Can I Appeal My Psn Suspension
Every suspension on PlayStation Network is the result of a thorough investigation by PlayStation Safety staff. As a result, suspensions are final and cannot be appealed unless:
You have been suspended for an account debt. This will be lifted once you have paid off the balance. For more information, please visit the PlayStation Network suspension for account debt guide.
If your account was permanently suspended you may be eligible to appeal the suspension.
What happens if my account or console is suspended?
If your account is suspended, you will not be able to access PlayStation Network. That means you will not be able to use some products and services, even ones you paid for.
If your console is suspended you will not be able to connect to PlayStation Network with any account.
How can I manage my subscriptions if my account is suspended?
If you are suspended, the following settings will not be available to you:
- Add/Remove a Payment Method
- Turn On/Off Auto Renew for subscription products.
We will never take automatic payment for a subscription from a suspended account. If a subscription payment is due while your account is suspended, we will not attempt to take payment and your subscription will lapse.
In the event that you would like to make changes to your subscription settings while your account is suspended, you will need to contact us.
Can a second-hand PlayStation console suspension be lifted?
Didnt This Happen To Sony Once Before
Not exactly. Sonys PlayStation Network was hacked back in 2011, at which point the perpetrators absconded with some 77 million user accounts, prompting Sony to shutter the service for over three weeks.
As noted above, yesterdays DDoS attack was a brute force attempt to take Sonys servers offline, not an intrusion hack, and according to Sony, no sensitive information was taken.
The Return Of Psn And The Results Of The Hacking Incident
PSN’s hacking incident concerned the mainstream media once information entered the picture. And then the United States government got involved: Sony was called before a House of Representatives hearing on “The Threat of Data Theft to American Consumers” . Sony detailed plans to reimburse its users for the damage and inconvenience of the PSN downtime with “complimentary identity theft protection to U.S. account holders and detailed the ‘Welcome Back’ program that includes free downloads, 30 days of free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium subscription service 30 days of free service for Music Unlimited subscribers and extending PlayStation Plus and Music Unlimited subscriptions for the number of days services were unavailable” . Finally, after nearly a month, PlayStation Network began coming back online in stages on May 14, 2011 with system update 3.61. PSN users were required to change their passwords when they logged onto the service for the first time since April 20, 2011.

Change To Terms And Conditions
It has been suggested that a change to the PSN terms and conditions announced on September 15, 2011, was motivated by the large damages being claimed by class action suits against Sony, in an effort to minimise the company’s losses. The new agreement required users to agree to give up their right to sue Sony over any future security breach, without first trying to resolve legal issues with an arbitrator. This included any ongoing class action suits initiated prior to August 20, 2011.
Another clause, which removed a user’s right to trial by jury should the user opt out of the clause , says:
If the Class Action Waiver clause is found to be illegal or unenforceable, this entire Section 15 will be unenforceable, and the dispute will be decided by a court and you and the Sony Entity you have a dispute with each agree to waive in that instance, to the fullest extent allowed by law, any trial by jury.
Sony guaranteed that a court of law in the respective country, in this case the US, would hold jurisdiction in regards to any rules or changes in the Sony PSN ToS:
Did Whoever Brought The Psn Down Manage To Steal Anything
A DDoS attack isnt a hack in the strictest sense of the word: Its a brute assault on a servers ability to service requests. Sony social media manager Sid Shuman says, We have seen no evidence of any intrusion to the network and no evidence of any unauthorized access to users personal information.
In other words, as far as we know , no sensitive information was accessed or compromised.

