Will I Get A Ps5 On Release Day
While the increased supply could mean more consoles are available on Day One of the PlayStation 5’s release, logistical issues could prevent Sony from distributing consoles worldwide.
With consoles usually shipping from China via the sea, it can often be weeks or months before new batches of PS5’s make their way to North America or Europe.
During the PS4’s launch period, Sony used airlines to quickly distribute their console to consumers, but given the impact of Covid-19 on the airline industry, this may not be possible for the 2020 launch of the PS5.
However, according to Daniel Ahmad, Sony has ensured US retailers will receive their PS5 stock by chartering 60 planes from Delta for October onwards, despite the significant cost this ensues.
We’d recommend keeping an eye on all the PS5 pre-order pages to ensure you secure your console before anyone else.
Now That Both Consoles Are In Customers Hands Can We Already See Which Console Sold More
This past week has already seen the launches of the next-gen, now current-gen consoles the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X in many territories across the world.
While the UK is awaiting the launch of the PS5 next week, some eyes are already turning to the sales that both consoles have made already.
Granted, its not all about sales, but its interesting to see how they stack up in a, unique year such as 2020.
With that, lets look into how many PS5 consoles have been sold so far, and what the projections are from Sony for its first year.
Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X Sales Comparison
Despite this, we know that the Xbox Series X is still lacking behind PlayStation. The PS5 had double the sales of the Xbox Series X in Q1 2021 and there is very little to suggest anything has changed.
In fact, an industry expert believes that 8 million Xbox Series X/S consoles have been sold so far. This is impressive, but still only 60% of the total number of PS5 consoles sold so far.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X Sales
Its important to mention that Microsofts gaming chief Phil Spencer has stated that there wont be sales figures published any time soon for both the Series S/X.
He said that..I know it seems manipulative and Ill apologise for that, he says, but I dont want my teams focus on . The primary outcome of all the work that we do is how many players we see, and how often they play. That is what drives Xbox.
However, Sony CFO Hiro Totoki also said in a investor call that the company was aiming to exceed the 7.6 million sales of the PlayStation 4s first year.
Right now its far too early to tell, but there can be some speculation made in the meantime.
Global Parts Shortages Are Continuing To Hit How Many Ps5s Can Be Made And Sold
Sony is expecting to sell fewer PlayStation 5 units in the current financial year than previously forecasted. The company slashed its forecasts by millions of units due to ongoing component shortages.
Sony had previously expected to sell more than 14.8 million PS5s by March 2022 a number that would have seen the console exceed PS4’s on sales in its second financial year on the market. The company is now no longer expecting to be able to reach that level of supply, and is now forecasting 11.5 million sales for the year.
“Unfortunately,” said CFO Hiroki Totoki in a Q3 earnings call, “due to limitations on the supply of components especially semiconductiors and an increase in delivery times resulting from the disruption of the global distribution supply chain, we have revised our FY21 unit sales forecast for PS5 hardware to 11.5 million units.”
Totoki added that the supply constraints are likely to continue: “Limitations on the supply of components are expected to continue going forward, but we are continuing to exert every effort to meet the strong demand for PS5.”
Totoki added that he thinks it’s good for the company to maintain high sales targets in future, despite those issues.

