Optional Workaround: Upgrade To A Larger Ssd/hdd For Ps4

How to Play Disc-Based Games | PS4 FAQs

If the 3 methods mentioned above still cant free up enough space for your PS4, you might as well consider adding a larger SSD/HDD to the console to replace the old 500GB original hard drive.

Before the installation of the new bigger hard drive into the PS4 to take place of the old full one, you need to transfer all data from the old disk to the new one since its a time-consuming job to install all your games and applications again from scratch. But whats the easiest way to transfer all data from the old drive to the new one? When it comes to this point, I recommend AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard, free and powerful disk manager software, to help clone a disk to another to achieve data transfer within only a few steps.

In this software, 2 kinds of clone methods are provided Clone Disk Quickly and Sector by Sector Clone. The former clones only used space and allows to adjust the size of partitions. The latter clones all sectors to another disk whether used or not.

Tip: Apart from disk clone, this freeware is also able to convert your USB flash drive from NTFS to FAT32 to make it compatible with PS4.

What to do when PS4 cant download games and updates? Dont worry, just try this powerful disk manager software to clone the old hard drive to a new one and install the new drive into your PS4 to replace the old one!

    Roblox For Ps4 Disc

The easiest way to increase the storage of your PS4, whether it be the original model, 2016 refresh or a PS4 Pro, is to add a USB 3.0 hard drive to your setup.

Any USB 3.0 drive will do the job and the PS4 supports drives up to 8TB in size.

We chose a dedicated PS4 edition of the Seagate Game Drive with 4TB of space. It’s great value at under £100 and is designed to match the PS4 perfectly.

Another great alternative is a WD_Black P10 Game Drive, which is specifically designed for gamers and costs only a little more for up to 5TB.

Whichever you choose, to get it work with your PS4, just plug it into any of the three USB 3.0 ports. We chose one of the rear ports to tuck it out of the way.

You then need to head to the Settings menu in order to format the drive to work as external storage. Head to Devices, then USB Storage Devices. You should see your new drive listed on the next screen.

The PS4 will automatically set your external drive to be the default to install games on.

If you want to use your internal drive instead, go back into the Settings menu, head to Storage and press Options. You will have the option to choose between the internal and external drive as the game installation location.

Why Isnt My Ps4 Recognizing My Disc

PS4 disc games dont seem to be recognized by the PS4 when they are inserted into the console. This can be caused by a few different things, but the most common cause is that the game isnt installed correctly.

There are a couple of ways to install games from discs on your PS4. You can either install the game using the PS4s built-in file manager or you can use a third-party installation tool.

The easiest way to install a game from a disc is to use the PS4s built-in file manager. Just open up the file manager and navigate to where you saved the game. Then just select Install and follow the on-screen instructions.

If you want to install a game from a disc using a third-party installation tool, there are a few different options available. One popular option is PCGamingWikis PS4 Game Installer. This tool allows you to install games from discs on your PC and then transfer them over to your PS4.

Skip Downloading Game Data Again: Switching From Disc To Digital

Playstation will not allow you to keep the game data files as you switch from a disc version to a digital version, so there is no way to save the bandwidth when you make the switch.

Players are advised about the bandwidth requirements when switching from a disc version to a digital version, as modern games require lots of data to be downloaded.

Disc Vs Digital: Which Is Worth It

    CD Wall

Disc and digital PS4 games are identical in all aspects but convenience and pricing.

Neither is superior in terms of graphics, performance , or resolution. The reason of this is simple every PS4 game needs to be installed on the hard drive. This includes physical PS4 games.

I tend to go physical when I can due to the ability to play indefinitely. More specifically, I want to know that Ill be able to play my games even if Sony decides to stop supporting PS4 game downloads years down the line. Yes, most physical games will be absent of major patches without the internet, but its better than nothing at all.

Disc rot is also a thing, but Ive never run into this issue myself.

Physical games also tend to fall in price over time while digital titles often rely on PlayStation sales for savings. PS4 discs can also be resold or traded in to lower the cost of future game purchases. At this time, youre not able to sell digital licenses on the PS4 .

How to install games from a hard drive to ps4

Now, years later, games like can easily top 100GB. That doesn’t leave too much space on your default drive for many other games.

Even if you have the enhanced version of the PS4 or the PS4 Pro, each with 1TB drives, they will struggle.

Luckily, there are two options for increasing the storage space on your PS4 or PS4 Pro. One is blindingly simple, the other slightly more complicated. They both work very effectively though and aren’t too costly.

    Reinstalling The System Software

As the console now has a brand new drive with none of the system software installed, you’ll need to reinstall it manually. You’ll definitely need an external USB drive on at least 1GB in capacity for this part of the set-up, even if you stored all of your saved games in the cloud.

Create a folder called “PS4” on the drive using a computer, then a folder inside that called “UPDATE”. You then need to download the latest system software file from Sony and be wary of following some links on the PlayStation site as they can send you to earlier versions that won’t work .

The latest system software is version 8.03 which we found here at playstation.net. It will be around 1GB to download but is the complete software, not just an update. If the file is much smaller it’s the wrong one and won’t work.

Move the downloaded file to the UPDATE folder on the drive and you’re ready to install it on the console.

Reattach all of the leads into the rear of the PS4, plug your USB drive into the front and attach a DualShock 4 controller via its own USB cable. Then press the on switch on the front of the machine for seven seconds or longer. This will boot up the console into Safe Mode and give you some options. Choose “Initialise PS4 ” and the PS4 will find the update and install it. It only takes around five minutes in total and then your PS4 will reboot and start up as if it has just been unboxed and set up for the very first time.
