How To Back Up Your Playstation4 Data
To back up data you need a FAT32 or exFAT-formatted external storage device with at least double the storage space the PS4 hard drive has. If you don’t have enough space to back up everything on your device, you can choose not to back up application data.
Its important to sync your Trophies first because they are not included in the backup data. Go to Trophies, press the OPTIONS button, and select the Sync Trophies With PSN.
Insert the external storage device you’d like to use for the backup into one of the PS4 USB ports.
Go to Settings > System > Back Up and Restore.
Select Back Up.
Confirm which data you’d like to back up. It is important to back up saved data to avoid losing any game progress during the hard drive replacement.
A progress bar will show the current status of the backup. You can cancel it at any time.
On the next screen, you can customize the name of the backup. When done, highlight Back Up and press the X button.
Remove the external storage device from the PS4 system.
Back Up Ps4 Save Data To Usb For Free
If you dont have PlayStation Plus, you can still back up your save data manually. Youll need a spare USB drive. Make sure its empty, as the PS4 might have to format the drive before it can use it, which will erase the contents.
You can also format the USB drive to exFAT or FAT32 beforehand if you want. You can do this on Windows or in Disk Utility on a Mac.
First, connect the USB drive to one of the USB ports on the front of your PS4. Then, head to Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Copy to USB Storage Device. If you dont see this option, make sure the USB drive is completely inserted and correctly formatted.
Wait for the PS4 to scan your drive. On the next screen, you can select an individual game, highlight any files you want to save, and then select Copy.
If you want to back up multiple applications, hit Options, and then choose Select Multiple Applications to copy entire folders of save files for multiple game titles.
Manual USB backups are the best safeguard against single save files that become corrupted. If a corrupted save file is automatically sent to PlayStation Plus, youll lose the old version. You can also turn off automatic uploads, but that puts your other save files at risk.

If not, you can do it the old fashioned way, by physically copying your saves on to a USB stick or drive. Below, well show you how to do both.
Back Up Saved Data To The Cloud
The easiest way to back up your PS4s saved game data is via the cloud. However, in order to do so, you will need a subscription to PlayStation Plus. This gives you 100 GB of storage that can be used to back up your saved game data.

Backing up your data regularly is a great way to ensure that important data is saved. You can back up data saved on your PlayStation®5 console storage to a USB storage drive.
Important information
Don’t turn off your PS5 console while backing up or restoring data. Doing this may cause data loss or corruption, or damage to your PS5 console or USB drive.
- When restoring data, your PS5 console will erase all data saved on your console. This can’t be undone, even if you cancel the restore operation. Make sure you don’t erase any important data by mistake. Erased data cannot be restored.
- Users who have never signed in to PSN can restore saved data only to the original PS5 console that was backed up. To restore saved data to another console, you must sign in on that console.
- Games and apps saved in M.2 SSD storage aren’t included in backup data. You can continue using your M.2 SSD storage drive as usual on the PS5 console that you’re restoring.
