How To Upgrade Your Ps5 Memory

This Is EXACTLY How Much Storage The PS5 Has

The PlayStation 5 is here, and it seems to have captivated its audience thanks to its tremendous horsepower, fun games, and fast solid-state drive . Despite its positive reception, the PS5 does have some flaws particularly in its small hard drive space of only 825GB. This might seem like plenty, but when you consider certain games clock in at over 100G and that you only really have around 660GB of free space after the operating system installation, your hard drive space can quickly run out.

Luckily, you can upgrade your PS5s memory, though it doesnt work exactly how you might expect. At this time, you cant upgrade your PS5s internal memory like you could with PS4, but you can utilize an external drive though it does have a caveat. The bottom line is that you can only install PS4 games onto an external drive, which directly frees up space on the systems internal drive for PS5 games. Heres how to upgrade your PS5s memory.

Eight: The Future Of Online Gaming

I want to discuss two potential elements in this aspect of the PS5. Online gaming is huge, and Sony stepped up their game with the new network on the PS4.

Weve also seen confirmation that early adopters of the PS5 wont be cut off from their friends. Sony confirmed that they will support the PS4 for another three years , and that people playing PS4 games on the PS5 will be able to play with their friends, so cross-generation support is confirmed!

In order to stay ahead of the game, Sony will most likely go through another evolution when it comes to their online scene. Here are the two major specs for the next gen:

1. Further Social Integration

PS4 brought with it the ability to use a new share button to upload video, screenshots, and even stream live. This marriage of social media and gaming is only going to improve and grow over time.

As part of this, the new DualSense controller has a create button which is supposed to replace and enhance the share button from the DualShock 4. We dont have all the details on what it does, but Sony says Were once again pioneering new ways for players to create epic gameplay content to share with the world, or just to enjoy themselves. Sounds interesting!

Well talk about how this is possible in a moment, but for now, expect your online life to be intertwined with your gaming life like never before.

2. PlayStation Plus 2.0

What Are The Ps5 Specs

In the almost seven years between the PS4 release and the PS5 release, there have been some considerable technological improvements in the world of gaming. The PS5 supports 8K graphics at 60Hz or 4K output at a 120Hz refresh rate. You can expect visuals to be crisper and more realistic, sounds to immerse you in your game better, and so much more.

Ill touch more on the difference in specs between the PS4 and the PS5 later. But for now, I want to stress how impressive the PlayStation 5 setup is. The PS5 very nearly matches gaming PC performance, especially with its support for ultra-wide monitors.

Check out the table below for a full PS5 spec rundown. Keep in mind that both the standard PS5 and the PS5 Digital Edition have the same specs, except for the Blu-ray drive.

When Even 16 Gb Is Not Enough

Some of us use the computer not only for games, but also for work. This is another scenario, where buying 32 GB of RAM may be a good idea, but it all depends on the specifics of your profession. If you often work with large files or working on multiple devices at once, investing in additional memory can bring you tangible benefits. Time is money, and a faster computer in such situations will be worth the commitment. As always you should research the subject matter â for example, it seems that additional memory helps in rendering 4K clips faster, but that actually isn’t the case.

Another interesting way to use extra RAM is to install a RAM Disk application, which allows you to convert any extra memory you have to an ultra-fast disk, which can be used, for example, to store temporary work files. This reduces the time needed to access them, which, when viewed from the point of view of an entire working day, can also save a lot of time, especially if you operate on numerous different documents every day. The creation of a RAM disk is very simple. Just download and install software such as Ultra RAMDisk or Radeon RAMDisk, and determine the amount of space you want to use in the settings. You may also have to install additional drivers that the app will ask for. You can find more info about that on the websites of these applications.

They Are Essentially The Same Product

Was The PlayStation 5 Worth The Wait And The 499 Price Tag

According to an interview with Eric Lempel, PlayStations Head of Global Marketing and Consumer Experience, the PS5 Standard and Digital versions are almost identical in their functionality. The digital version is quite literally just the same product without a disk drive and a slightly different appearance.

According to PlayStation, it was important that players have a level field with their products, and the digital only version is really just an option for players who have decided they dont care for physical products.

Most of you will already know exactly which one you want after seeing that, however for those of you still on the fence, here are some things to consider about which PS5 is for you.

The Ps5 Will Be Backwards Compatible

Sony Confirmed this! The PS5 will in fact be backwards compatible with PS4 games as we accurately predicted years ahead of time. The PS4 and PS5 share a similar architecture which is a win for gamers by making cross-gen games much easier to make and support.

The current situation is that the system will only work with PS4 games, so Microsoft has us beat here with their selection of titles going all the way back to the original Xbox. It looks like this could change, however.

In January of 2022, some interesting glitches popped up on the PSN. Most recently was a bug that turned PS4 trophies into PS3 ones.

