The holiday season is almost upon us, but the PS5 and PS5 Digital remain difficult to find in stock. Even though we’re getting close to a year out from launch, the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital tend to sell out within minutes at major retailers . Console restocks tend to pop up sporadically, with a couple of restocks each week. A lot of the restocks we’ve seen lately are for in-store pickup, which perhaps signifies a push to get more people in stores as the holidays approach. We also still regularly see PS5 bundles at GameStop, but even those tend to sell out very quickly. PS Direct is the most consistent with restocks, and ahead of the holiday season, PlayStation has opened up a registration system for the chance to buy the PS5. You simply need a free PSN account to register. Once registered, PlayStation will contact you via email if/when you get an invite to buy the PS5 from PS Direct. Grand Theft Auto Online & Grand Theft Auto V
Considering how successful Grand Theft Auto Online still is for Rockstar Games, it makes sense we’d see it transition over to next-generation consoles. Coming in the second half of 2021, the standalone version of GTA Online will be free for PS5 users for the first three months of its release. Grand Theft Auto V is also coming to the next-gen console in 2021. According to the brief trailer showcased at the start of the presentation, both will be expanded and enhanced.

The PlayStation 5 is proving to be much more than a simple evolution.
Nine months after its November 12 debut, the PS5 is well on its way to being a major success story for Sony.
Despite supply issues, Sony’s latest console has sold more than 10 million times worldwide, making it the biggest console launch in US history.
In the UK, the console was made available to buy on November 19, 2020 and sold out instantly.
The PlayStation 5 comes in two forms – the PS5 console: £449.99 and the PS5 Digital Edition console: £359.99.
The only difference between the PS5 console and the PS5 Digital Edition console is the inclusion of an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive in the PS5 console. The PS5 Digital Edition console does not feature a disc drive.

However, stock and production issues have made it tough for fans to actually get their hands on either one, with some buyers last year finding their Amazon PlayStation 5 shipments arriving as cat food, or even a bag of grain instead.
And the restock issue is still continuing to this day.
Due to demand, a number of retailers are limiting how many they can actually sell to customers, and equally production is being limited to suppliers too, to cope with the surge.

Is A Black Ps5 Available Through Official Channels
In a huge FAQ post about the PS5 released a few days before the consoles launch, Sony confirmed that there wont be additional colors or designs available for either of the PS5 models at launch.
This was an expected confirmation, given there has been no mention of a variation on the PS5s current two-tone design. As a result, many have taken to creating a black PS5 themselves, including one of our friends over at Gfinityesports.com, taking off the PS5 panelling and painting it black.

This may sound like a nifty idea, but it comes with a warning! This will likely render any warranty void, meaning if your PS5 runs into any issues, Sony might not help you.
Of course, the key phrase in the FAQs was at launch. This leaves open the possibility for a black PS5 in the future, but here we are over six months later, and we still know nothing about what this could entail.

The PS5s launch lineup is off to a solid start. The console’s big marquee launch game is Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a gorgeous and fun follow up to 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man complete with ray-traced graphics and an optional 60 fps performance mode.
Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a simple but charming 3D platformer with lots of character customization, but Astro’s Playroom, the free pack-in game that shows off the DualSense controller, might be even better. Not since 2007’s Nintendo Wii has a console launched with a notable game included out of the gate, and Sony’s new platformer is oozing with fun collectibles and easter eggs for hardcore PlayStation fans.
If mature action’s more your thing, Godfall is a fun and beautiful action-RPG that feels like a marriage of the weighty combat of God of War 2018 and the deep loot system of Destiny. Want something more stylish? Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition is an enhanced version of the stellar 2019 slash-em-up complete with both ray-tracing and 120 fps performance modes.
One of the PS5s biggest true launch exclusives is Demons Souls, a visually stunning remake of the beloved 2009 action/RPG of the same name. We’ve just started testing out Bluepoint’s new take on the cult favorite, so stay tuned for more impressions.
The problem is, you don’t need a PS5 to play many of these games. Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Sackboy: A Big Adventure are also available on PS4, as are many of the big third-party games that arrived at launch.

