What Is The Difference Between Xbox One And Ps4

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Design

The Differences Between the XBOX ONE & the PS4

The two consoles look strikingly different.

The design of the Xbox Series X looks not too dissimilar to a matte black tower PC a clear departure from the Xbox One that can be stood vertically or laid horizontally. It measures 30 x 15 x 15cm , weighs 4.45kg and works with a 130mm fan that draws cool air up through vents in the bottom and sends hot air out through outlets at the top. Unlike previous generations of Xbox, there’s no HDMI input or optical output.

Compared with the quite utilitarian appearance of the Xbox Series X, the PS5 looks very sci-fi. Its curvaceous lines and glossy white finish contrast with the Xbox’s sharp, geometric silhouette and stealthy matte black paint.

Some say that the PS5’s white shell has the look of a high-collared catsuit, with an opening that plunges down to create a ‘V’ that could denote that this is the fifth-generation PlayStation.

As for dimensions, the PS5 is absolutely huge. While it’s a touch slimmer than the Xbox Series X , it’s significantly taller . It can be laid horizontally if preferred, but the PS5’s size can still cause issues for those with limited space in their equipment racks, particularly as you have to allow space around it for air to flow.

Ultimately, while the Xbox is the duller-looking of the two consoles, it’s also the more practical, so it just about scrapes the win here.

It has an IR out port, which can help control your home theater setup if you don’t have a Kinect or the Kinect’s signal can’t reach. Some Things Haven’t Changed

Despite much saber rattling, most existing Sony PlayStation and Xbox users will likely to stick to the machine and exclusive games with which they are familiar if they opt to upgrade. And after a decade of competition, the two consoles have shared ideas and flaws between them. Therefore, the new offerings are a more of a level playing field than the manufacturers want you to think.

For example, each company’s early generations started out as singular, closed devices, and later opened up to media content apps and social media services. Expect that to continue with the new devices, with improved content sharing features to make gaming more of a social and spectator experience. But there are some things that you won’t see in the brochures.

  • Both devices systems are a little bit broken or incomplete at launch. Multiple patches and upgrades will be the story of owning either of them as functionality is fixed, improved and added over time.
  • The launch games aren’t that good. Most sites are giving middling review scores to the new games for both consoles. If you don’t have to buy one, why not wait a bit until the offering improves?
  • Sony used to have a major advantage with PlayStation Plus, a subscription service offering free games month-by-month. Microsoft’s launch of Games With Gold is intended to counter that, but is somewhat less refined.

Battlefield 2042 On Ps4 Xbox One Vs Ps5 Xbox Series X Pc

During a pre-launch presentation with DICE and EA, the developers confirmed that the game was built with next-gen players in mind, with 128 players on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Unfortunately for those still using older hardware, DICE and EA state that lobbies will max out at the usual 64 players, meaning that you wont be able to experience the same combat as those with newer hardware.

Due to the fact that there are fewer players, Battlefield 2042s maps will be tailored to smaller scale to ensure epic battles, although gameplay and mid-map events will all be the same regardless of what platform you play on.

In a recent briefing from Battlefields Senior Design Director, Dan Berlin, DICE provided more details on the differences between the two versions.

Our intention is to ensure that nothing detracts from the overall experience of playing Battlefield 2042, he explained. The main differences are that theyve reduced the player count and made adjustments to the playable area on the maps to ensure a fluid play experience.

He reiterated that Weapons, Vehicles, Specialists and Gadgets all remain the same no matter what generation of console youre playing on. Weather effects and Environmental Hazards like EMP storms will also be experienced by all players, he continued.

Nintendo Switch will receive FIFA 22 under the same conditions as the previous deliveries. It will not have new game modes, or VOLTA or anything that did not have the edition on which it is based. The mechanics will stay the same.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Specs

In the battle of the spec sheets, the PS5 appears to lose out against the Xbox Series X. Both have 8-core CPUs from AMD, but the Xboxs are clocked at 3.8GHz while the PS5s are 3.5GHz. Both consoles also use AMD graphics processors, with the Xboxs providing 12 teraflops of power to the PS5s 10.28 teraflops.

Both consoles use SSDs rather than mechanical hard disk drives, with Microsoft offering a terabyte of storage to the PS5s 825GB. But the way Sony has designed and integrated the PS5s storage makes it so fast that it essentially boosts overall console performance.