Prior to that, another potential glitch showed PS3 games available to purchase on the PS5 store, which also kicked up a lot of discussion about what it could all mean.

Tracing this back to the beginning, a patent filed by Sony started this whole discussion around PS3, PS2, and PS1 backwards compatibility, discussions around the Spartacus game pass competitor notwithstanding.

Ps5 Ram Amount Speed Officially Confirmed By Sony

John-Paul Jones / March 18, 2020

Another element of the PS5s technical makeup was revealed by PlayStation Lead Systems Architect Mark Cerny today the system memory , and while it might not be as glitzy as the CPU, GPU and teraflop stuff on the surface, its still a super essential part of Sonys next-generation machine.

Long rumored to be boast around 16GB of GDDR6 system memory , we now know exactly not only how much RAM the PS5 has, but also just how fast that RAM will be too. Without further ado then!

How Much Ram Does The Ps3 Have

The PS3 has 256 MB of RAM. This may seem extremely low, but the PS3 was able to use this RAM extremely efficiently thanks to its highly efficient and fast CPU. The PS3 also has 256 MB of GDDR3 VRAM which also helps with its efficiency. The low RAM does cause performance issues in some PS3 games, though.

Consoles are very efficient with how they load and run games. Instead of moving an ocean with a few large buckets, the PS3 opts for many small buckets that it can load quickly.

This does have limits, though, which is why many people experience stuttering on their PS3. The PS4 and onward have moved onto unified RAM, instead of separate RAM and VRAM like the PS3.

Present: Partnership With Sony

How Many Games Does the PS5 Console Hold In its 825GB Memory? (PlayStation 5)

Around 1999, Sony was developing the hardware for the PlayStation 2. Yoshida, now executive producer of product development, contacted Cerny about helping to develop a graphics engine for the new console. Cerny accepted, and worked in Japan over a three-month span, being the first American to work on the PlayStation 2. Once the engine was complete, Cerny helped both Naughty Dog and Insomniac with their first PlayStation 2 titles, Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy and Ratchet & Clank, respectively, as well as several sequels in both series that followed. During this period, Cerny developed his “Method” approach for game development from his experience on the “dos and don’ts” in the game industry. Cerny’s Method has since become a standard practice in the video game development industry.

How Do Ps5 Specs Vs Ps4 Specs Compare

One of the most considerable differences between the PS5 specs and the PS4 specs is the internal storage. The PS5 has an 825GB SSD, whereas the PS4 has a 500GB HDD. Aside from the difference in storage space, having a console powered by an SSD instead of an HDD makes it load so much faster.

PlayStations hardware lead, Mark Cerny, explained that it takes the PS4 about 20 seconds to load about 1GB of data. He stated that the goal with the PS5 was to load about 5GB of data in a single second. In practical terms, this means that load times were pretty much non-existent in our testing. There really is no comparison with older consoles here.

Besides upgrading from an HDD to an SSD, the PlayStation 5 also upgrades the CPU, GPU, RAM, I/O throughput, and the optical drive for discs. The PS4 had an eight-core AMD Jaguar CPU with a 1.6GHz, compared to the PS5s eight-core AMD Zen 2 CPU an AMD Radeon based GPU with only 1.84 teraflops in the PS4 compared to 10.28 teraflops in the PS5, and 8GB of GDDR5 in the PS4 compared to 16GB to GDDR6 in the PS5.

Overall, everything has received a massive upgrade, and you can expect games to look crisper, sound fuller, and load faster on the new PlayStation console.

Playstation Vr Aim Controller

The Aim Controller is an optional, abstractly-shaped light gun peripheral that was bundled with Farpoint and also sold separately for US$59.99. It is also compatible with a limited selection of VR shooter games, and mimics the feel of a gun more closely than a traditional gamepad. It has all the functions of a Dualshock controller, and, unlike the PS3-era Sharp Shooter accessory, does not require a PlayStation Move controller to be slotted in. It was praised by IGN as “a must-have for VR shooter fans on PlayStation”.

Ps5 Ram Vs Xbox Series X Ram

While the PS5 uses 16GB GDDR6 VRAM plus 512MB DDR4 RAM, the Xbox Series X uses 10GB GDDR6 VRAM plus 6GB of another GDDR6 VRAM. The configuration is a weird shared memory setup, where the entire OS is allocated 2.5 GB of the slower 192-bit 6GB capacity, while games manage both visual assets and CPU loads with the remaining 3.5GB 192-bit and 10GB 320-bit capacity.

It may sound like a bottlenecking nightmare, but performance-wise, though, the difference is actually pretty indistinguishable from the two.

How Much Ram Does The Ps4 Have

PS5 Vs. X Box Series X! Does The Difference IN Specs Really Matter ...