Latest: PS5 restocks have been very slow this week. According to , we can expect a restock at Game between 14-16th September, and at Argos 14-17th September after 8am. Though as always it is not guaranteed to be this week. This follows availability at AO, ShopTo and Studio in this week. In the US, PS5 digital consoles were briefly in stock at Target. As Black Friday announcements roll out, we learn more about console restocks.
We’ve been waiting for retailers to make Black Friday announcements, and it looks like the first has been found before the official announcement. According to a leaked photo of a paper advertisement from , Walmart will have a PS5 restock on Black Friday. If this image is true, Walmart plans to make its PS5 restock available first to its Walmart Plus subscribers. This means the best chance to grab a console on Black Friday is to sign up for this service, as you will have a four-hour head start on anyone else.
Walmart is unlikely to be the only retailer with plans to hide a PS5 restock behind a paywall this Black Friday. Most other retailers now offer a way for you to pay to cut the line by joining their membership programs. Here are the services we’ve seen so far:
One major retailer we haven’t seen charge for access to a PS5 has been , specifically through its Treasure Truck program. - Flights for PS5 Secured! According to Chinese tech outlet Caixin, Sony has made a deal with Delta Air Cargo allowing it to ship PlayStation 5 consoles to the US by air until the end of the year. It is either 60 flights or 60 aircraft. That is a lot of PS5s!
- PS5 Release Date is early!A recent AMD presentation talked about the possibility of shorter console cycles. Does this mean well see the PS5 earlier than expected? Its possible, but with the PS4 Pro announced, it could be that AMD was referring to this recently unveiled console. Sony doesnt seem too keen on shortening the console life cycles either.

Playstation 5 Price Vs Xbox Series X Price
So, how does the PS5 compare to the Xbox Series X on price? Better than many expected, as it happens.
The Xbox Series X and the full-fat PS5 are identically priced, at £449 .
Both consoles also have a disc drive-less, cheaper sibling: that’s the Xbox Series S and the PS5 Digital Edition. This is where things get really interesting, because the Xbox Series S costs only £250 , whereas the PS5 Digital Edition is £360 .
That’s a big step up, but it’s worth pointing out that the Xbox Series S is less powerful than the Series X but the PS5 Digital Edition is identical to the standard PS5 except for the lack of a disc drive. In other words, the PS5 Digital Edition appears to be more of a proper next-gen games console than the Xbox Series S.

You sure can! The overwhelming majority of the PS4 games you own are playable on the PS5. Youll be able to download any games you bought through the PlayStation store on your PS4 and play them on the next-gen console.

Ps5 Design: What Does The Playstation 5 Look Like
The PlayStation 5 design was unveiled at the 11th June PS5 event. While we already knew what to expect for the controller, the console itself hadnt yet been revealed. Two consoles were announced one with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and a Digital Edition without a disc drive. The two have minor differences, but overall, the Playstation blog says Sony aimed for a console that is bold, stunning, and unlike any previous generation of PlayStation.#
It is also sizeable, much bigger than many have expected and one of the main questions asked is why this is such a huge console. It turns out that the reason it is so big is because of the large fan that is inside to stop it from overheating- so at least the reason for the scale of it is a good one.

How Much Is Too Much
Companies like Sony need to make money, but theres also a maximum amount that people are willing to spend on a game console. Its a careful balance, but if we turn to episode 82 of the Pachter Factor, which you can watch below, Michael Pachter explains that Sony and Microsoft dont make much money at all on console sales.
The real profits come from software sales. Sony takes a percentage of the sales for every game you buy on the PS4 or PS4 Pro. This consistent revenue stream is where they make money. For them, it makes more sense to lose a little on the console and reap the rewards of a larger player base.
This is also why iterative consoles like PS4 Pro and Xbox One X make sense from a business standpoint. As Pachter explains in the video , these consoles encourage people to trade in their old systems at stores like GameStop.
GameStop then sells them an upgraded console. After that, they turn around and sell your old used console to someone else. In this way, Microsoft just earned a new Xbox gamer who will purchase games for their Xbox One.
Given this, Sony doesnt need to charge a bunch for the PS5. They simply need to minimize their losses and maximize the number of people who own the console and purchase games for it. For this reason, it woudnt be smart to charge $599 or more for the PS5.
