Hoping for a slightly lower PS5 price? We hear you. However, it’s actually fair value when you break everything down. If we were to build the PS5 from components that are on the market right now, it’d be much, much more expensive.
Let’s look at the GPU first. Right now, you’d be staring down the barrel of an RTX 2080 equivalent graphics card to handle ray tracing at any kind of decent frame rate or resolution. To produce ray tracing at 4K – before we even get to the 8K Sony has promised – you’d need a powerful chip like a Radeon VII, or whatever the Navi equivalent will be inside the PS5. Want it to hit 30 frames per-second and medium-high settings? You’d be looking at $800 / £600+ at a minimum.
Now, onto that SSD. If you go bargain hunting right this second, you’ll pay $350 / £300-ish for a 1TB NVMe SSD from the likes of Samsung. Yes, you can go cheaper, but Sony is claiming that the PS5’s SSD will outperform all current PC SSDs. As such, $350 / £300 or more is about right.
With that in mind, we’re already looking at $1,000 / £1,000+ build. And that’s before you take other parts into account. We assume 32GB of RAM at a minimum, a Ryzen 7 equivalent CPU with 8 cores , and all the cooling, power, wireless tech, and casing required to keep everything together. That’s another $500 – $800 / £400 – £700 at least.
What To Do Once You’re In The Queue
Once you’re on the virtual queue, you’ll be given an estimated wait time. All wait times vary, and there’s a good chance you’ll have “more than an hour” wait. If that’s the case, don’t despair. Your status can rapidly change and you may have a shorter wait time than estimated. .
Additionally, you may be required to solve a captcha. It usually requires that you select a radio box. As a result, you’ll want to make sure your browser tab remains prominent, because if it’s not you might miss your captcha challenge and you could forfeit your place in line.

That starts with the design. Take one look at the PS5 and it’s obvious that this sexy alien beast is a marked change from anything PlayStation has done before. No longer are we looking at a console that fairly discretely slides into your TV media unit among your Blu-Ray player and set-top boxes. The PS5 design is new, fresh, and exciting, and it’s a dominating hunk of a console that many will no doubt struggle to love, let alone fit into their current TV setup.
Although the stand allows horizontal positioning, it looks best vertically. Both this and the Xbox Series X are better thought of as closer to living room PCs than a traditional console. I’d never dream of lying my gaming PC on its side, and I think the same for both next generation platforms. These consoles have been made larger to accommodate more ventilation, bigger fans, and should ensure that the PS5 doesn’t end up sounding like a jet engine further down the line, like my launch PS4 Pro does now. At the moment, the PS5 is silent bar the whirrs of a disc spinning if you’ve gone for a physical release and hasn’t ever gotten hot to the touch, even after extending gaming sessions. Just be sure to give it ample space for air circulation to make sure it stays that way.

Sony released the highly coveted PlayStation 5 more than a year ago, but the gaming console remains one of the hardest-to-get items this holiday season. Hopeful gamers and game gifters are refreshing PS5 restock trackers online, trying to score the next-gen console ahead of this holiday season.
Why is the PS5 console so hard to get? In short, you can thank the pandemic-induced global chip shortage — and an increased demand for the PS5 and other electronics. It’s not just the PlayStation 5 that’s in short supply, of course — there’s a squeeze on chip-equipped items from cars to refrigerators.
The Sony PlayStation 5 is in such high demand, in fact, that retailers are using the console to sell memberships to their new premium shopping subscription services. Today’s PS5 restock at Best Buy was limited to those with Best Buy Totaltech Memberships — a service that costs $200 per year.
Walmart’s latest PS5 drop, similiarly, is limited to Walmart+ members. A Walmart+ premium membership includes early access to Black Friday deals, free two-day shipping, prescription drug discounts and more for $98 per year.

The PS5 with disc costs $499, whereas the PS5 Digital Edition costs $399. Unfortunately, it’s gonna be a long time before we see any discounts on the consoles. When Will Ps5 Stock Stabilize
Unfortunately, PS5 shortages will likely continue through 2022. According to Bloomberg, Sony recently informed analysts that PS5 demand is outpacing supply. “I don’t think demand is calming down this year and even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PlayStation 5 next year, our supply wouldn’t be able to catch up with demand,” CFO Hiroki Totoki reportedly said during a meeting with analysts.
However, Sony does plan to ramp up PS5 production over the summer and into the second half of 2021, so you may have a better shot at buying one before this holiday season. In an interview with Wired, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan said they’re working hard to improve the PS5 stock situation. “We see production ramping up over the summer and certainly into the second half of the year, and we would hope to see some sort of return to normality in terms of the balance between supply and demand during that period,” Ryan said.