How Many Ps5s Have Been Sold Since Launch
According to VGChartz, the PS5’s eight-month lifespan has seen it shift a whopping 9 million units. To put that into context, it means it’s already closing in on the lifetime sales of the Sega Dreamcast and Sega Saturn . Up next, the PS5 will surely overtake the Nintendo Wii U’s 13.56 million sold. After that, is the OG Xbox and its 24 million units sold between 2001 and 2009 in danger? We definitely think so.
Looking at recent sales, the tiny window of May 30 to June 5 saw another 200,000 PS5s sold – helping it nudge over the 9 million mark. In contrast, the Xbox Series X/S sold 112,864 units and now stands at 5.33 million units. Even though the PS5 is still ahead, a difference of just under 87,000 is getting smaller.
Elsewhere, PlayStation numbers says that figure has climbed to 9.1 million by June 17, and that the PS5 is tracking at 510,000 units ahead of the PS4 at this period in its own cycle. Could we really be on track for one of the biggest consoles of all time?
All of the above doesn’t take into account problems with semiconductors, which have led to supply issues across the board. The global pandemic has stunted the sales of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S thanks to gaps in the production chain, and it’s a problem both sides are still trying to rectify.
The Playstation 5 Launch Made History
The PlayStation 5 was finally released this month, and it sold out in the blink of an eye. Since then, gamers have had problems with scalpers attempting to fleece the people who weren’t fortunate enough to land a preorder or snag a console at launch. In fact, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan recently announced that the company’s entire stock of PlayStation 5 consoles were all gone. While that shortage of consoles has caused a headache for fans, the overall demand for Sony’s latest next-gen console has a bit of a silver lining.
In response to the PS5’s “unprecedented” level of success, PlayStation took to its official Twitter account to not only thank its customers, but also to reassure people that the consoles would be restocked in due time. In other words, it looks like disappointed PS5 fans won’t have to remain that way for too long.
“We want to thank gamers everywhere for making the PS5 launch our biggest console launch ever,” read the tweet. “Demand for PS5 is unprecedented, so we wanted to confirm that more PS5 inventory will be coming to retailers before the end of the year please stay in touch with your local retailers.”
Now if only there weren’t so many people being delivered random items, instead of the PS5.

Playstation 5 Supports 120 Frames Per Second
To get this high PS5 frame rate, you need a TV that supports 120 FPS and 4K resolution.
This typically means that the TV should support 120hz to get the optimal PS5 refresh rate for the maximum 120 FPS.
You also need a high-quality HDMI 2.1 cable to connect the TV and the console, and its good to have the latest system software update installed for everything to run smoothly.
The Ps5 Is Backwards Compatible With Most Ps4 Games
Nearly every PS4 game will work on the PS5. To quote Sony on the matter: more than 99 percent of the 4,000+ games available on PS4 will be playable on PS5. And even better, some PS4 games will run at higher or smoother frame rates on PS5, thanks to something Sony is calling Game Boost. In early tests, Digital Foundry found that the PS5 brings notable improvements to many PS4 games. See for yourself in this video:
That said, Sony says that some PS4 games will be missing functionality or may may exhibit errors or unexpected behavior on PS5. And 10 PS4 games arent playable at all on the PS5:
- Joes Diner
Youll also be able to play some PS3 and PS2 games on your PS5 through Sonys PlayStation Now cloud gaming service, which Sony only recently revealed would be supported by the new console.

Playstation Studios Has More Than 25 Ps5 Games In The Works Jim Ryan Reiterates
Believe it or not, the PlayStation 5 has just turned one year old. We’ve survived a full 12 months with Sony’s new hardware, and the company has marked the occasion with a PlayStation Blog post from top brass Jim Ryan. While it’s mostly a letter of thanks to the fans, one detail jumps out, and it’s not to do with year one at all.
The head honcho has said it before, but it’s no less exciting to hear it again. PlayStation Studios, Sony’s first party development group, has “more than 25 games in development for PS5”.
He describes the PS5’s first year as a “busy year indeed”, with the platform holder publishing several key games like Returnal and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and making several acquisitions to strengthen its in-house efforts. However, it seems like this statement aims to say Sony is only just getting started.
In an interview with Wired earlier this year, Ryan said that “nearly half” of those 25+ games are brand new IPs. So, while it seems we will be getting plenty of new entries in established series, we can look forward to lots of fresh titles too.
With Sony playing its cards close to its chest these days, we don’t know what the vast majority of these games are. There are always rumours floating around, but with over 25 games in the pipeline, it’s anyone’s guess what’s going on right now, and that’s pretty exciting. Let’s see what year two of PS5 brings us.
How Many Ps5s Have Been Sold So Far October 2021
Sony has announced an updated number for the total amount of PS5 consoles sold find out how many gamers have managed to get a next-gen PlayStation so far.
The PS5 has been extremely hard to get over the first year following its release. However, this isnt an indication of low sales.
In fact, it is the complete opposite. The demand for consoles is higher than ever, even if the shortage of components has slowed down the production of next-gen systems.
Despite these production difficulties though, the PS5 is posting record sales numbers. Whats more, Sony has just announced the total worldwide sales for the console.

