Sony Has Reportedly Blocked Playstation Plus And Ps Now Subscription Stacking

UPDATE: Sony confirms its disabled PlayStation subscription extensions ahead of service revamp

Tom Ivan

Sony has reportedly disabled PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now subscription stacking ahead of the upcoming revamp of the membership services.

A growing number of PS4 and PS5 owners have been unable to extend their memberships over the last few days, and the issue appears to be widespread based on messages sent to PlayStations official support channels and reports on forums including ResetEra.

While PlayStation has yet to officially comment on the matter, a number of affected users claim to have been informed by Sony customer support representatives that the company has temporarily blocked subscription stacking.

UPDATE 29/04/22

Do You Need The Mobile App

PlayStation NOW: 12

There is no mobile app that is dedicated solely to PS Now. In the official PlayStation app, you can click on a link that will take you to the PS Now page. There, you can browse through games currently available with a subscription. Once PS Now merges with the new PS Plus, youll be able to view all games currently available on the new service.

We did notice one strange quirk. Even with your PS Now subscription activated and recognized in the app, they will come up at full price when searching for games. When searching for a game in the PS Store on a PS5 console, it will list whether that game is included in a PS Now or PS Plus subscription.

Its a shame that the mobile app does not show you which games are included with your subscription once youve paid for it. Hopefully, Sony will build on these improvements soon.

What Are The Playstation Now Games

Though PlayStation Now has courted neither the good press of Xbox Game Pass nor the more negative impressions of Google Stadia, it does have its own claim to fame: its games list is enormous. While Stadia still struggles to climb above 30 games and Xbox Game Pass proudly boasts over 100 – and to its credit offers over 200 anyway – PS Nows library is more than 700 games strong, spanning PS2, PS3, and PS4.

While no PS3 games can be downloaded directly, plenty of PS2 and PS4 games can be, including PS4 favorites like GTA 5, Killzone Shadow Fall, and Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and PS2 classics like Red Faction, Dark Cloud, and Star Wars Jedi Starfighter. Many of PlayStation’s first-party titles are also available on PS Now, with the likes of Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition, God of War, and Bloodborne. Many Games Are Fully Downloadable On Ps Now

We all know a big problem with streaming games is that it depends on your internet connection.

If your internet isn’t all that great, then you’re going to run into multiple issues when streaming games, such as lag, performance issues, graphical bugs, and so on.

Thankfully, a huge amount of PS Now’s titles are fully downloadable, meaning that, as long as you’re subscribed, you’re playing the game as if you’ve digitally purchased it.

This removes any problems that might arise from your internet connection, letting you enjoy your chosen game at its best.

Ps Now: Recent Updates

HOW TO GET PLAYSTATION NOW MEMBERSHIP FREE! PS4/PS5 GLITCH (EASY) (WORKING 2021)

Unfortunately, PlayStation Now is no longer an active subscription being offered. Following rumors that Sony was planning a competitor to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass, the company unveiled a revamped PS Plus subscription service last April, which gradually began rolling out worldwide in June.

What Sony has done is essentially merge PS Now into PS Plus, and the new subscription feature three tiers called PlayStation Plus Essential, PlayStation Plus Extra, and PlayStation Plus Premium. If you had the old PS Plus subscription, that’ll equate to the Essential tier, and pricing will remain the same.

However, Extra offers an additional catalog of games, while Premium expands this and includes streaming for original PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 games. For territories with cloud streaming, PlayStation Plus Deluxe is available instead for a lower cost.

Ps Now: Design And Interface

Once you pick a game, the service will connect you to a remote server that will host your session. A few moments later and the game is up and running.

From there, it’s up to you to navigate the respective title’s own menu, settings, controls, and the like. The service doesn’t magically remaster old titles, though, so especially for older games like Ico or Rogue Galaxy, the visual quality will largely depend on how well your television upscales low-resolution content.

If you set up a streaming session, this means there’s no need to download the game though you can now do just that for the PS4 and PS2 libraries on the service. If you’d rather temporarily save a game to your hard drive and plough through it offline than rely on the strength of your broadband connection, the option is there.

PlayStation Now’s interface is incredibly simplistic, maybe overly so. After you get past the paywall titles are separated into categories with featured titles, usually grouped by genre, at the top.

Scrolling down, you’ll find more discrete categories, like 2D fighting games or JRPGs, for example. There are about a dozen categories to pick from, with some titles appearing in multiple categories.

After you pick a game from the list and play it for the first time, the game will appear on the home screen so that you can easily pick it up again in the future.

PlayStation Now hasn’t quite unfolded that way. That’s not to say that the service is bad, mind you. It’s just… different.

