PS5 is upon us, although most stores have extremely limited stock, so act fast at these retailers.
It’s now December 2021, and despite the PS5 being “available” in Australia for over 12 months, it’s still virtually impossible to find. Given our proximity to Christmas, there’s every chance the major retailers will dole out some drops between now and 2022, but competition to secure them will be fierce, and if you want them before Christmas you may not have luck.
Still, while stock allocations are rare they do happen, so you’ll need to stay vigilant, as stock is likely to remain low into early 2022. When stock does appear, it tends not to last long, though we have our fingers crossed there will be a bit of a megadrop in the lead up to Christmas.
So yeah, PS5 stock replenishment is a fairly scattershot affair in Australia. Some retailers have been known to provide a few days advance notice, such as what Big W did in February , but more often than not they just appear. If there’s a local bricks-and-mortar store near you, it might be worth joining their waiting list, if they have one.
But the sad reality is that you’ll probably need to check the PS5 pages on each retailer’s site manually if you want a console right now: all relevant retailers are listed below. We’ll also update the top of this page occasionally when we get advance warning of a drop.

Previously, Best Buy PS5 restocks required that your refresh the product page until you see the yellow “add to cart” button or a grey “please wait” button. However, Best Buy’s new process places you in a queue. A pop-up windows says it’ll “verify your account” and check for inventory. So, it pays to sign into your account asap.

Even GameStop has a premium membership that lets you skip to the front of the PS5 line: PowerUp Rewards Pro. That membership costs $15 a year, though it does offer a $10 reward on signup, plus a $5 credit to spend every month. PowerUp Rewards Pro members also get 2% back in rewards.

Mid-April was a busy time for PS5 restocks, as we saw consoles available at Walmart, GameStop, Amazon, Best Buy, and PS Direct. All of those restocks predictably sold out rather quickly, but it was nice to see a flurry of PS5 restocks following a quiet period over the last month or so. Also, if you’re not registered on PS Direct, make sure to to have a chance to participate in the next invite-only PS5 restock. Considering that PS5 restocks tend to come in waves every couple of weeks, we wouldn’t be surprised to see another flurry of restocks in the next week or so. We already know that Walmart will have a PS5 restock on June 2.

Target PS5 restock dates have been hard to nail down. That’s because the retailer tends to drop inventory in certain regions. For instance, someone in Chicago could see PS5 inventory at their local store, whereas a New Yorker might not see any inventory whatsoever. In addition, Target tends to do early morning restocks that occur around 8 a.m. ET. That said, their last restock sold out in minutes.

When restocks sell out, the going price for PS5 consoles can cost hundreds more than you would usually pay. Because there are no regular-priced PS5s at Best Buy and other retailers, we searched for some of the cheaper options. Stock X, for example, has consoles for around $730 and up, which is a bit cheaper than some of the other websites. Ebay is another resource for PS5 consoles for $500 and up.

Walmart Restock Event Tips And Tricks
The first thing you’ll want to do is create a Walmart.com account if you don’t already have one. Enter your address and credit card info so that in the event you score a console, you can quickly checkout. You’ll also want to know the correct landing pages for the PS5 at Walmart. .
Once the consoles are available at Walmart you’ll have to act lightning fast to secure a console and purchase it. However, it’s worth noting that Walmart tends to release inventory every 10 to 15 minutes. So if you don’t score a console on your first try, keep trying. Generally speaking, Walmart restocks have lasted from 1 hour to as long as 3 hours. So it pays to stick around and keep trying.
Many have reported that adding the PS5 to a shopping list has helped them score a PS5. To do this, sign into your Walmart account and go to the PS5 product page at Walmart. Click the “add to list” icon underneath the console’s image. You’ll then be prompted to create a name for your wish list.
The next time Walmart has PS5 restock, you should be able to add the console to your cart via your wish list (instead of going to the product page and waiting for it to show up in stock. Again, your mileage may vary with this tactic, but it’s worked in the past.
If refuse to sign up for Walmart Plus, dont give up hope. We’re bound to see more restocks throughout the coming weeks, but keep in mind that most drops nowadays are behind a membership paywall.

Unfortunately, one of the main reasons for the shortage of PS5 consoles is due to scalpers. These opportunistic people have been using bots to scan retailers for PS5 stock when it becomes available and buy as many of the consoles as they can in one go.
Once they have the highly-desirable console, they will then sell them for extortionate prices, often for thousands of dollars. Business Insider reported one reseller managed to get hold of 200 PS5 consoles and managed to sell them for more than $40,000.
While this isnt illegal, its not exactly the most morally sound thing to do. But at least its not as bad as some people whove been pretending to sell PS5 consoles on eBay by simply posting photos of the console and scamming people to bid for them when there was no PS5 on offer.
It might seem absurd to buy a PS5 for over $1,000, especially as its launch game lineup isnt particularly profound. But with the coronavirus pandemic seeing more people staying at home, some PlayStation fans are clearly desperate to get their hands on a new console to keep them entertained.
We advise you avoid buying from such resellers, fake or otherwise. At $499 the PS5 is still quite an expensive console and it currently doesn’t have a huge library of games. So if you can wait until later this year, youre likely to have a lot more PS5 games to choose from and Sony should have more consoles available.
