During the PS4’s launch period, Sony used airlines to quickly distribute their console to consumers, but given the impact of Covid-19 on the airline industry, this may not be possible for the 2020 launch of the PS5.
However, according to Daniel Ahmad, Sony has ensured US retailers will receive their PS5 stock by chartering 60 planes from Delta for October onwards, despite the significant cost this ensues.

Despite this, we know that the Xbox Series X is still lacking behind PlayStation. The PS5 had double the sales of the Xbox Series X in Q1 2021 and there is very little to suggest anything has changed.
In fact, an industry expert believes that 8 million Xbox Series X/S consoles have been sold so far. This is impressive, but still only 60% of the total number of PS5 consoles sold so far.

Its important to mention that Microsofts gaming chief Phil Spencer has stated that there wont be sales figures published any time soon for both the Series S/X.
He said that..I know it seems manipulative and Ill apologise for that, he says, but I dont want my teams focus on . The primary outcome of all the work that we do is how many players we see, and how often they play. That is what drives Xbox.
However, Sony CFO Hiro Totoki also said in a investor call that the company was aiming to exceed the 7.6 million sales of the PlayStation 4s first year.
Right now its far too early to tell, but there can be some speculation made in the meantime.

Global Parts Shortages Are Continuing To Hit How Many Ps5s Can Be Made And Sold
Sony is expecting to sell fewer PlayStation 5 units in the current financial year than previously forecasted. The company slashed its forecasts by millions of units due to ongoing component shortages.
Sony had previously expected to sell more than 14.8 million PS5s by March 2022 a number that would have seen the console exceed PS4’s on sales in its second financial year on the market. The company is now no longer expecting to be able to reach that level of supply, and is now forecasting 11.5 million sales for the year.
“Unfortunately,” said CFO Hiroki Totoki in a Q3 earnings call, “due to limitations on the supply of components especially semiconductiors and an increase in delivery times resulting from the disruption of the global distribution supply chain, we have revised our FY21 unit sales forecast for PS5 hardware to 11.5 million units.”
Totoki added that the supply constraints are likely to continue: “Limitations on the supply of components are expected to continue going forward, but we are continuing to exert every effort to meet the strong demand for PS5.”
Totoki added that he thinks it’s good for the company to maintain high sales targets in future, despite those issues.

According to VGChartz, the PS5’s eight-month lifespan has seen it shift a whopping 9 million units. To put that into context, it means it’s already closing in on the lifetime sales of the Sega Dreamcast and Sega Saturn . Up next, the PS5 will surely overtake the Nintendo Wii U’s 13.56 million sold. After that, is the OG Xbox and its 24 million units sold between 2001 and 2009 in danger? We definitely think so.
Looking at recent sales, the tiny window of May 30 to June 5 saw another 200,000 PS5s sold – helping it nudge over the 9 million mark. In contrast, the Xbox Series X/S sold 112,864 units and now stands at 5.33 million units. Even though the PS5 is still ahead, a difference of just under 87,000 is getting smaller.
Elsewhere, PlayStation numbers says that figure has climbed to 9.1 million by June 17, and that the PS5 is tracking at 510,000 units ahead of the PS4 at this period in its own cycle. Could we really be on track for one of the biggest consoles of all time?
All of the above doesn’t take into account problems with semiconductors, which have led to supply issues across the board. The global pandemic has stunted the sales of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S thanks to gaps in the production chain, and it’s a problem both sides are still trying to rectify.

The PlayStation 5 was finally released this month, and it sold out in the blink of an eye. History Of Playstation 2
The PlayStation 2 was announced in 1999 and released in Japan on March 4, 2000, in North America on October 26, 2000. The PS2 went on to sell over 155 million units over its lifespan making Sony a dominant force in the game industry, beating not only Nintendos N64 and Gamecube, but also SEGAs Saturn and Dreamcast consoles. While the PS2 had online support, it was severely limited when compared to Xbox Onlines service. You had to buy a PlayStation 2 Network Adaptor and use dial-up or broadband internet to connect to your game which ran on on third-party servers. Eventually, Sony released the PS2 Slim in 2004, which included networking ports on the console. Games like Burnout 3: Takedown, Call of Duty 3, Resident Evil Outbreak, Socom 2 U.S. Navy Seals, and Twisted Metal: Black Online were popular using the online capabilities of the time.

PlayStation 5 console sales have now reached a total of 17.3 million as of 31st December 2021. It means Sony sold a further 3.9 million units during the third quarter of its 2021 fiscal year. However, while the PS5 has been the fastest-selling PlayStation console of all time during its lifespan so far, these latest results mark when that is no longer the case. During the same timeframe last generation, Sony sold 20.2 million PS4 consoles.
Sales are also down compared to the same Q3 period of the previous fiscal year, when Sony moved 4.5 million PS5 systems. The Japanese company has blamed the ongoing semiconductor shortage for this, which has made producing the console at a rapid rate much harder. Sony expects these supply issues to continue, but also reckons the difference will be made up over time with future quarters returning high sales numbers.
As a result, Sony has lowered its overall forecast of PS5 shipments for the fiscal year to 11.5 million units. This is down from 14.8 million. Its projections for the full-year revenue estimates of the company’s games and network services division is also lowered to $1.48 billion.
PS5 Stock has been at a premium for almost 18 months now, and it doesn’t look like the situation will improve any time soon.
