Disk-based games are an even simpler process. Just insert your PS4 disk into the PS5 disk drive, and it should start installing as normal. Select the game from the menu, and play as normal.

One major game that got an update was last year’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake. It came out in June, along with an expansion — Episode Intermission — featuring awesome ninja Yuffie Kisaragi. The next-gen update is free for current owners, but not if they got the game via PlayStation Plus in March. The Yuffie content also costs an extra $20 and is only available on PS5.
Another game that recently received the upgrade treatment was Doom Eternal. It adds graphics options for HDR 10, ray tracing and the ability to run at 120 frames per second, but you won’t be able to transfer your save from the PS4 version.

While PlayStation VR games will be supported on PS5, it will require an adapter for the PlayStation 4s camera, which Sony will provide at no cost through its website. This list likely won’t disappoint many people. None of these games are among the PS4’s greatest hitsin fact, the publisher of Afro Samurai 2 even removed it from the PS Store and issued refunds due to overwhelmingly negative reception.

SONY finally launched the PlayStation 5 on Thursday, leading excited fans to ponder what next-gen games they’ll play first.
Alongside a sterling roster of launch titles, the PS5 will also run a number of top PS4 games you may have otherwise missed.
The powerful machine is “99 per cent backwards compatible” with PS4 games, according to PlayStation boss Jim Ryan.
Sony has assured fans they can play an “overwhelming majority” of PS4’s 4,000+ games at launch.
That means blockbuster titles like The Last of Us 2, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Fortnite are available to play from day one.
You’re free to either download them if they’re linked to your PlayStation account, or stick in your old disc.
Unfortunately for gamers, Sony hasn’t published a confirmed list of backwards compatible games yet.
However, we do have a list of the handful of games that DON’T work on your PS5.
It’s safe to assume pretty much every PS4 game plays on the PS5 other than those below.

However one thing that should be considered is which PlayStation 5 you are buying.
This is because the PlayStation 5 digital edition will not be able to play any of your PlayStation 4 discs as it does not have a disc drive. However, your PS4 digital purchases should still work on PS5 without any issue.