How Playstation Network Works
In late 2002, the world of console video games changed forever when Sony and Microsoft launched networks for online gaming on their PlayStation 2 and Xbox platforms. These weren’t the first consoles to connect to the Internet: Sega’s Dreamcast included a built-in dial-up modem three years before, and even before the Internet existed, Nintendo was serving up downloadable content to its Japanese Super Famicom system in 1995 via a satellite modem called the Satellaview .
Microsoft had built up buzz for its Xbox Live service since their console launched in 2001. The Xbox’s Ethernet port was ready and waiting for a broadband connection, and Xbox Live’s yearly subscription fee bought gamers an exclusive Gamertag and friends list they could access in any Live-enabled game. Xbox Live was Microsoft’s big push into the game console business Microsoft had a well-developed plan for the integration of their console and their online presence. Sony wasn’t quite so organized with its networked entertainment offering. In early 2002 the company casually announced a strategy to launch its network adapter in the fall, right around the same time as Xbox Live. Sony’s approach had its own advantages and disadvantages: There would be no subscription fee like Xbox Live, but also no unifying infrastructure. All this background is important, because it closely resembles the exact same scenario Microsoft and Sony were in when they launched their follow-up consoles, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Was Sony The Only Company Affected By The Ddos Attack
No. While the lions share of media attention has been on Sony, probably due to the simultaneous bomb scare, several other gaming-related services, including Microsofts Xbox Live and Blizzards Battle.net, were reportedly disrupted over the weekend.
Microsoft, for instance, reports that access to its Social and Gaming services are limited .
Blizzard posted the following note: Battle.net game services have recently been subject to DDoS attacks. We worked diligently along with our ISPs to improve the situation and currently are seeing more stability. We appreciate your patience.
Gamasutra notes that both Riots League of Legends and Grinding Gears Path of Exile were also targeted, resulting in those services going down.

Delayed Warning Of Possible Data Theft
On April 26 nearly a week after the outage, Sony confirmed that it “cannot rule out the possibility” that personally identifiable information such as PlayStation Network account username, password, home address, and email address had been compromised. Sony also mentioned the possibility that credit card data was takenafter claiming that encryption had been placed on the databases, which would partially satisfy PCI Compliance for storing credit card information on a server.Subsequent to the announcement on both the official blog and by e-mail, users were asked to safeguard credit card transactions by checking bank statements. This warning came nearly a week after the initial “external intrusion” and while the Network was turned off.
Some disputed this explanation and queried that if Sony deemed the situation so severe that they had to turn off the network, Sony should have warned users of possible data theft sooner than on April 26. Concerns have been raised over violations of PCI Compliance and the failure to immediately notify users. US SenatorRichard Blumenthal wrote to Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Jack Tretton questioning the delay.
Sony replied in a letter to the subcommittee:
How Do I Know When The Playstation Network Is Down
Sony has a website dedicated to the service status of PSN. If all services are up and running, you should be good to go. Sometimes only a specific service like accessing your games and social will be down. This may not be updated right away, so it’s also smart to check the PlayStation subreddit to see if anyone else is reporting issues. If the service is down for everyone, you’ll hear about it on social media.
Alternatively, you’ll know when you try to log in to your account and suddenly can’t connect to anything or play any games.

Whats This Im Hearing About Sony And A Bomb Scare
Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley, traveling on August 24 by commercial plane from Dallas-Fort Worth to San Diego, had taken to Twitter to let people know Sony was battling the DDoS avalanche Sunday morning.
But someone, though at this point no one knows who precisely, claimed the American Airlines Boeing 757 Smedley was on contained explosives, prompting its diversion to Phoenix.
The plane landed uneventfully in Phoenix on Sunday and as far as anyone knows, no explosives were found on the plane.
What Does It Mean When The Playstation Network Is Busy
Unfortunately for PlayStation users , it means that players can’t use any of the online features available even though the games they have already installed should be available to them. This means no online gameplay, no updates about your favorite games basically, you can’t access anything that requires an internet connection.
When this happens, PlayStation is typically quiet about why it occurs. The company is usually quick to let fans know when aspects of their platform won’t be available for things like maintenance, so unless you see such a message from PlayStation, it’s safe to say the network being busy isn’t part of the plan.
On Thursday, July 22, 2021, a widespread internet outage affected more than 40,000 PlayStation users, as well as Steam store customers. The outage wasn’t limited just to video game fans, either multiple bank websites, the New York Metro Transportation Authority, and even some 911 emergency systems were also affected. Luckily, service was restored before too long and if you’re seeing the “PlayStation Network is busy” sign, chances are you won’t have to wait too long, either.