The PS4 has 8 GB of RAM. All versions of the PS4 have 8 GB of GDDR5 RAM. The PS4 Pros RAM is still 24% faster than the regular PS4s RAM though. Theres no way to add RAM to the PS4 or PS4 Pro, but it isnt necessary. The PS4 also has no VRAM and instead uses system RAM as VRAM.

The PS4 is pretty similar to the PS5 in architecture. Neither console has VRAM, but use unified RAM instead.

The PS4 has only 8 GB of RAM, though, which is half of what the PS5 had. Its still a substantial upgrade from the PS3, though.

How Much Do You Think Youll Use Your Console And What Is Your Internet Situation

Perhaps the biggest obstacle for the PS5 Digital edition is the fact that it does limit your options. If you live in an area with slow or spotty internet, then the digital version could make getting games take much longer than expected.

Likewise, if you play a lot of games, you may find the digital version cumbersome to use unless you buy additional storage space. However, good storage space may be cheaper in the long run than upgrading to the standard edition.

Ultimately, it will be up to you to consider what works best for you and to make your own decisions.

PS5 Global launch schedule:

A Gaming Pc And Ps5 Differ In Price

At the time of release, the PS5 cost around $450 $500. This has come down a lot since then, with the disc version retailing at under $400, and the digital version at around $350. Unfortunately, this means no gaming PC can compete with the value. At the same price, a gaming PC would be seriously underpowered and would only cope with 1080p gaming in low-medium settings . This is partly because of the GPU shortage and price hike, making it near impossible to get a decent budget system. You have to settle for integrated graphics, which are good for the price but youll never be able to play in 4K.Of course, you arent just going to be buying the console, you may pick up an extra controller and you are likely to want the PS Plus membership. Even with this, your total isnt going to be above $600. To put it in perspective, this is roughly the amount a GPU would cost that is capable of 4K gaming.A PC may cost a lot more than a PS5 but you get the added benefits of being able to use it for much more than gaming. Dont forget, you can upgrade your PC slowly too and dont need to buy the latest console just to play with friends.

Ps5 Ssd: How Much Storage Space Does It Have

How much storage space does PS5’s SSD have? With all games requiring an install and many choosing to purchase software through the PlayStation Store, you may be wondering how much storage space there is on PS5, especially if you’re planning to purchase the PS5 Digital Edition . As part of our PS5 guide, we’re going to reveal how much storage space the PS5’s SSD has. For more information, you can refer to the following guide: PS5 SSD: Why It’s Better Than HDD. Nine: A Renewed Focus On Security And Privacy

Here’s Why PS5 Users Are Buying This Right Now

One of the largest hot-button topics right now is the issue of privacy and security. The PlayStation Network has been hacked and taken down more than a few times. Sony will have to show a new and more stable type of security to win back the trust of the consumers.

Right now there are many different ideas in play, but one that has been getting a lot of interest, and funding, is a sort of verification to go online that involves you showing a digital passport. Once youre online you can do as you like, but this extra step would add another layer of verification. This concept is being developed by DARPA as part of their National Cyber Range Security Programme.

The other option would be a form of two-step verification that uses biometric security. The popularity of biometric security skyrocketed in 2015 from 6 million users to 770 million. Fingerprint authentication is the major player, and this could easily be implemented into the PS5 in order to verify your identity when you sign in.

What Can You Do On A Ps5

The PS5 has come a long way from the older generation predecessors but its primary focus is still playing games. The addition of being able to install applications is one of the better features to come from next-gen consoles, allowing gamers to watch Netflix, YouTube, Twitch, and plenty more.

Additionally, the PS5 benefits from its own line of VR headsets, and the recently announced PSVR 2 is looking like its going to be a Valve Index competitor. That is about it for PS5 functionality but as far as multimedia goes, it does reasonably well.

What Can You Do On A Gaming Pc

Even if you buy yourself a mid-range gaming PC, it is going to be capable of playing every game you want, in 1080 or 1440p. You can obviously do everything from general work, to playing games on a PC. You can tailor your PC build to fit your personal budget and gaming needs. You can personalize every aspect of a PC, where you get what you are given with a PS5.

A PC is easily upgradeable, as long as you have the money, so no need for a new model every generation.Almost every game is available on PC, with the odd exception, and while some games may not be ideal on keyboard and mouse , you can just buy/use a compatible controller. You can also get all the same access to media and applications as a console, however, a PC is often at a desk rather than a comfy couch, so you may need to consider your gaming setup.

With a PC, there is no need to worry about backward compatibility, if the game was released for PC and still has support, you can just jump in. You can take advantage of exclusive modern titles on a gaming PC and if you can afford a high-end rig, the experience is superior. So what cant you do on a gaming PC? You obviously cant play PS5 exclusives but everything else is fair game.
