What Does A Ps4 Look Like

THIS is what a Jailbroken PS4 Pro Looks Like

Supersampling mode takes your games highest resolution and uses that extra visual information in certain games to deliver smoother curves, sharper edges and more refined details when downscaling to an HD TV.

The Ps4’s Expected Game Lifetime

The PlayStation 3 was released in 2006 and discontinued in 2016 in North America. It received cross-generation titles until the end of its life. For example, 2015’s Call of Duty: Black Ops III was the last Call of Duty title released for the system, though it was a watered-down version with no campaign mode.

This was similar for PlayStation-exclusive games. MLB The Show 16 was the final PS3 version of the yearly series published by Sony. Prior to this, 2014’s LittleBigPlanet 3 was the last major Sony-published title on the system.

The PS4 arrived in 2013, when the PS3 was seven years old. Since the PS5 launched in 2020, this puts the PS4 on the same timeline as the last generationâthough the existence of the PS4 Pro complicates this a bit.

Horizon Forbidden West was released on both PS5 and PS4 in February 2022 . In contrast, 2021’s Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, a major PlayStation exclusive, is PS5-only.

Whether you’ll need a PS5 to play the next big game is thus uncertain. From these trends, we would expect the PS4 to stop receiving cross-platform titles after 2023. The PS4 Pro may receive a different treatment, but Sony hasn’t made a distinction between PS4 models for any releases since the PS5 came out.

Ps4 Vs Ps4 Pro: Specs

The internals is where we see some of the key differences between these two PS4 models. Both consoles share an AMD Jaguar x86-64 8-core CPU, which has seen a 30% boost in clock speed from 1.6GHz to 2.1GHz based on its predecessor.

Meanwhile, the GPU has seen a much bigger performance increase on PS4 Pro. Its power has been doubled, and its clock speed has been boosted from 800MHz to 911MHz. In total, the GPU has jumped from 1.84 TFLOP in the launch PS4 to 4.2 TFLOP in the Pro. This bump is in order to accommodate the new 4K functionality.

The Wi-Fi of the Pro also saw an upgrade to include 802.11ac and a Bluetooth bump from v2.1 to v4.0. Both of these upgrades were also seen in the new slim PS4. The Pro also has an additional 1GB of DDR3 RAM, used for non-gaming apps to free up the faster GDDR5 RAM for gaming performance.

Ps4 Pro: Multiplayer And Online

With your PS4 Pro connected to the internet, you can open up the console’s full potential. You can buy more games digitally through the PlayStation Store, saving them on your spacious 1TB hard drive, or with a PS Plus subscription, play online multiplayer, get two free games a month, cloud storage for your save files and other benefits.

There’s also PS Now, the PlayStation game streaming service which, in return for a $10 monthly subscription, allows you to play a variety of games from the PS2, PS3 and PS4 libraries. Since it’s a streaming service, you can also play these games on your PC too, and save your games online so you can swap between devices.

The subscriptions are expensive, 12 months of either costing $60, but it’s unfortunately the average rate for these services, with Xbox offering more but for double the price each month, while Nintendo’s Switch Online is far cheaper but offers fewer goodies.

But I Heard The Ps4 Pro Doesnt Actually Run Games At Native 4k

PS4 update 4.0 details

Well, this is technically true. Some games will run at a native 4K Ultra HD resolution thats 3,840 by 2,160 lines pixels by the way but the most demanding games wont.

Why? Because its very hard to render games smoothly at such a high resolution, even with the additional power of the PS4 Pro. A gaming PC that can run games at 4K would cost several times more than the PS4 Pro, after all.

Instead, many games will run at a resolution close to 4K often but not always 3,200 by 1,800 lines and then be upscaled to 4K. Sony has employed a clever technique that improves this process, so much so thats its very hard to tell the difference between its upscaled visuals and native 4K ones. There is a difference, but its hard to spot.

