God Of War 5 Ragnark Release Date

Shockingly, we actually had a release window for God of War 5: Ragnarök — 2021. However, since then, God of War has unsurprisingly been delayed to 2022. Even getting this game out next year is wild, considering God of War just launched in 2018. Sure, Santa Monica Studios has had four years, but it is way sooner than how long it took to get Horizon Forbidden West and The Last of Us Part II.

Since Santa Monica Studios already built God of War from the ground up, we imagine that itll be much easier to create a sequel to the 2018 game of the year, but since this title will be coming to PS5, well get enhanced graphics at hopefully higher frame rates.

There hasn’t been an update on the release date for God of War 5: Ragnarök, but we recently learned that God of War will be backwards compatible with the PS5 and the game will also carry over your save data from the PS4.

It’s been practically dead silent on the news front concerning God of War 5 Ragnarök, but we got some insight into what platforms the next God of War game might be on, at least according to former Santa Monica employee David Jaffe.

Jaffe was streaming none other than God of War when he made a comment on the fate of God of War 5 Ragnarök. “I’m sure the next God of War will be PS4, PS5,” Jaffe said. “Of course it will.”

We haven’t received any news about the latest God of War title, but Cory Barlog is with story details.

Review And Information For God Of War

About midway through God of War, Kratos and his son Atreus sit in a canoe in the middle of a lake, listening intently to a disembodied head recount the tawdry and tragic dramas of the Norse gods. The head dishes with the gusto of a gossip columnist and the smoothness of a public radio host. Kratos and son show the orator respect, only interrupting with the occasional question for clarification. That this serene moment doesnt ring false, let alone veer into tedium, speaks to the tremendous heavy lifting done by the creators of God of War to shift the tone, the style and the expectations of one of the most beloved but also most violent and debaucherous franchises in modern games.

Last we saw Kratos, he still enjoyed getting hammered on a bottle of red, participating in a well-lit orgy and slaying Greek gods in ways that a teenager might storyboard onto the back of a ruled notebook. He and his franchise thrived on adrenaline, any inner turmoil serving as a springboard for ultraviolence, rather than an emotional well to be drawn from. Times change, and the new God of War, part sequel and part reboot , has more heroic ambitions for the notorious antihero.

God Of War: Ragnarok News And Rumors

    Concluding the Norse saga

Santa Monica Studios creative director, Cory Barlog, has confirmed in an interview that Ragnarok will conclude the Norse storyline that started with 2018s God of War on PS4. Barlog explained that the main reasons to conclude the Norse saga in God of War: Ragnarok was because of the long development time involved in making a modern God of War game. Between the five years taken to develop 2018’s God of War and the four that will be spent on Ragnarok, the studio would rather the Norse storyline didn’t run over nearly 15 years through a third game, as itll be too stretched out.

    “Expressive choice” through new shields

The game will bring Kratos and players enjoy a little more variety when it comes to the shields that can be used, according to director, Eric Williams, in an interview with God of War YouTuber Jon Ford.

When Ford pointed out that in the most recent trailer there are moments where it looks like Kratos Guardian Shield has a different design and Kratos is using it in different ways, Williams said this was true and that while he didnt want to go too deep on it, the game will have different shields, and they have different defensive options and abilities.

The reason for this, William explained, is because he and the team at Santa Monica Studio really want to open up expressive choice to the way that you build your Kratos, like the equipment and loadout and things like that.”

God Of War Sales Hit A Staggering 195 Million Copies On Ps4

God of War PS4 – First Long Playthrough – Part 1
    • 1.3k

Alongside the news that God of War will be coming to PC in January, Sony has shared updated sales numbers for the PlayStation 4 exclusive. We obviously already knew that the game was a huge hit for the Japanese giant, both critically and commercially, but it’s still hugely impressive to hear that the title has sold through a whopping 19.5 million copies to date.

Most PlayStation exclusives tend to hit very high numbers these days, but almost 20 million units for a three-year-old game locked to a single platform is some achievement. There’s no doubt that Kratos is pretty much the face of PlayStation at this point in time.

It’s going to be very interesting to see how the upcoming sequel, God of War Ragnarok, does in a commercial sense compared to its predecessor. It will, of course, be released on two platforms rather than one , but generally speaking, sequels sometimes struggle to replicate the sales success of the titles that came before.

In any case, God of War really has solidified itself as a landmark release for PlayStation.

Staying true to what we did last time, its keeping the father-son relationship moving, Williams told the site. It doesnt just stop, like, oh, we finished this for mom, were good. No, like, theres a lot more that goes on in life, and it continues moving forward.

Last time, it was one kid with a lot of adults talking. This is like, well, there are some different perspectives. Were gonna see it from a kids perspective in the world, figuring things out that they thought were black and white, or maybe much more gray, and a lot more family dynamics.

God Of War Ragnarok Is Ending The Norse Saga Mainly Due To How Long It Takes To Make Modern Gow Games

    Michael Harradence / September 16, 2021

Speaking during an interview with Kaptain Kuba, Sony Santa Monica Studios Cory Barlog and Eric Williams explained why the Norse saga is wrapping up with God of War Ragnarok.

Barlog took charge of answering the question, and revealed that much of the decision comes down to the fact modern God of War games take a good four-five years to make. If there was a third game in the Norse saga, it would mean that the whole thing would take about 15 years overall.

In addition, the team decided not to stretch the story out too far, although God of War wasnt exactly a small game, so presumably Ragnarok will be packed with content that will help tie up all the loose ends.

God of War Ragnarok is currently in development for PS4 and PS5 and will launch in 2022. The game sees the return of Kratos and Atreus, who will be battling Thor, God of Thunder and Freya. Players can expect more input from Atreus this time around in regards to combat, while the addition of Fimbulwinter will see all 9 realms changed in different ways.

Speaking of Thor, his appearance has been praised by British powerlifting champion Darren McCormac as the peak of male performance.

There’s Mystery And Adventure Around Every Corner

As hinted at above, the world of “God of War” the mythological Norse realm of Midgard is rife with mystery.

While exploring the vast expanse of Midgard, you’re extremely likely to stumble on one of the dozens of mysteries hiding around every corner. You might find a hulking dragon being held captive, or a massive, abandoned fortress full of treasures .

Most likely, you’ll find hours of your time being filled with entirely optional exploration. For instance: What’s through this crack in the wall?! You better believe I found out.

For every new area I found, another half dozen paths teased me with as yet unexplored regions. Up to and including when I finished the game, after over 50 hours of play time, I was still finding new areas. Having now completed the game, there are loads of places I’ve never been entire storylines I’ve never completed, or even begun.

It’s incredibly impressive, honestly. The level of detail is what makes Midgard feel alive, despite it’s clearly fantastical trappings.

How Long God Of War Is And How Many Chapters There Are

The new God of War game for the PS4 continues Kratos story, except this time, the series is delving deep into Norse mythology instead of Greek, which fans have been used to. The game itself is pretty lengthy and, even if you choose to focus solely on progressing through the main story, itll still take you some time to complete it.

In our playthrough of God of War, we clocked in at around 30 hours while playing on the games Give Me A Balanced Experience difficulty. We completed a handful of side missions, but certainly did not exhaust all activities there are to do in the game outside of playing the story. If you choose to explore all the realms fully and pursue optional objectives, you can easily add another 10 to 15 hours to your playtime.

There are a total of 17 chapters in God of War, as listed below. Do note that some chapter names might contain spoilers, so to avoid accidentally spoiling anything for you, weve put them on the next page.
