List Of Ps4 Games That Dont Work On Playstation 5

How To Play PS1 PS2 PS3 Games On PlayStation 5 – PS5 Backwards Compatibility Guide.

While most PS4 games can be played on the PS5, there are some PS4-only titles. Here are the ones Sony mentions on its website.

  • Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One
  • TT Isle of Man Ride on the Edge 2
  • Just Deal With It!
  • Shadwen
  • Joes Diner

The good news is that this list hasnt grown at all in the last few months. Hopefully this means that the rest of Sonys titles will continue to receive compatibility support.

Sony Just Confirmed That The Ps5 Will Not Run Games Older Than Ps4

  • The biggest question about PS5 backwards compatibility has finally been answered.
  • Sony conceded that the PS5 will not run PS3, PS2, or PS1 games, as it did not have time to implement the feature. The PS5 will run 99% of the existing PS4 collection.
  • Microsoft wins the backwards compatibility battle again, as the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S can run older Xbox 360 and original Xbox games in addition to Xbox One titles.

Sony confirmed earlier this week that the PlayStation 5 will run 99% of PS4 games without addressing older hardware in the process. The new Xbox Series X and Series S can run not only all Xbox One games but also older games that were created for Xbox 360 and the original Xbox. That seemed to be a massive win for Microsoft, especially if youre the kind of gamer who owns a considerable collection of games, or who wants to try older games on the new system. Even though there are plenty of PS4 games to play on the PS5 models, some PlayStation fans cant be happy. Since then, Sony made it clear that there wont be support for PS3, PS2, and PS1 games on the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition, putting an end to backward compatibility speculations.

The news came directly from PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan, who spoke with Famitsu about the next-gen console.

Ryan said the PS5 did not have enough time to implement backwards compatibility for the older systems.

This Is A Patent For Software That May Make It Possible In The Future

While most games for the PS4 can be played on the PS5, this may touch on an old sore point. Previously, games for the PlayStation 1, 2, and 3 are unable to be played on the PS4 due to issues with compatibility. Before, all games on the PlayStation system had been able to be played on previous consoles. While some games have been since remastered and are able to play for newer consoles, this doesnt apply to all games.

But, this may no longer be a problem. A Twitter user was able to find a patent by Sony that had backward compatibility in its title. To be specific, the name of the patent is: Backward Compatibility Through Use Of Spoof Clock And Fine Grain Frequency Control. This means that this patent could be an application on the PlayStation 5 that could use, so other applications on a different standard frequency clock could work.

New patent sure@sounds like hes nailed BC for older #PlayStation consoles

Resident Evil Code: Veronica X

There were a number of Resident Evil games that released on the PS2 during the console’s lifespan, but only one of them has made it to the PS4 and PS5 digital library. This is none other than Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, the enhanced version of the original Code: Veronica which includes some extra content and game modes for fans to try out. While a Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake may or may not ever happen, fans can thankfully still play through the game on modern consoles.

Is The Ps5 Backward Compatible With Ps3 And Ps4 Games

The PS5 Will Play PS4, PS3, PS2 & PS1 Games

Backward compatibility with previous console games is one of the key selling points of any new console.

New consoles are almost always not cheap and the backward compatibility features give potential next-gen console buyers extra value for the money they spend.

Thats why the question of whether the PS5 is backward compatible with PS3 and PS4 games has been asked by many PlayStation gamers.

To answer it, just like with the PS2, you can only play digital PS3 games on the PS5 because the PS5 does not support PS3 game discs.

The digital PS3 games are also available on PlayStation Now.

Sony did a much better job of making PlayStation 4 games compatible with the PS5.

Working with PS game publishers and developers, Sony has made most PS4 games playable on the PS5.

Currently, over 4,000 PS4 game disc and digital titles can be seamlessly played on the PS5.

On its website, Sony only lists a few game titles that are exclusive to the PS4. These titles are:

  • Just Deal With It!
  • Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One
  • Robinson: The Journey
  • TT Isle of Man Ride on the Edge 2
  • Hitman Go: Definitive Edition

This PS4 only list has been on the website for several months now and hasnt grown,

So, we can assume the PS5 will support the remaining PS4 titles.

As with the PS2 games playable on the PS5, PS3 and PS4 games will have higher frame rates and resolution when played on the PS5 because of the next-gen consoles improved tech.

Xbox Series S Can Play Ps2 Games While The Ps5 Cant

Perhaps the best reason to get a Series S

Heres something the Xbox Series S can do that the PlayStation 5 cant: run classic PlayStation 2 games.

This is all thanks to the Series S Developer Mode, which allows users to install software that utilise Universal Windows Platform apps, such as the RetroArch emulator. Besides the PS2, the emulator also allows users to run games from other legacy systems, like Dreamcast, GameCube and Wii.

YouTube channel Modern Vintage Gamer has since released a video showing the Xbox Series S running various PS2 classics and exclusives using the PCSX2 emulator through RetroArch. The games shown running on the system include the original God Of War, Silent Hill 2, Ico and more.

