for the PS4 but a digital edition of the PS5, you will not be able to get the free upgrade. You will have to purchase Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade for $69.99
- If you own FF7 Remake on the PS4 via PS Plus, but never purchased it outright, you will be ineligible for the free upgrade.

Miles Morales PS5 version has a special Performance Mode that disables effects like ray tracing, and uses upscaled 4K to increase framerate. This mode allowed me to zip through the city at 60 frames per second, while still enjoying stunning visuals. It was something I couldnt do on my previous-generation consoles. It was difficult to return to Miles Morales PS4 version, which frequently chugged below 30 frames per second.

According to the developers at CD Projekt RED, there will be more than one upgrade steps to a next gen version of the game – and the first upgrade will happen at launch on December 10th.
Cyberpunk 2077 will come with a day one patch that offers several next-gen improvements to the PS4 version when played on the PlayStation 5 system. The exact details haven’t been shared, but are likely to include improved load times, frame rate, and visuals.
The patch will be automatically updated and downloaded when you play Cyberpunk 2077 for the first time.
However, this is only an early upgrade, meaning the game should perform similarly to other PS4 games that have been boosted via Backwards Compatibility.