But neither console uses that power to deliver 8K. Despite 8K being mentioned at various times by both companies in the run up to launch, it’s simply not an option in the menus of either machine. Instead, in both cases 4K at 60Hz is the performance target, with 120Hz and/or some fancy next-gen graphical features available via some games.

Of those next-gen graphical features, it’s ray tracing that’s most significant. This new technology massively improves lighting, shadows and reflections, and has the potential to transform almost everything you see on screen, making games look vastly more realistic. Both consoles support it.

ALLM and VRR are becoming more common on TVs, and the latter in particular is a real boon for gaming. Only the Xbox Series X currently supports these, though. Sony says VRR is on the way for PS5, but hasn’t provided a date and hasn’t even mentioned ALLM at all.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Which Is Better

The time has finally come. After the longest-lasting console generation in the modern era of games, the new next-gen is finally here in the form of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.

Sort of. Because both consoles are proving incredibly difficult to find. For the best chance of laying your hands on a console, check out our Xbox Series X stock update and Sony PS5 stock and where to buy pages.

This isnt like previous generations of console wars, which have tended to usher in a resolution revolution, because the leap to 4K and HDR was taken care of by the mid-generation Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. You might expect 8K to therefore be the big news here, particularly as each manufacturer suggested as much in its early marketing, but 8K is in fact not supported by either console.

Instead, the Xbox Series X and PS5 represent the frame rate and ray tracing revolution. Games are still in 4K, but they run faster, feel more responsive and look significantly prettier.

To some, that will sound like hot air, and the case against the new consoles will only solidify when we reveal that you dont need to buy one of them in order to play the latest games. With some notable exceptions, every game that you can play on a next-gen machine will also play on its predecessor.

    Ps4 Vs Xbox One: Dimensions

We could go into the ins and out of the differences between the designs of the PS4 and Xbox One, but if youre the type of person that loves a snazzy looking piece of kit on your shelf, heres what you need to know:

    The original Xbox One is a lot larger than the PS4, measuring up at 7.9 x 27.4 x 33.3cm compared to the PS4s 5.3 x 27.5 x 30.5cm dimensions.

Ps4 Pro Vs Xbox One X Virtual Reality

The PS4 Pro is much better equipped for the PSVR than the current PS4 thanks to its improved processing and graphical grunt.

The original PS4 will still be able to run the PSVR and its associated games, but the PS4 Pro will give you a much better and more comfortable gameplay experience.

The social screen, A.K.A what anyone else in the house can see on the TV screen when you’re deep in VR land, is vastly improved over what’s available on either of the standard PS4 consoles, although it’s still not HD resolution or full screen.

VR game developers are also starting to issues PS4 Pro specific patches for PS VR games running on Sony’s latest console.

However, we will caveat this by saying that you’ll need to disconnect the PS VR if you want to play games on the PS4 Pro in 4K or with HDR. That’s because the PS VR’s processing unit can’t process either of these new display technologies.

That makes moving between “normal” PS4 games and PS VR titles a bit of a faff, especially if your PS4 Pro is wedged in any kind of entertainment unit where the back isn’t easily accessible.

Ps4 Vs Xbox One: Outside Of Gaming

eFootball 2022 (2021) XBOX ONE vs PS4 vs PC (Which One is Better?)

So you’ve got the techs, the specs, and the games. But, what can these consoles offer you if you’re not bothered about anything to do with that, and are just purchasing the console as a gift? Well, that’s where it gets interesting.

Both the Xbox One and PS4 have a pretty solid foundation for those who want to use the console outside of gaming. However, the Xbox One does have more options. For example, while both are able to play Blu-ray DVDs with no trouble as long as they are from the correct region, though it is only the Xbox One that supports Dolby Atmos and 4K Blu-rays.

The Xbox One also makes it easier to switch over between watching TV and playing video games. The PS4 does ‘okay’, but with the Xbox One you’re able to transmit your cable box’s TV signal without having to go out of your way to plug out your HDMI cable, insert it into your cable box, etc.

That said, Xbox One and PS4 both have a number of different media apps, giving you more than enough options from big, major media giants like Netflix, NOW TV and Hulu, to stuff like Crunchyroll and Animax.

Furthermore, both consoles allow you to play your own media, including music, from your USB. Of course, it is advised that you label your files correctly and put them in folders, but apart from that, all media files can be played through the selected console’s media app. And just like Spotify and apps like it, you’re able to listen to your songs whilst doing something entirely different with your console.