History Of Playstation 2
The PlayStation 2 was announced in 1999 and released in Japan on March 4, 2000, in North America on October 26, 2000. The PS2 went on to sell over 155 million units over its lifespan making Sony a dominant force in the game industry, beating not only Nintendos N64 and Gamecube, but also SEGAs Saturn and Dreamcast consoles. Despite, Microsoft entering the competition with the release of the more powerful Xbox, Sony held onto market dominance.
The PS2 drove the new DVD format to the masses and revolutionized gaming for a new generation. It was by far the cheapest DVD player on the market when the PS2 launched. Not only was it the next-generation game console, but you could also watch movies in crisp 480p on your CRTV with 3 to 5 channel Dolby sound.
While the PS2 had online support, it was severely limited when compared to Xbox Onlines service. You had to buy a PlayStation 2 Network Adaptor and use dial-up or broadband internet to connect to your game which ran on on third-party servers. Eventually, Sony released the PS2 Slim in 2004, which included networking ports on the console. Games like Burnout 3: Takedown, Call of Duty 3, Resident Evil Outbreak, Socom 2 U.S. Navy Seals, and Twisted Metal: Black Online were popular using the online capabilities of the time.
Ps5 Sales Hit 173 Million Now Selling Slower Than Ps4
PlayStation 5 console sales have now reached a total of 17.3 million as of 31st December 2021. It means Sony sold a further 3.9 million units during the third quarter of its 2021 fiscal year. However, while the PS5 has been the fastest-selling PlayStation console of all time during its lifespan so far, these latest results mark when that is no longer the case. During the same timeframe last generation, Sony sold 20.2 million PS4 consoles.
Sales are also down compared to the same Q3 period of the previous fiscal year, when Sony moved 4.5 million PS5 systems. The Japanese company has blamed the ongoing semiconductor shortage for this, which has made producing the console at a rapid rate much harder. Sony expects these supply issues to continue, but also reckons the difference will be made up over time with future quarters returning high sales numbers.
As a result, Sony has lowered its overall forecast of PS5 shipments for the fiscal year to 11.5 million units. This is down from 14.8 million. Its projections for the full-year revenue estimates of the company’s games and network services division is also lowered to $1.48 billion.
PS5 Stock has been at a premium for almost 18 months now, and it doesn’t look like the situation will improve any time soon. Sony will at least be happy the console sells as soon as it makes contact with a physical store shelf or an online shop advertises stock. If you’re from Europe, you can now directly through Sony.

History Of Playstation 3
The PlayStation 3 launched on November 11, 2006 in Japan and November 17, 2006 in North America. It was by far the most expensive console by Sony, releasing with a $499 price tag for the 20GB model and $599 for the 60GB model due to the new Blu-ray format. The system was highly criticized early on for its high price tag, Sixaxis controller and poorly developed multi-platform games.
The unique Cell architecture was a large hurdle for developers in the beginning, but over time they were able to unlock the full potential of the console. Despite its hardships early on, the PS3 would eventually become one of the highest selling consoles of the seventh generation, selling 87.4 million units.
The PS3 was Sonys first real attempt at online capabilities too. Even though the PS2 technically had online support through a Network Adaptor, the release of the PS3 took things a step further with things like the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, and eventual PlayStation Plus subscription service.
PlayStation Home was fun while it lasted, allowing players to meet in virtual spaces using their own custom avatar. It was launched as an open beta in December of 2008, and eventually closed down in March of 2013. Each user was given a personal studio that users could furnish with free, paid, or won items. Users could explore Homes virtual spaces, from The Hub to various districts like Action District, Sportswalk, Pier Park, and Shopping Centre.
