Is The PS4 Slim Worth It?

Sony’s beefier home console, the PS4 Pro, includes a 1-terabyte hard drive and offers improved graphics with games that are suitably updated. If you’re looking to buy your first PS4 console, you can skip the Slim and pay $100 more for Sony’s latest and greatest. It’s worth noting that the PS4 Pro, however, can’t play 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays.

You should also be aware of the Xbox One S, which can play 4K Blu-rays and is HDR compatible. It also starts at $300. Microsoft’s answer to the PS4 Pro, something the company currently calls Project Scorpio, won’t be here for at least another year, but it does appear to edge out the PS4 Pro’s specs on paper.

Ps4 Console Deals In The Us

New PS4s were available to buy – but only for a very short while. Much like Sony’s newest console, it too has already sold out again. It seems weird saying this, given the console should have gone out of production at the end of last year, but it’s been so hard to get a PS5. Seeing this, Sony wanted to give people an option if they’re desperate to play new releases that are also launching on the previous generation console.

If a brand new console comes back in stock we’ll add it below. For now, your only option is to go second hand or refurbished.

PS4 Refurbished: $289.99 at GameStop Given a brand new PS4 console sells for $299.99, this is a lot to pay for a second-hand one at GameStop. It just goes to show how prices have increased now that no new PS4 consoles are available to buy. This could change in the months ahead, though, so our suggestion is to wait and buy one of the new ones when they are available if you’re able to hold off right now.

The Ps4 Has An Excellent Library Of Games

It’s no secret that owning a PS4 grants you access to a vast catalog of games. This includes the best PS4 exclusives like God of War and Ratchet & Clank, third-party titans like Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed, indie games, and remasters of classic PlayStation games.

If you don’t already have another console or a gaming PC, the PS4 provides a great way to play tons of games. This is especially the case due to the revamped PlayStation Plus service introduced in June 2022. By paying more for the Extra or Premium tier, you can access hundreds of top titles from the PS4 and older PlayStation consoles. If you’re just jumping into the PlayStation lineup, that’s a lot of value compared to buying games individually.

However, the PS4 is a hard sell in 2022 if you’re primarily looking for its exclusives.

The Ps4’s Legacy Lives On

As we’ve seen, there are some situations where it could make sense to buy a PS4 right now. But as the system continues to age, we don’t recommend buying a PlayStation 4 in most cases. It’s smarter to wait for a PS5, get PlayStation exclusives on PC, or get another console instead of paying for an old system.

Buying a modern console, especially once more games arrive for it, is a better investment of your money. It just requires a little patience for now.

Ps4 Slim Review: The New Dualshock 4 Controller

PS4 Slim vs PS4: which is better???

While the PS4 Slim console has been reworked, the DualShock 4 is still the same design that launched with PS4 in 2013.

And, while we are talking about redesign, let’s talk about the system’s bundled controller, which is once again similar yet different to the original model. The new PS4 controller, at first glance, looks identical to the original. It feels the same too in the hand – which is great as the original controller was just lovely – and offers the same levels of grip and performance. On closer inspection, however, there are a couple of notable changes.

The first is very noticeable, with a new translucent lightbar stretching across the controller’s touchpad. This has been included to allow players to see which colour they are set as without twisting the controller around in the hand. The second change is the new option of connecting the controller via USB connection for gameplay input. The original controller, in contrast, could only be charged via USB cable, relying purely on its Bluetooth connection for gameplay. This option to carry button and stick inputs over cable has been included to remove any chance of lag during pro gaming tournaments. This change also allows you to use the new DualShock 4 with PC without having to buy a Bluetooth dongle.

Is It Worth Buying A Ps4 Slim In 2019 Yes It Is #blackfriday

The original PS4 came out in 2013, and following the Sony release cycle, its safe to assume the next-gen PS5 will be released in late 2020 or mid-2021. So, the question has to be asked, is it worth waiting an extra year for PS5? Or should you buy the cheaper version of PS4 i.e. PS4 Slim in 2019?

Obviously, if you are a hardcore gamer, you should definitely get the new PS5. And chances are you might already have a PS4. Which Should You Get

The real question here is, what should you get? When you already know the differences in specs between the PS4 Pro and the PS4 Slim, its time to decide on what to buy. Here are some factors that will help you make the right decision.

If you are on a tight budget, the first thing you want to know is the price. How much does it cost to buy a PS4 Pro? How affordable is the PS4 Slim? Fortunately, the PS4 Slim is as low as $299. Its about the same price as the original PS4. For obvious reasons, the PS4 Pro is more expensive. It costs $399.

When thinking about the price, you often ask which one will be the most cost-effective. Youd be amazed at how the lowest is not always the best. In the case of the PS4 Slim, it is cheaper for a reason and thats because it cant display in 4K. If you plan to use a 4K TV, then you cant say you saved money by buying a PS4 Slim because later on, youd end up buying a PS4 Pro to match the specs of your TV.

