Ps5s Previously Fixed Ps4 Disc Installation Bug Is Seemingly Back

How to properly put a Ps4 Disc into a Ps4

Users report the bug is back after a recent system update

Jordan Middler

A PS5 disc installation bug seems to have reappeared after having previously been fixed.

According to several users across multiple subreddits, players who insert disc versions of games and choose the PS5 upgrade have had the PS4 version attempt to install to their console unprompted.

Titles affected include No Mans Sky, the recently released Death Stranding Directors Cut and Nioh.

While this doesnt stop players from using the PS5 version, it will take up storage space on the console, which players will have to manually delete.

How To Fix It When A Ps4 Wont Take Read Or Eject A Disc

If you’re having disc handling issues with your PS4 and it won’t take, read, or eject a game or movie disc, use these troubleshooting steps to get it working again.

Some of these steps pertain specifically to one issue, like a disc that won’t eject. If a step isn’t relevant to the problem you are experiencing, you can skip it.

  • Make sure there isn’t a disc in your PS4. If you aren’t able to insert a disc into your system, try pushing the eject button on the front of the console. You may have forgotten that you put a game or movie in, or someone might have put one in without your knowledge. If a game ejects, you should be able to insert the one that you wanted to play.

  • Reboot your PS4. There’s a chance that you may be dealing with a minor temporary bug, in which case shutting down and restarting your PS4 might fix the problem. If your console starts accepting, reading, and ejecting discs after a reboot, you can use it like you normally would, and only return to this list if it starts acting up again.

  • Try using the manual eject screw. If you’re trying to eject a disc from your PS4 and nothing happens, or you’re unsure if there is a disc in the system, then you can use the manual eject screw to remove anything that’s currently in the drive and start fresh.

To use a PS4 manual eject screw:

  • Turn off the PS4, and unplug all of the cables.
  • Remove the HDD cover or top panel if necessary.
  • Locate the manual eject screw.
  • Tighten the screw to eject the disc.

Instructables highlights a simple tip for making CDs and DVDs with scratches readable again. Simply take a cotton ball and dip it in some alcohol to clean the area near the scratch. Then apply Vaseline or Petroleum Jelly to the disc. The Vaseline will fill in the scratch, hopefully making it readable again.

How Will I Know What’s Wrong With My Ps4 Disc

You generally won’t know exactly what the problem is until you go through a few steps toward fixing it first, which can be irritating when you’re trying to play one of the best PS4 games in your collection. If your PS4 doesn’t accept a disc, there could be myriad factors involved, both on the hardware and software front.

Whether it’s the former or the latter plaguing you with problems, you can fix it yourself either way to an extent. I wouldn’t recommend completely gutting your PS4, but there are ways to take it apart and make minor adjustments that could prove to be the solution if cleaning your disc or restarting the console doesn’t work.

How To Eject A Ps4 Disc Using A Button

How To Insert Disc In Ps4

The main way that most people will use to eject a disc on PS4 will be to use the button on their PS4. The thing is, its not always in the same place, and it depends entirely on what kind of PS4 you have.

On an original PS4, the button is essentially invisible, but its the bottom vertical line on the front of your console. Push this and youll eject the disc.

The slim version of the PS4 is on the lower of the two horizontal slits across the front of your PS4 on the right-hand side.

The PS4 Pro has the button on the left-hand side at the front, and its a tiny little button next to the power one. At least its marked properly.
