Is there a split-screen in Fortnite? Absolutely. Fortnite may have the reputation of being an online multiplayer video game played by solo gamers on a single device, but the title actually supports a hidden split-screen mode that allows two separate players to play online together, on the same screen, and at the same time.

The option to use Fortnites split-screen feature is only available on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Split-screen is not supported on mobile, PC, or the Nintendo Switch.

It’s completely understandable to ask if split-screen still exists in Fortnite, as the option doesn’t appear in any menu and is turned on automatically when a second player is detected.

Heres everything you need to know about how to get split-screen on Fortnite on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, or PS5 consoles.

The Shuffled Shrines Puzzle In Fortnite Allows Players To Enter The Secret Door

First and foremost, you must visit the brand new Shuffled Shrines POI on the Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 3 island. It is located south of Sanctuary, and has been marked in the image below:

After landing, you have to search the location for clues and find four runes on each edge of Shuffled Shrines. They will display one of these Red, Blue, and Yellow symbols:

The runes will be scattered across Shuffled Shrines and their symbol resets every game. Hence, you should not try copying the patterns that worked for others.

It is important to find the fure runes and then head to the middle of Shuffled Shrines where you will find four interactive runes in front of a door.

Solving the puzzle is basically a game of hit-and-miss. You have to rotate the runes according to the clues. To open the door, the symbols on the runes in front of the door should be identical to the ones that are scattered around Shuffled Shrines.

Couch co-op, or the ability for two players to play a game on one screen, is seeing a return to popularity. With this in mind, Epic Games has made a limited re-launch of the Split Screen feature for its most popular title, Fortnite.

In this article, well show you how to use split screen in Fortnite, in case you want to try out this interesting game mode.

Can You Play Split Screen On Fortnite

Yes, you can play split screen in Fortnite. It was temporarily disabled for a while but since the v19.01 update in Chapter 3 Season 1, the ability to play in split-screen mode has been re-enabled by Epic Games.

This means you can hop into the Battle Bus once more to play some rounds with friends at home.

The Disadvantages Of Split Screen

Only two players can play at the same time, so you wont be able to Squad up completely unless your other friends have their own systems in the same room. For example, playing together on Nintendo Switches to fill out a Squad can be a great party experience.

Of course, having more players together puts a performance tax on both your Internet and Console performance. If you have slow internet you may have trouble staying connected with multiple users, and if youre on an aging Xbox One or PS4 you may run into some performance compromises.

Theres also an issue of screen real estate. Split screen Fortnite preserves the original aspect ratio for both players, so youre really playing on a quarter of your TVs size. The bigger your TV, the better.

Fortnite Split Screen Guide

Fortnite Split Screen was first released in the popular video game in December 2019. Since then, Epic Games has made several changes and improvements to it to ensure the best possible experience.

Currently, players can only play Fortnite Battle Royale and Creative mode through the split screen. Creative mode is not natively supported, but a workout is available. Unfortunately, Fortnite: Save the World does not support the cooperative mode, which is very unfortunate.

  • Log into the game with your main account and enter the main lobby.
  • Turn on the second controller.
  • Hold the triangle or Y button to log in with the second account.
  • Ready up and play the game.

It is important to note that both players must have an Epic Games account. Player 1 needs to log in to their Epic Games account, and the same goes for Player 2.

A new account can be easily registered on Epic Games’ official website. This is also a perfect opportunity for players to enroll in the Refer-A-Friend program and earn free skins.

    Tips For Playing In Split

Although its fun to jump into a bit of couch co-op, you wont want to overlook the potential downsides. The biggest and most obvious issue is that it will cut your screen size in half. This makes teamwork and communication paramount, as youll rely heavily on your teammate to let you know what theyre seeing. The split-screen option will only show feeds in horizontal orientations, and you cant switch it back to vertical. This isnt the worst thing in the world, but if you prefer to run your co-op vertically, it might take some adjusting. So long as youre mindful of these drawbacks, the split-screen mode can be a lot of fun and is a great way to introduce your friends to the Fortnite craze.

While Fortnite is available on just about every system under the sun, split-screen mode is limited to Xbox and PlayStation consoles. The feature was added in 2019, and Epic Games hopes to roll out the feature to PC and Switch users in a future update. Unfortunately, we still have no indication as to when that update will arrive. Until then, the mode is limited to playing Fortnite on Xbox and Sony consoles. If you’re running it on either Series X, Series S, or PS5, you’ll benefit from frame rates of up to 60 frames per second.

Which Fortnite Game Modes Can You Play In Split Screen

How to split screen fortnite on ps4

Despite featuring many different game modes, the number of ways you can play Fortnite in a split-screen setup will be limited. Solo, Creative, and Team Rumble game modes will be disabled when you activate the split-screen feature.

The Duos and Squads game modes will be the only available modes to split-screen users in most cases. Regardless of the game mode, both players will have their separate inventories and wont be able to share looted items automatically unless they manually do it themselves.

If you cant seem to enable the split-screen function by using the recommended method for your console, chances are Epic may have disabled the feature due to a bug or anomaly. In such situations, Epic generally lets the players know through its social media channels. The feature becomes available once again when Epic fixes the underlying errors and bugs. The time it takes for split screen to return, when its down, depends on Epics schedule.