Watch the video of the Series S running PS2 games below.

PCSX2 in RetroArch is currently still very much in active development and the builds that are out there have some bugs lots of them in fact, Modern Vintage Gamer noted in the video. If you think about it, outside of PlayStation, this is the first time that PS2 games are running on a console system.

Its also likely that the Xbox Series X, the higher-end counterpart of the Series S, will also be able to run PS2 games through Developer Mode. However, Modern Vintage Gamer noted that they were unable to test that out as they do not have a Series X in their possession.

Looking Forward To Backward Compatibility

How To PLAY PS1, PS2, PS3 & PS4 Games on PlayStation 5

What is BC? It is a term used in the gaming industry, predominantly when it comes to the most popular consoles Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox. It denotes whether the newest consoles will be able to run games made for the previous generations, or not.

Sony, in particular, ran into heavy criticism during their announcement of the PS4 years ago. That was because the then-new console wouldnt allow owners to play PS3, PS2, or PS1 games on it.

Pictured above is the PS logo confirmed by Sony.

It would seem that Sony learned from their mistakes and have claimed that cross-gen and backward compatibility have received more focus and care this time around. As it stands, Sony confirmed that the newest console would support at least PlayStation 4 games. That would allow players who arent able to upgrade right away to keep playing with their friends who are. It will come as great news to those who may be intimidated by the price tag.

As for the consoles potential ability to run PS3 games or even older titles, there have been no official mentions so far. If the console launches with support only for PS4 games, then Sonys PS Now service will remain the only option to play titles from the pre-PS4 times. As for what the future will reveal, we must stay patient.

Sonys PlayStation series of gaming consoles have a lot going for them. You get a consistent controller layout, meaning you dont need to re-learn which buttons are where with every generation.

You also get access to many high-quality games that can only be played on PlayStation devices.

Moving from the original PlayStation to the PlayStation 2, one of the big benefits was being able to play old games on the new system.

This set a precedent where, to this day, gaming console buyers often expect backwards compatibility with older games in newer systems.

Play Ps2 Games On Ps3

The PlayStation 3 is Sonys last backwards-compatible gaming console, at least in the traditional sense.

That said, just because you have a PlayStation 3 doesnt mean you can necessarily play PS2 games on it. Thats because different PS3 models have different levels of backwards compatibility.

You might be aware that backwards compatibility for PS2 games was dropped when Sony moved from the original fat PlayStation 3 to the PlayStation 3 Slim. But backwards compatibility was ALSO dropped from certain fat models as well.

How can you tell if your PS3 can play PS2 games? One way is to pop a PS2 game into the disc slot and hope for the best. Another way is to count the USB ports on your PS3.

If your PS3 only has two USB ports, we regret to inform you that it is NOT backwards compatible with PS2 games.

If your PS3 has four USB ports, it IS backwards compatiblebut the degree to which its backwards compatible depends on the specific model of your PS3.

The models with most backwards compatibility are:

  • PS3 with 60GB storage + serial number starting with A
  • PS3 with 20GB storage + serial number starting with B

If your PS3 has four USB ports and a serial number starting with C, D, or E, then you MAY be able to play some PS2 games. All you can do is insert a PS2 disc and see if it plays.

Ps5 Backwards Compatibility: Can You Play Ps1 Games

No, you can’t play PS1 games on PS5. This includes PS1 game discs and PS1 Classics that you may have purchased on PS3 or PSP in the past. There are a few PS4 remasters like PaRappa the Rapper and MediEvil that you’ll be able to play on PS5, as well as Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Spyro Reignited Trilogy. However, at this time you won’t be able to play the original PS1 games on PS5.

Microsoft Does What Sony Doesnt

Teraflop

In case you havent heard, people have been stretching the developer mode of the Xbox Series X/S to its limit. And its only been a few weeks.

Amazingly, intrepid and plucky users have managed to get tons of old games running on the systems, most notably PS2 games. The below clip from the Modern Vintage Gamer shows off the power of its emulation capabilities just fine, using the dev mode option in the new Xbox consoles: a 2016 Xbox One feature. The new horizon of PS2 games is due to developments within RetroArch, which just recently added PS2 support and is still in active development.

Modern Vintage Gamer assesses that the level of emulation offered in the Series S, for the $299.99 base price, is unrivaled. Given that you dont really need all of that SSD space for emulation, nor would you need to build a PC capable of running these games Id agree. Just know that, like Modern Vintage Gamer suggests, this isnt a set it and forget it process. You do need to do a bit of diligence to get this up and running.

This whole process is in its infancy, and proponents suggest that nearly anything is possible with Series X/S emulation. The only limitations right now are a 2GB ROM size maximum, which could change down the line. As a proponent of game preservation, its a big step forward to keeping the classics alive without digging out old hardware thats prone to malfunctioning mishaps.