And this practice is nothing new. Many games already run below 1080p on existing consoles and are upscaled to it. And while the Xbox One S can upscale 1080p games up to 4K, theres no serious comparison between the two consoles.

The closer to 4K you get the better the upscaling will appear, so the Xbox One S cant match a PS4 Pro running the same game.

Ps4 Vs Ps4 Pro: Connections

In terms of rear connectors, the PS4 Pro is nearly identical to the standard PS4, aside from an extra USB 3.0 port which should prove useful if you’re hooking up a PlayStation VR since the headset takes up a USB port when it’s plugged in.

An extra USB port is an excellent inclusion since the PSVR brings back the Move Controllers, which each need a USB port to charge. If you’re planning a jump into virtual reality, then the PS4 Pro might be the way to go.

Unlike the slimmer PS4, the PS4 Pro does include an optical audio output on its rear, just like the original launch PS4 from 2013.

The final difference between the rear console ports is the HDMI port. While the standard PS4 has an HDMI 1.4 port, the PS4 Pro has an HDMI 2.0 port, allowing it to output at 4K resolutions .

It’s important to note that you don’t need to upgrade your HDMI cable to take advantage of 4K, despite what Sony is claiming on its official FAQ . Any HDMI cable that can handle 1080p can do 4K just fine.

Ps4 Vs Ps4 Pro: Key Differences

One of the main differences when it comes to the PS4 vs PS4 Pro question is resolution: the original PS4 is limited to 1080p but the newer PS4 Pro can go as high as 2160p or 4K, as it’s more commonly known. However, games need to have been specifically updated to take advantage of the PS4 Pro you can see a comprehensive list of older PS4 Pro enhanced games here.

Ultimately, it’s up to game developers themselves to make the most of the more powerful PS4 Pro hardware. If there’s no PS4 Pro mode in the game, then you can’t get true 4K resolutions.

The good news is that since the Pro launched, all new PS4 games have to include a ‘Pro Mode’, enabling them to make the most of the Pro’s enhanced hardware. It’s also worth considering that even if an older game hasn’t had a PS4 Pro patch, it’s still probably going to run better on the more expensive console, which also applies to PS5.

Don’t forget that in order to see 4K HDR graphics in all their glory on your PlayStation 4 Pro, you’ll need a 4K HDR TV to match an older 1080p screen won’t see much of a benefit, apart from supersampling a generally more stable frame rate.

Should you buy a PS4 Pro and have a 4K TV on hand, however, prepare yourself for a feast for the eyes games look great on the PS4 Pro. Textures in Spider-Man on PS4 Pro are significantly clearer than on the regular PS4, for example Insomniac has done a great job optimizing the game for PS4, but playing it on a Pro is the superior experience .

Ps4 Pro Vs Ps4 Dimensions

The graphics processor in the PS4 Pro thats the bit that generates the 3D graphics in games is just over twice as powerful as that in the PS4. Sonys also upgraded the processor, which handles things like physics and artificial intelligence in games.

Sony claims the new PS4 Pro can run at 4.2 teraflops, compared to the 1.84 teraflops of the original PS4 teraflops is a simple measure of computer performance, a bit like horsepower in cars. Well get onto how that power is used a little later.

In addition, while the PS4 Pro has the same amount of memory as the original PS4 8GB GDDR5 it runs at a higher speed to improve performance. The PS4 Pro also has an extra 1GB of memory for non-gaming applications like Netflix. This means they wont waste space games can use and means you can switch between apps faster. Here are the PS4 Pro specs compared to the original and PS4 Slim versions:

Ps4 Vs Ps4 Pro: Which Playstation Should You Buy

PlayStation 4 Pro Teardown | PS4 Pro

– The PlayStation 5 may have started a new generation of consoles for Sony, but it’s still hard to find in stock and is pretty pricey.

Well, the PS4 and PS4 Pro are still great options that tick all the boxes. They are both reasonably priced for what they offer, support a games library that is now thousands of titles deep and, most importantly, they are available right now.

