Playstation 5 Stock Shortage
Sony had planned on the production of 5 million PlayStation 5 games consoles by the end of March 2021. But as the popularity of gaming exploded during the pandemic, Sony doubled PlayStation production to meet 10 million units by the same date.
Sadly, it wasn’t enough. In May 2021, the company warned analysts that PlayStation 5 shortages would continue until 2022: “I dont think demand is calming down this year and even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PlayStation 5 next year, our supply wouldnt be able to catch up with demand,” said Hiroki Totoki, Sony’s Chief Financial Officer.
On 12th November 2021 the PS5’s first birthday Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Jim Ryan addressed historic demand for the PS5 in a PlayStation.Blog post. Ryan admitted that “inventory constraints remain a source of frustration for our customers” and said that Sony is “laser-focussed” on shipping as many console units as possible.
It all sounds very positive but the truth is, the company expects to produce one million fewer consoles 15 million, rather than 16 million in the financial year ending March 2022.
With the emergence of the Omicron COVID-19 variant, it seems that chip shortages are set to continue this year and possibly beyond.
In early 2022, Sony decided to keep manufacturing PS4 consoles. The company intends to make an extra one million PS4 machines to compensate for the lack of PS5 stock. It’s certainly one way to tackle the problem.

In the spring, Conrad is said to be offering the PS5 again, fan reports from the online community forum refer to an alleged availability at a branch in Munich. AsGoodasNew does offer used consoles, but the prices are around 800 euros. You can also get a new PS5 on eBay for less money. Therefore, you should rather look for a console there. However, check whether the seller is trustworthy and preferably pay via PayPal.

Playstation 5 Price: Cheaper Digital Edition
There are two versions of the PlayStation 5: one with a disc drive and one without. It’s a strategy could well prove crucial for the next console generation it lets Sony keep at least one model more affordable while still offering a more fully-featured PS5.
Unlike the approach taken by Microsoft with the Xbox Series X and Series S, the full-fat, disc-playing PlayStation 5 and the more affordable, disc-less PlayStation 5 Digital Edition enjoy performance parity, with the optical drive the only difference between the two machines.
We predicted that the PS5 Digital Edition would dip below the magic £400 barrier, while the version with the disc drive might be more like £499 , and Sony has actually trumped our expectations in the UK at least.
Last year, the PS5 shed around 300g in weight. The updated version, which boasts a lighter heatsink, is available now in most parts of the world. If you want to check which version you have, the original PS5 serial model numbers are: CF1016A and CFI-1015B . The new PS5 numbers are: CFI-1116A and CFI-1100B .
In early 2022, rumours of a PS5 Pro began circulating online. A reliable video report by gaming analyst RedGamingTechsuggests that Sony is readying a more powerful version of the PS5 for a late 2023 or early-to-mid 2024 release. Let’s hope we can actually buy it.

Sony PlayStation 5’s Showcase Event was held on September 16, 2020. It revealed the official price and other launch details of the PS5. The event revolved around new exclusive titles and announcements.

What Is The Dualsense Edge Controller
Initially revealed at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, DualSense Edge is a high-end controller that appears to be Sony’s answer to Xbox’s Elite controller range. A PS Blog entry has detailed the highly customisable controller, which allows you to set bespoke control mappings and even deactivate specific buttons.
Visually, the controller is very much alligned with the normal DualSense, but with a few extra elements to bring it up to premium standards. As with the Xbox controller, you can expect swappable thumb stick caps and adjustable dead zones.

‘gotham Knights’ Launch Time Download Size And Pre

Which Version Should You Buy
To date, Sony has released 2 different versions of the PlayStation 5: the standard model and an all-digital option that lacks an optical disc drive. The digital version is $150 cheaper but you won’t be able to play physical games or Blu-ray/DVD movies. Instead, all media needs to be streamed or downloaded through an Internet connection.
With the exception of the disc slot, the 2 versions are identical beneath the hood. If you rarely use physical media, then the all-digital version might be worth considering to save some money. However, if you like watching Blu-ray movies and don’t want to clutter your home entertainment unit with a DVD player, go for the standard edition.
In the second half of 2021, Sony released a revised version of both consoles. The chassis and components are identical with the exception of a smaller heatsink. This results in a physically lighter console at the expense of temperature. It reportedly runs hotter than the original version, although this shouldn’t affect the overall reliability. If you’re buying a new PS5 now, it will likely be the version with a smaller heatsink.

John Lewis & Partners restocks the console very infrequently, usually once every six to eight weeks. Restocks dont tend to last very long, but they do always seem to drop between 7am and 8am in the morning. Restocks have been lasting longer since the retailer started bundling the console with other accessories and games, bumping up the price.
The retailer only appears to get a couple of thousand consoles or less each time new stock comes in, so were not expecting anything big the next time theres a drop of the standalone console. When it happens, we recommend checking out via the app people have seen more success through this method.

PlayStation 5 pre-orders are open, but the situation is a bit of a disaster. When Sony announced pricing details for its next-generation game console on Wednesdayconfirming that the standard PS5 would cost $499, while a Digital Edition without a disc drive would cost $399it officially stated that preorders would begin on Thursday, September 17. The company did not specify when or where these orders would be available, however, merely saying that eager customers could pick the device up at “select retailers.”
The period since has been chaos. Major retailers like Walmart, Target, and Best Buy instead made the console available a few hours after Sony’s game showcase on Wednesday. This naturally led to a rush of gamers flooding these storefronts in order to secure their own machine in time for its November 12 release date, which in turn resulted in broken links, site crashes, and extremely quick stock shortages. GameStop saw enough traffic for its site to trigger some sort of DDoS protection, while Best Buy’s online store was intermittently inaccessible Thursday morning.
But we realize that many people are already sold on Sony’s next-gen pitch. If that’s you, feel free to bookmark this page in case the console becomes more readily available again.

The DualSense Edge includes adjustable trigger hair locks on the back of the device, similar to the Elite line. This means you can adjust the travel distance of the controllers triggers, which is useful when playing competitive shooters or when you want to minimize the dead zone while playing racing games.
How Specs Impact The Ps5 Price
Hoping for a slightly lower PS5 price? We hear you. However, it’s actually fair value when you break everything down. If we were to build the PS5 from components that are on the market right now, it’d be much, much more expensive.
Let’s look at the GPU first. Right now, you’d be staring down the barrel of an RTX 2080 equivalent graphics card to handle ray tracing at any kind of decent frame rate or resolution. To produce ray tracing at 4K – before we even get to the 8K Sony has promised – you’d need a powerful chip like a Radeon VII, or whatever the Navi equivalent will be inside the PS5. Want it to hit 30 frames per-second and medium-high settings? You’d be looking at $800 / £600+ at a minimum.
Now, onto that SSD. If you go bargain hunting right this second, you’ll pay $350 / £300-ish for a 1TB NVMe SSD from the likes of Samsung. Yes, you can go cheaper, but Sony is claiming that the PS5’s SSD will outperform all current PC SSDs. As such, $350 / £300 or more is about right.
With that in mind, we’re already looking at $1,000 / £1,000+ build. And that’s before you take other parts into account. We assume 32GB of RAM at a minimum, a Ryzen 7 equivalent CPU with 8 cores , and all the cooling, power, wireless tech, and casing required to keep everything together. That’s another $500 – $800 / £400 – £700 at least.
