Will My PS Plus Membership Carry Over To PS5? As we speed toward the Holiday 2020 release of Sonys next-generation PS5 console, a common query has been whether or not your existing PlayStation Plus membership will carry over to PS5. Luckily, we have the answer!
PlayStation Plus is a hardware agnostic service that sits above the platforms that can access it. Therefore, even right now, your current PlayStation Plus subscription will apply not just to your PS4 console, but also your PS3 and PS Vita consoles too and for no extra cost.
As such, unless Sony intends to phase out PS Plus entirely , your current subscription will carry over onto PS5 without any issue .
While we expect that PS Plus will offer free games on PS5 as it has done on PS4 , it is entirely possible that some additional tier could be implemented that would be exclusive to PS5 owners. Of course, this is mere speculation at this stage, but we wouldnt be surprised to see that come to pass.
The PlayStation 5 will support a wide range of features under its belt when it launches, including backwards compatibility with PS4 games, a dedicated SSD to reduce loading times, plus support for 8K resolution and hardware accelerated ray-tracing.
How Do Playstation Plus Free Games Work
PlayStation Plus provides a number of games for free each month. The service typically provides two PlayStation 4 games, two PlayStation 3 games, and two Vita games. To access these games, you “buy” them and add them to your library, but they don’t cost anything.
Once you’ve added a free PlayStation Plus game to your library, you have access to it as long as you have a valid subscription. You can delete games to free up space on your console, and you’ll still have the ability to download them again later.
If your PlayStation Plus subscription runs out and you don’t renew, then you lose access to your free PlayStation Plus games. However, Sony keeps track of every game you’ve ever gained access to through PlayStation Plus. If you renew your subscription at a later date, you automatically regain access to all of your old free PlayStation Plus games.

If you buy that in 1-month amounts, you spend double that. So if you know youre going to keep it for a year at the least, going with the 12-month option saves you the most money.

To compete with Xbox Live Gold, Sony created PS Plus in 2010 for the PlayStation 3. The subscription allowed for online multiplayer, discounts in the PSN Store, cloud saves and monthly extra games. Initially, PS Plus free games included PS3 and PSP titles. Eventually, it included Sony’s other devices such as PS Vita, PS4 and most recently, the PS5. Extra games included with the subscription are only available while a PS Plus subscription is active. Stop paying, and you lose access to those games.
There’s an extra bonus for PS5 owners. PS Plus subscribers who have managed to get a PS5 also have access to the PS Plus Collection, a library that includes some of the best PS4 games, such as God of War, Bloodborne and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
PS Plus is still needed for most online multiplayer, but it’s not required for free-to-play online games such as Fortnite, Call of Duty Warzone and Apex Legends. Microsoft recently moved free-to-play games like Fortnite out from behind the Xbox Live Gold paywall as well.
Even if you aren’t interested in online multiplayer, It’s still a subscription that can pay for itself multiple times over with the monthly bonus games. In 2021 alone, PS Plus subscribers received Control, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Battlefield V and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
How To Do Remote Downloads For Ps Plus Games
It’s possible to remotely download PS Plus games onto your PS4 from the PlayStation Store.
To do this your PlayStation 4 must have Automatic Update switched on.
To activate Automatic Update, you must first ensure your PS4 is connected to the PlayStation Network.
To do this head to ‘Settings’ and find ‘Set Features Available in Rest Mode’. You’ll then need to tick the check box next to ‘Stay Connected to the Internet’ and then do the same thing for ‘Enable Turning On of PS4 from Network.’
Next, you’ll want to head back to ‘Settings’ and select ‘Automatic Download.’ On this new page, scroll down to ‘Application Update Files’ and click the check box next to it.
Now, when your PlayStation 4 is in rest mode, it will download any PS Plus game you select from the PlayStation Store.

PlayStation Plus is not connected to the PS4, rather it applies to the PS5, PS Vita, and even PS3 all under one subscription. Your current PS4 subscription will carry over to PS5 without issue.
Think of PlayStation Plus like a gym membership that covers all gyms around the country, because of that membership you can go to the gym in your city as well as across the country assuming the membership gives you access.

New Playstation Plus Report Has Subscribers On Ps5 Worried
A new report about the PS5 has good news for owners of the latest Sony console, but bad news for PlayStation Plus subscribers on the console. Several months ago, we relayed that the PS5, like the PS4, had a CBOMB/CMOS issue that meant if the battery died on a PS5, users would lose the ability to not only play their digital games, but their physical games, in the hypothetical future where PSN servers are down, whether temporarily or permanently. Of course, the latter is unlikely, but the former — a temporary outage — has been a problem in the past. That said, thankfully Sony was quick to fix this issue, mostly. The issue is still very relevant for PS Plus subscribers on the console.
As Does It Play relays over on Twitter, physical PS5 and PS4 games that were having trouble installing to a console with a dead battery are no longer having any issues. This also applies to digital PS4 and PS5 games. It does not apply to PlayStation Plus games, or in other words, games you have on your console through PlayStation Plus.
Now, if you read the fine print of PlayStation Plus, you’ll know you don’t own any of the games you download through it. You basically have extended rentals. This is why if your subscription lapses you lose access to these games. So, it makes sense that PlayStation Plus games wouldn’t work if the service is gone. That said, it’s still not ideal.

How Long Can You Keep A Ps Plus Game