So, if you are looking to get yourself a PlayStation this year rather than next, the only question now is which one?

We look at the specifications and features of both in order to help you make that decision.

Ps4 Pro Vs Ps: Conclusion

The PS4 Pro is undoubtedly a substantial step up from the PS4, but ‘true’ 4K gaming is difficult for it to achieve without compromise.

The biggest physical difference between it and the standard PS4 visually is the addition of an extra layer, but the internals were beefed up considerably. The GPU is a great deal faster, and although the CPU is architecturally similar, it’s been clocked at a faster speed.

So, should you make the upgrade from your existing PS4? The answer largely depends on if you have a 4K TV or plan on upgrading to one. If you are, then the PS4 Pro will present numerous visual benefits. If you aren’t, well, there’s likely isn’t anything on the PS4 Pro that will be worth the extra money, at least not yet.

With the PS5 now having launched, of course, you may wish to save your cash for this true next-generation leap in power and capability. Otherwise, though, you should be able to nab some excellent prices on the PS4 and the PS4 Pro even if they’re looking a bit long in the tooth by comparison.

The Ps4’s Legacy Lives On

As we’ve seen, there are some situations where it could make sense to buy a PS4 right now. But as the system continues to age, we don’t recommend buying a PlayStation 4 in most cases. It’s smarter to wait for a PS5, get PlayStation exclusives on PC, or get another console instead of paying for an old system.

Buying a modern console, especially once more games arrive for it, is a better investment of your money. It just requires a little patience for now.

Ps4 Pro Vs Ps: What Can You Play On Them

Theres no difference between the games libraries for the PS4 and PS4 Pro. Most modern games advertise that theyre PS4 Pro Enhanced, which usually means they offer a higher resolution , more detail or just a smoother frame rate. Otherwise, youll find that the entire catalogue of PS4 games can be played on either console without issue.

PlayStation Virtual Reality is compatible with all three consoles and, again, theres no difference in the library of games on offer. However, what you will find is that the intelligent game developers out there have made full use of the PS4 Pros added grunt VR games played on PS4 Pro often look and run better than those played on the standard machines.

Ps4 Vs Ps4 Pro: Optical Drive

This is a particularly sore spot for Sony’s latest system. Despite initial speculation to the contrary, the PS4 Pro does not include an Ultra HD Blu-ray player it can play Full HD 1080p Blu-ray discs, just like the original PS4.

Sony’s decision to omit an Ultra-HD Blu-ray drive from the system is puzzling, considering that Blu-ray support was one of the PS3s major boons. Now, Sony saved that for its latest console… but considering Microsoft’s Xbox One S already has the high-end disc drive, it would’ve benefitted Sony to have launched the Pro with one too.

Ps4 Pro: Price And Availability

Max. resolution: 4K

Storage: 1TB

When the PS4 Pro launched in November 2016, it had a price tag of $399, which was $100 more than the PS4 Slim .

But it’s now been discontinued, naturally making way for the PS5. That means you’ll need to go down the used route to get a PS4 Pro. And that from a quick search on the likes of Amazon and Google Shopping, prices seem rather inflated.

We suggest you seek out a local second-hand electronics store as you may uncover PS4 Pro there for more affordable used prices. But at this stage, you’re probably better off seeking out a PS5 restock.

How Long Will The Ps4 Receive Support

In January 2021, Sony Japan confirmed that it was ceasing production of almost all PS4 models. This was unexpected, since the company had earlier claimed it would support the PS4 for several more years.

Sony dropping support for the console is a sign that you probably shouldn’t buy it. A discontinued console will soon stop receiving games, and Sony likely won’t offer hardware support for it much longer either.

But if you do get a PS4 in 2022, how long should you expect game support to last? To estimate, we can look back at the last console generation.

His video’s since been pulled down, but Daily Motion is still hosting the mirrored version above.