Try Changing The Mtu Value On Your Ps4
The main solution that has been known to work sometimes in allowing PS4 users to circumvent PSN outages has been to change the MTU settings on your PS4. This method allowed some users, though not all, to get around the outage in late 2014.
Why this is the case in unclear, but it did work for some people. It is worth giving a go. Here are the general steps for changing the MTU value on your PS4:
- Go to Settings..Network..Set Up Internet Connection
- Select Wi-Fi or LAN depending on your connection.
- Click Custom
- Click through all the setting as they are without changing them, until you get to MTU Settings.
- For MTU, switch to Manual
- Enter 1453 or 1473 for the MTU value. If one doesnt work, try the other.
- You can also try other values from 1450 upwards if you want. See also our article on the best MTU for gaming for a more precise method of finding your optimal MTU value.
- Finish Setup and Test Connection. The PS4 should now be able to get online.
NB. If the Network Sign in on the Connection Test still fails after you put in the new MTU value, then dont worry, just attempt to sign back into PSN manually and it usually works. The rest of the connection test usually runs through as normal after making this change.
There are also other networking settings you can change on your router and PS4 which can get you back online, but these are more solutions for home networking or ISP errors than errors with PSN itself. Here are some other things you can do:
Is There Anything I Can Do And How Do I Fix This
If the entire PlayStation Network is down, there isn’t much you can do. You can try going offline to access your games that way, but that may not work in every case and it certainly won’t allow you to play multiplayer. Also, to play your digital games offline, the console you are using must be set as the primary system tied to your account.
The problem isn’t always PSN, though it may be your internet. If this is the case, try resetting your router and reconnecting your system to your Wi-Fi network. You can perform an internet connection test by going to Settings> Network> Test Internet Connection on your console. If that doesn’t cut it, you may also want to consider connecting your PS4 or PS5 to the internet with an Ethernet cable.
Troubleshooting online connection problems on PS5 usually doesn’t take too long. And if it doesn’t work, you’ll know that the problem is on Sony’s end.

Check The Status Of The Playstation Network
It is also a good idea to check around online and on social media for any other reports of PSN being down. If its a widespread problem, youll be sure to hear about it very soon on social media and other channels.
You can check the current status of PSN here. It will auto-redirect to give you the status of the network in the country you are based in. Sometimes the Playstation Network can be down in some countries and regions and fine in others.
Here are some other social media channels to check in with for updates when the Playstation Network is down:
Use these links to keep up to date with what is happening with the PSN in your area. If its a more general outage affecting lots of people, it will be very quickly become obvious and Sony will be onto it trying to fix it ASAP.
Sometimes however, all the official channels will show PSN as online even when its not for a lot of people. Again you will hear about this very quickly through more unofficial channels.
Inability To Use Playstation 3 Content
While most games remained playable in their offline modes, the PlayStation 3 was unable to play certain Capcom titles in any form. Streaming video providers throughout different regions such as Hulu, Vudu, Netflix and LoveFilm displayed the same maintenance message. Some users claimed to be able to use Netflix’s streaming service but others were unable.

Connecting To Playstation Network
Two different systems can connect to the PlayStation Network: Sony’s home console, the PlayStation 3, and its handheld system, the PlayStation Portable. In 2012, that list will expand to include the PSP’s follow-up, the PS Vita. When Sony launches a successor to the PlayStation 3 , it will be able to connect to PSN as well — but for right now, the PS3 home console is the primary gateway to Sony’s online service. The PS3 hardware includes a built-in 802.11b/g wireless adapter for connecting to a WiFi network and an Ethernet port for accepting a hardline broadband connection.
Connecting to the PlayStation Network on a PS3 is simple: The XrossMediaBar , the console’s dashboard navigation system, provides access to network settings necessary for getting the system online. That process is as simple as connecting an Ethernet cord from a router to the PS3, or configuring the console to connect to a WiFi network. With Internet connectivity enabled, the second step is to navigate to the PSN section of the XMB and create a free account. This requires a valid e-mail address and a unique online ID of the user’s choosing . Once registered and logged into the PlayStation Network, users have access to everything we’ll cover in the remainder of this topic: online gaming, friends lists, the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Home.

Sony: Playstation Network Still Down Deal With It
11 years agoJim Sterling
Sony has made a fresh announcement concerning the PlayStation Networks status, announcing that it has nothing to announce concerning the PlayStation Networks status. Its still down, in case you couldnt gather that.
I know you are waiting for additional information on when PlayStation Network and Qriocity services will be online, said SCEAs Patrick Seybold. Unfortunately, I dont have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time.
As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and were working to get them back online quickly. Well keep you updated with information as it becomes available. We once again thank you for your patience.