In short, the PS4 Slim is more affordable but it also has a lower definition than PS4 Pro.

The more powerful GPU will help a lot in terms of handling 4K gaming. However, thats just about it. Despite its 4K TV feature, the PS4 Pro does not entirely run most games in native 4K. This is because there arent even a lot of games in native 4K in the first place. A lot of demanding games run at around 3200 x 1200 pixels which is not 4K.

    Superior model

If you want the best possible last-gen PlayStation experience, this is the one to buy, even if it’s the largest and most expensive option. It is discontinued though, so it will likely be harder to find than the base version.

    For

    • 4K HDR gaming looks incredible on everything
    • PlayStation VR performance is best on this PS4
    • General game performance is superior to a base PS4

    Against

    • Can get loud during intense gameplay
    • Discontinued, can be difficult to get hold of

    Budget-friendly

The cheaper and slimmer PS4 plays every game extremely well and is the easiest PS4 console to get hold of, but the lack of 4K output is noticeable if your TV supports it.

    For

    • Frame rate can be inferior to the PS4 Pro
    • Fairly outdated

It’s hard to go wrong with either version of the PlayStation 4 console, but these two versions serve very different purposes. While you can still play every PS4 game on each option here, you’ll notice a significant difference in overall quality depending on the room you’re playing in, and the other hardware you connect to the PlayStation. It is worth noting that the PS4 Pro is no longer being sold by Sony, making them harder to find.

Is It Still Worth Buying A Ps4 In 2022

The PS4 launched back in 2013 and was a huge success. But is a PS4 still worth buying in 2022? Here’s what to consider.

While the PlayStation 5 is Sony’s latest console, the PlayStation 4 is still on the market, at least as a pre-owned system. The question is: should you buy a PS4 in 2022?

Let’s look at some of the reasons why buying a PS4 still might be worthwhile for you, along with some cautions about buying the console so late into its life.

Sony Playstation 4 Slim Review: This Slimmed

Sony’s slimmed-down PS4 is mostly the same old black box we’ve known since 2013. And that’s OK.

There are really only three things you need to know about the PlayStation 4 Slim.

    The Good

    The Bad

    The Bottom Line

    • If you already have a PS4, you can ignore this model. It’s basically the exact same hardware, just in a smaller case.
    • If you’re in the market for a new PS4, you should first consider the PS4 Pro, the step-up model with a larger hard drive and better 4K-friendly graphics.
    • If you don’t have a 4K TV and you’re a first-time PS4 shopper on a budget, the PS4 Slim may well be a great option for you.

If none of that quite makes sense, don’t worry. Here’s why Sony currently has two PlayStations on the market, and how they differ from one another.

The PlayStation 4 Pro arrived in early November and retails for $399 in the US, £349 in the UK and AU$559 in Australia, though deals abound online.

Playstation 4 Slim Vs Pro: What’s The Difference

Sony has a history of releasing a “slim” version of the PlayStation a couple of years after its initial release. In the past, those consoles were labeled a little differently at launch to make it easier to tell the new version apart from the old one. These slimmer versions typically offer more a physical than a functionality difference, which is no different. The significant feature and performance difference comes with the PlayStation 4 Pro, and even then, the difference isn’t huge unless you own a 4K television with HDR support.

That last bit is a lot more important than you may think. Where an increase in resolution from 1080p to 4K can often mean improved details in the games you play, adding HDR means the colors in every aspect of those games are more vibrant and lifelike. Games with wide-open spaces and lots of scenery will truly pop on these displays, especially when combined with 4K resolution.

The biggest functional difference between the original PS4 and the new slimmer PS4 is power consumption. Sony claims the new PS4 has a max power draw of 165 watts, which sounds impressive next to the original 250w max of the first PS4 until you see most benchmarks. The original PlayStation 4 had an average power draw of 150w during its heaviest gameplay sessions and never pushed anywhere near that 250w max. It is slightly smaller, though, so there’s that.

PlayStation VR performance is something altogether different.

The Best Ps4 Console Deals In September 2022

The PS5 may be here, but can you find a PS4 for less?

The PS4 is now very difficult to buy as the PS5 is now firmly established as Sony’s main console and the hunt for a PS5 restock has improved considerably throughout 2022. It’s actually easier to buy the latest hardware today as multiple retailers have stock at any one time. Because of that, any deals on the PS4 are now limited to second-hand or refurbished consoles – the best of which you can find right here.

And that’s still where we find ourselves today. The only way to buy a PS4 right now is either second-hand or refurbished. If you’re happy to do that, it’s not a bad way to play some of the best PS4 games and most recent PlayStation exclusives on a budget console. Whether you want a PS4 or are willing to wait for the latest Sony console, do check back in regularly for all the latest deals, including any that might pop up in this year’s Black Friday deals.