Playstation Plus: Everything You Need To Know As Sony Makes Big Changes

The subscription service adds more features, with a higher price.

    Oscar Gonzalez

Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription service for PS5 owners went through a major overhaul earlier this week. The new version brings together both of Sony’s previous PlayStation subscriptions, the original Plus service and the now-defunct PlayStation Now. The former offered online play and access to a handful of games the latter offered cloud streaming of some games.

The new single subscription, still called PlayStation Plus, combines online multiplayer, free monthly games and a standing game library available for download or streaming. That includes the games previously available on the old PS Now. Whether you just got a PS5 or are a long-time PS4 owner, here’s what you need to know about the service change.

PS Plus is required to play many multiplayer games online, and subscribers get access to new games each month at no extra cost. The now-defunct PS Now is the originator of modern console cloud gaming , although the service was not up to snuff when compared to its newer competitors.

Game subscriptions like PS Plus and Microsoft’s Game Pass offer a sizable library of games for a monthly fee. They can also get a bit confusing due to frequent changes in features and available games. PlayStation Plus is additionally split into three tiers, Essential, Extra and Premium, with different prices for each.

What Are The Alternatives To Ps Now

You’ll also need either a Mini-USB cable or a new USB Wireless Adaptor from Sony to connect the DualShock 4 controller to your PC.

    Is Playstation Now Worth It

With all that out of the way comes the most important question at all: Is it worth it? The answer: Yes. Usually. PlayStation Now doesnt make sense for those playing on the poles of the gaming community. Anyone who plays very few games, like those that just spend time with some sports titles or maybe the annual shooter of their choice dont need to subscribe to a library of hundreds of games. Likewise, those who already rigorously keep up with new releases month after month may discover even a library this big isnt hiding many gems you didnt already find. But for everyone else – and thats a vast majority – PS Now is a great way to play.

PS Now offers so many games from multiple eras of PlayStations history and gives players the option to stream or download games. If PlayStation is where you do most of your gaming and you hope to do a lot of it, assuming youve got a decent or better internet connection, PS Now is worth it.

    Ps Now: What We Disliked

It would’ve been great to escape the slog of buying games and returning them for half their value, but that doesn’t seem possible with PlayStation Now in its current state. Publishers haven’t taken to the idea of putting their latest wares on the service, instead opting to put up classics of varying quality.

The other major problem is that, depending on the strength of your connection, every once in awhile, lag can derail your perfect stream in a first-person shooter or send you careening into a wall in a driving game. Worst of all, if you get booted from your game, you can say goodbye to all the progress you made since your last save.

Is Playstation Now Compatible With Pc And Mac

New 2021 : How to get Playstation Now 7 Day Free Trial Subscription? Cancel Anytime

The short answer for Mac users is, sadly, no. PlayStation Now is not currently available on Mac. If youre playing on a Windows PC, however, youre in luck. Any Windows PC works with PS Now, though there is the slight catch that it doesnt allow for any downloading. That means if youre playing PS Now games on PC, youre guaranteed to be streaming them.

Some of the biggest PlayStation exclusives have made their way to PC in recent months, with the likes the God of War getting an official PC port. But if you don’t want to pay to pick up a copy on PC, many of these games are among the PS Now library.

Is Ps Now Worth It The Pros And Cons Of Playstation’s Game Streaming Service

PS Now is great for catching up on games from previous PlayStation generations. But is it worth your hard-earned cash?

PlayStation Now has been gathering more and more attention over the years, with Sony refining and improving its game streaming service.

But what benefits does PlayStation Now offer, and what is it missing? If you’ve had your eye on PS Now but haven’t made the leap yet, let’s inspect the game streaming platform.

    How Does It Work

PS Now is mainly a cloud-based service much like Netflix or Spotify, but for gaming. It hosts a wide collection of PS2, PS3 and PS4 titles . You can access them at your leisure, all through a PS Now app on your PlayStation 4 or PS5.

It uses technology acquired when Sony bought cloud gaming company Gakai and some of the technologies of the since-deceased OnLive. It allows you to play games that are not hosted on your own local console, but on massive servers elsewhere.

In a similar fashion to Xbox’s Project xCloud and , the video of the game is streamed over the internet to the display you are using, with controller commands and your actions sent the other way. This happens almost instantly, so the effect is similar to running them from your console’s storage.

Some PS4 games on the platform are available to download too, which work exactly like their equivalents bought from the digital PlayStation Store and are run from your console rather than remotely. You will need the hard drive space to install them and they only work while you continue to subscribe, but you will notice better graphical resolution and no lag or latency issues.
