In the interest of fairness, this analysis won’t consider things like how good a particular console’s games are, or a console’s specifications. Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft all went head to head in a war where the only thing that matters is how many units you sell and how much money you make.

There’s certainly life in the old dog yet, especially when so many upcoming titles are slated for PS4.

Sony Has Sold 1 Million Ps5s In Japan Faster Than Ps4

PlayStation 5 hardware sales have reportedly exceeded 1 million units in Japan.
Thats according to sales data published by Famitsu, which claims that PS5 hit the sales milestone in 43 weeks . In comparison, it took PS4 a year to sell one million consoles in Japan, whereas PS3 reached the number slightly faster at nine months.

Sonys PlayStation 2 remains the best selling game console of all time, two decades after its release. Data gathered by Learnbonds.com indicates that by March 2020 approximately 1.56 billion game consoles of different brands have been sold globally with PlayStation 2 accounting for 10.07%.
Among the top sold units, Sony, Atari, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sega brands have more than one version of game consoles. Since its release in 2000, the PlayStation 2 consoles have sold 157.68 million units. The Nintendo DS is the second-highest selling game console with 154.9 million units globally followed by Game Boy at 118.69 million units. Notably, the PlayStation 2 has outsold the popular Playstation 4 which has 109.86 million units globally. In fifth place there is the first PlayStation console that has sold 102.5million units. The Wii console is sixth with 101.64 million units sold globally.

Sonys third PlayStation series has sold 87.41 million units globally followed by Microsofts Xbox 360 at 85.8 million. Microsoft may have some trouble riding into this new generation though with so many Sony fans grandfathered in. Xbox One left a bad taste in many gamers mouths after a very, very rocky launch and Sony still continuing to best them in first-party exclusives, no matter how good Forza has gotten. Microsoft is trying to change that, investing heavily in new games and IPs, but we dont know how long that will take to bear fruit.

The Learnbonds.com research also overviewed the sales of Sonys PS2 and PS4 based on regions. Interestingly, Europe has emerged as the biggest consumer of Sony PlayStation platforms. The PlayStation 2 has sold more consoles in Europe at 55.28 million while in North America the units stand at 53.65 million. In Japan, there are 23.18 million sold units while the rest of the world stands at 25.57 million.

God Of War Has Sold Nearly 20 Million Copies
PlayStation and developer Santa Monica Studio announced this week that the critically-acclaimed PlayStation 4 title God of War would finally be coming to PC in early 2022. Xbox One Has Sold Less Than Half As Many Consoles As Ps4 According To Ea
Since they were put on sale we have been seeing how Sonys PlayStation 4 is winning sales to Microsofts Xbox One, although today it is not entirely clear what exactly the difference is. Thankfully, Sony has secured a new source for the semiconductors it needs to manufacture PS5 systems, which should help it speed up production.
Ultimately, Sony aims to sell more than 14.8 million PS5s in its current fiscal year set to end on March 31, 2022 – that’s just this fiscal year, not counting the sales from the launch window, and it’s the same number of PS4 consoles Sony sold in the same time frame for that console.
