Since the release of the PS4 in 2013, manufacturers have been developing third-party alternatives to the official DualShock 4 controller, some offering an asymmetrical form factor similar to the Xbox controller while others are tailored towards eSports with rear-facing triggers, improved switches and even the removal of the rumble motor.
As you might guess, some of these controllers arent cheap, especially custom ones from the likes of Scuff, so what happens to them when you upgrade to the PS5? Can you use your collection of DualShock 4 controllers on your shiny new console? The simple answer is yes and no it all depends on what youll be doing.
Which Games Work With The Ps4 Controller On Ps5
The PS4 DualShock 4 controller works with any compatible PS4 games on the PlayStation 5. It will work exactly like it did on the PS4. Since the DualSense controller has had some reported issues, especially charging problems, the DualShock 4 may even be the preferred controller when playing any backwards compatible PS4 titles.
The PS4 DualShock 4 controller also has to be used when playing PSVR. Because all PSVR titles are currently on PS4, it means the older controller has to be used.
