Play On Nintendo Switch With Controllers From Other Consoles

How to connect a ps4 controller to a Nintendo Switch.

Several devices are available on the market that allow us to play on Nintendo Switch with controllers from other consoles without the need to use cables or adapters. Among them, we have the 8Bitdo device, which we will detail later.

This device connects to the dock of the Nintendo Switch and we can synchronize it via Bluetooth with the PS4 and Xbox One controller in a few minutes, easily.

In general, people who have a Nintendo Switch also have another console, either an Xbox One or a Playstation 4. That is why this adapter fits like a glove, you can also buy it on the Amazon Spain website for less of 20 euros.

In the next section we will show you the process you must follow to be able to play on Nintendo Switch with controllers from other consoles using the 8Bitdo device.

How To Connect A Nintendo Switch Pro Controller To A Pc

You can easily play your favorite Steam games with the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. You can play other PC games with it, too, but it requires a bit of work. Here’s how to do it.

The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is one of the priciest “baseline” controllers in the current console generation, but it’s also sturdy, feels good to play with, has an excellent directional pad, and features impressive motion sensors and vibration tech. On top of that, the gamepad uses Bluetooth, so you don’t need an adapter to connect it with your PC.

The Pro Controller appears to Windows as a DirectInput controller rather than an XInput controller like the Xbox Series S/X and Xbox One gamepads, so it can be a bit of a chore to get it working with your PC games. Fortunately, Valve added full Switch Pro Controller support to Steam, so that probably covers a good chunk of your game library. Non-Steam games require additional steps that we’ll walk you through.

Of course, you can’t use your Switch Pro Controller with your PC until you first connect it to your PC. You have two options: wired and wireless. Wired is simplest, but wireless is, well, wireless. And it requires a bit of work.

Nintendo Switch Will Now Allow Players To Connect To Bluetooth Audio

The latest #NintendoSwitch update is now available, including the ability to pair Bluetooth devices for audio output.

For more information, including restrictions on some features while using Bluetooth Audio, please visit the support page:

Nintendo of America

It bears noting that players will only be able to use up to 2 wireless controllers with the Nintendo Switch system while using Bluetooth audio. Adding more controllers will require players to disconnect the Bluetooth audio device. Plus, Bluetooth audio will be disconnect when starting a local wireless multiplayer game.

Despite this being a relatively standard feature, it is surprising that neither the PS4/PS5 or Xbox One/Series X/S have implemented this feature yet. While both the Dualshock 4/Dualsense and the Xbox Wireless Controller come with a headphone jack neither can connect to Bluetooth audio devices, which is a bit of a bummer.

While this is Nintendo simply making up for a feature that they should have had from the beginning seeing the lack of a standard headphone jack it remains a positive development nonetheless.

The Nintendo Switch Pro controller is one of the best controllers on the market and works great with PC. Heres how to connect the Nintendo Switch Pro controller to PC.

Much like how the Pro controller works with the actual console it was made for, the Pro controller can connect to a PC both wired and wirelessly. Naturally, a wired connection comes with a much easier set up, but its wired which means theres only so much distance allowed between you and the PC.

Wireless, on the other hand, allows you to play from farther away from the PC, but it does require you to set up a Bluetooth connection. Lets start with the easiest setup.

Hardware Alternative: 8bitdo Wireless Usb Adapter

Steam’s Pro Controller support is welcome, but you’re out of luck if you want to play non-Steam games with the controller because of how Windows detects it. You can fix this in one of two ways: using a hardware Bluetooth adapter specifically designed for multiple gamepad types, or using a software-based, XInput wrapper.

The 8BitDo Wireless USB Adapter is a $20 Bluetooth adapter that lets you easily connect the Switch Pro Controller, Switch Joy-Cons, or even the Wii U Pro Controller to your PC. The adapter handles all of the XInput details, so connecting the Switch Pro Controller to it with the physical sync button instead of through your PC’s Bluetooth menu makes it work like a PC-friendly Xbox gamepad.

    Using Your Playstation 4 Controller

How to use a ps4 controller on Nintendo switch

DS4Windows works by reading your DualShock 4 as though it were an Xbox 360 controller. By default, it offers a great one-size-fits-all button setup. So now that it’s installed, your DualShock 4 should behave like an Xbox 360 controller, meaning it will work with any game with Xinput supportwhich is to say, most every modern PC game that supports gamepads. That also means you won’t get the correct Square/Cross/Triangle/Circle button icons by default in most games. Some games will give you the option, though. Look for that in settings.

You do not need to remap anything, but if you want to change some buttons or adjust sensitivity without relying on in-game options, you can. Open the Profiles tab in DS4Windows. I do not recommend making a profile from scratch, but if you really want to, click New to start one up. Otherwise, select the DualShock 4 profile and click Edit.

This screen looks complicated, but it’s actually pretty simple. Let’s say you want to swap your bumpers and triggers. First, find L1/R1 and L2/R2 in the scroll wheel in the Controls section, or just click them on the virtual controller. You want to swap L1 with L2 and R1 with R2, so start by clicking L2.
