Sonys next-generation console is packing some pretty big muscles under the hood, including a meaty CPU and GPU, backwards compatibility with PS4 games, ultra-fast loading times thanks to the SSD, and more. But hows it measure up when it comes to resolution? Is it a true next-gen behemoth that will take full advantage of 1440p displays?
Sony has reportedly confirmed to IGN Italy that the PS5 will not support native 1440p. However, a future PS5 firmware system update could implement this capability.

While it is great that PS4 games will play on the PS5, there are still three generations worth of consoles prior to that which have a plethora of games on them, many of which are regarded as outright classics. How Does The Dualsense Play With Ps4 Games
The DualShock 4 is the best PlayStation controller Sony has ever made. But the DualSense is astounding, thanks to its impressive haptics and adaptive triggers. Going from playing a native PS5 game like Astros Playroom, which does spectacular things with vibration and the DualSenses built-in speaker, back to PS4 games illustrates just how much the new controller adds to the gameplay experience. For example, walking through the sewers of Bloodbornes Yarnham and sloshing through water, but receiving no matching controller feedback, immediately felt strange after playing Astros Playroom.
But the DualSense works just fine when playing PS4 games through backward compatibility, and Im growing more and more accustomed to it after seven years with the DualShock 4.
While Im feeling more comfortable with the DualSense, some PS4 games vibration schemes clearly feel designed with the DualShock 4 in mind because they were. The feeling of force feedback is not a one-to-one transition from DualShock 4 to DualSense. Playing Overwatch simply feels different in my hands, which is important, because contextual information like taking damage can be conveyed through different types of vibration. My colleague Samit Sarkar noticed similar issues with vibration fidelity in two games he tried, MLB The Show 20 and The Last of Us Part 2.
The upside here is that if you prefer the DualShock 4 for PS4 games, it can be used on PlayStation 5 to play previous-generation software.

PS4 games will play better on PS5 through the use of a “boost” mode, however this may cause compatibility issues and may not apply to every single game. You also might need to ensure that your PS4 games are installed to the PS5’s SSD , although you will have the option to save space by using a more traditional external HDD . PS4 to PS5’s free upgrades will work differently depending on how the publisher decides to support the initiative and which versions of the games you own. For example, if you purchase a digital copy of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on the PS4, then you’ll be able to upgrade to a digital copy of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on the PS5 free of charge. If you own a physical copy of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on the PS4, then you’ll need to hold on to your copy of the disc, as you’ll need to use this to play Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on the PS5.

Sony has mandated that all PS4 titles be forward-compatible with the upcoming PlayStation 5 ahead of the new console’s reveal next week.
Sony has previously promised that the upcoming PlayStation 5 will be backward compatible with most of the PS4s library of games, and now the company has just decreed that all titles being made for the current PlayStation console must be ready to run on the next one. While Sony has taken the slow road to releasing details regarding their next-gen system in comparison to Microsofts Xbox Series X, they have now shifted into high gear as the PS5s holiday 2020 street date looms on the horizon.
One of the many topics frequently brought up while discussing the PlayStation 5 , is backward compatibility, which would allow the system to play games from past PlayStation consoles in addition to its own. This is naturally appealing to some players since it would mean that they wouldnt have to keep their older hardware out and plugged in whenever they felt like dusting off a title from a past generation, as well as allow them to possibly sell their old systems in order to buy newer games and accessories. Will All Ps4 Games Be Backwards Compatible
There’s currently no list of the games that will be backwards compatible, and there’s no word on whether or not the compatibility will be physical or digital.
It works with the GPU seemingly mimicking the PS4 chip, which is good because it’s better than just emulation, but it still doesn’t answer whether or not we’ll be able to put our PS4 discs into our PS5s.
Nor does it address the issue for digital gamers, those who have hard drives full of games instead of a bookshelf full of them. It would make sense for both to be the case, but Sony hasn’t exactly shown any interest in making this the case previously.
It’s possible that discs will all work, but that digital purchases will be stuck on your PS4, meaning you may have to rebuy your games. It’s also possible it’s the other way around, or neither, or both. We know there is backwards compatibility, but we don’t know all of the specifics. Hopefully that’ll change soon.

As we discussed earlier, the PS5 can run the PS4 version of any game, even ones where you own it on both PS4 and PS5. Aside from reporters like me looking to cross-check both versions and preservationists who want to ensure people can retain every version of every game for historys sake, theres very little reason to hang back and play on PS4, rather than PS5.From a pure gameplay perspective, the PS5 version will always be better, but there are two small things that might bring you back. First, many games have separate sets of Trophies for PS4 and PS5. Trophies are PlayStations cross-generation progression that charts special milestones you hit in every game you play. If youre a trophy hunter and you want to play a game again earning all the PS5 trophies, you might be compelled to go back. Second, the PS4 and PS4 versions of a game are often different sizes. If your hard drive is nearly full, you can check to see if the PS4 game is smaller. Its actually bigger sometimes, though, so its a long shot.

The PS5s dimensions, weight, are substantial and confirm the fact that the PS5 is the biggest console in modern history.
The PS5 weighs in a 4.5kg and measures at 390mm x 104mm x 260mm. Meanwhile, the PS5 Digital Edition measures at 390mm x 92mm x 260mm, weighing in at 3.9kg. This is quite big when you compare it to the Xbox Series X size, which is just 301mm x 151mm x 151mm.

Before buying a new PS5, consider your PS4 collection. If youve been buying physical disc-based PS4 games, keep in mind that you will need to buy the PS5 model with a disc drive in order to play them.
There are two PS5 models available right now: The $499 standard model and a $399 digital edition, which does not have a disc drive. If you purchase the digital edition PS5, you will not be able to play any PS4 games that you purchased on disc. . Any PS4 games you purchased digitally will work on either machine.
