Sony had only planned on the production of 5 million PlayStation 5 games consoles by the end of March 2021. However, as the popularity of gaming exploded during the first lockdowns, Sony doubled PlayStation production to meet 10 million units by the same date.
Sadly, it wasn’t enough.In May 2021, Sony privately warned analysts that PlayStation 5 shortages would continue until 2022: “I dont think demand is calming down this year and even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PlayStation 5 next year, our supply wouldnt be able to catch up with demand,” said Hiroki Totoki, Sony’s Chief Financial Officer.
On 12th November 2021 the PS5’s first birthday Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Jim Ryan addressed historic demand for the PS5 in a PlayStation.Blog post. Ryan admitted that “inventory constraints remain a source of frustration for our customers” and said that Sony is “laser-focussed” on shipping as many console units as possible.
It all sounds very positive but the truth is, the company expects to produce one million fewer consoles 15 million, rather than 16 million in the financial year ending March 2022.

Another PS5 restock is now live at Walmart, but once again this latest batch of consoles will only be available to Walmart+ members. Here’s how to get yourself signed up and be ready to go for the drop on December 8.
If you’re not already a Walmart+ member, you can sign up for $12.95 per month. It might sound like a hefty price to pay when you aren’t guaranteed to get a console, Walmart has been one of the best retailers to get a PS5 since they introduced this system.
If you don’t want to pay for a membership then there will likely be a general sale that goes live after this members-only window. However, based on previous restocks, the PS5 will almost certainly sell out before this even begins.

No longer are we looking at a console that fairly discretely slides into your TV media unit among your Blu-Ray player and set-top boxes. It’s been a busy week for PS5 restocks. Best Buy had a big PS5 restock this afternoon for both the standard and digital editions, but they are now all sold out.
Starting at 11 a.m. ET on Friday there will be a PS5 restock at GameStop. The bundle being made available to those interested includes the following:

Sony further outlined the process of transferring digital games, game data and game saves from your PS4 to your PS5. This is done by using an ethernet cable or by connecting with WiFi. And, PS Plus members can sync PS4 game saves onto PS5 through cloud storage.
Its important to note that if you have games or game data on an external USB drive, you can bring them over to your PS5 with that drive. Finally, Sony noted that the ability to transfer game saves between the PS4 version of a game and the PS5 version is up to each developer.

Playstation 5 Controller And Design
We now know what the PS5 looks like. It’s tall, narrow, and white with a black middle. The curved, slim shape is reminiscent of a router more than a game console, and it’s a significant contrast to the Xbox Series X’s stark, cubelike shape. Despite its odd shape, it apparently will be usable horizontally, and not have to stand vertically to work.
Before Sony revealed the PS5’s design, it unveiled the DualSense controller that will go with it. It keeps the same general layout as the DualShock gamepads Sony has used since the original PlayStation, but it’s rounded, white, and more friendly-looking than previous controllers.
