PS5 is upon us, although most stores have extremely limited stock, so act fast at these retailers.
It’s now December 2021, and despite the PS5 being “available” in Australia for over 12 months, it’s still virtually impossible to find. Given our proximity to Christmas, there’s every chance the major retailers will dole out some drops between now and 2022, but competition to secure them will be fierce, and if you want them before Christmas you may not have luck.
Still, while stock allocations are rare they do happen, so you’ll need to stay vigilant, as stock is likely to remain low into early 2022. When stock does appear, it tends not to last long, though we have our fingers crossed there will be a bit of a megadrop in the lead up to Christmas.
So yeah, PS5 stock replenishment is a fairly scattershot affair in Australia. Some retailers have been known to provide a few days advance notice, such as what Big W did in February , but more often than not they just appear. If there’s a local bricks-and-mortar store near you, it might be worth joining their waiting list, if they have one.
But the sad reality is that you’ll probably need to check the PS5 pages on each retailer’s site manually if you want a console right now: all relevant retailers are listed below. We’ll also update the top of this page occasionally when we get advance warning of a drop.

Sony hasn’t officially stopped production of all PS4 models. The 1TB Slim model and PS4 Pro are discontinued, but the 500GB Slim model is still considered an active console as of early this year. That said, we haven’t seen an in-stock listing for the 500GB at any major retailer for months. So, where does that leave you if you have your heart set on a brand-new PS4?
Combing through major retailer websites for new PS4 consoles can be bleak and pretty shocking. It’s not uncommon to find listings for $500 or more, and some bundles sold by third-party sellers top out around $1,000. That’s quite absurd.

While we’ve certainly seen new PS4 Slim consoles for much less before–especially during the holiday season–recent PS4 price history makes this bundle a solid deal. This bundle likely won’t be available for long, as GameStop’s PS4 console stock has seriously dwindled lately.
After digging through eBay listings, it’s pretty clear that GameStop’s current bundle is the best deal you’re likely to find. Most brand-new PS4s cost north of $400 on eBay and recent auctions have eclipsed the $350 price, too. You can save yourself some headache by getting the PS4 from GameStop with free two- to five-day shipping.

The PS4 is essentially available at full price there’s no saving to be had on the console. We might see a few PS4 bundle deals around Black Friday 2020 but this isn’t a guarantee given the level of demand we’ve seen this year. When Will Ps5 Be Widely Available
Unfortunately, there isnt a straight forward answer to this. Sony hasnt confirmed outright when PS5 will be readily available again, with various issues preventing that from happening. The main problem is still the shortage in components used to manufacturer PS5 until this shortage can be rectified, production will continue to be affected.
The situation has also been exacerbated by scalpers, who have snapped up restocks before reselling at exorbitant prices.
Back in February 2021, Sony admitted that shortages will continue while pledging to do everything it can to ship PS5s as quickly as possible. Furthermore, AMD, who manufacturers the chips used in PS5, reckons shortages will continue as far as mid-2022.
The hardware behemoth previously corrected predicted that supply issues would continue into the first half of 2021.
Elsewhere, while Sonys Jim Ryan remained hopeful that the situation would improve later this year, the format holder remained realistic, saying the problem could extend into 2022.
Taking all of this into account and while there is no definitive answer its highly unlikely that PS5 will be readily available for the last few months of 2021. The situation is unlikely to improve until well into 2022 at this rate, as AMD predicts.
Right now, your best bet at getting your hands on PS5 is to watch out for the limited stock availability at retailers in the US and UK as they happen.

John Lewis & Partners last had a PS5 drop at 7am on 3 November. As usual with the retailer, it didnt last very long, but it does always seem to drop at 7am like clockwork.
The retailer only appears to get a couple of thousand consoles or less each time new stock comes in, so were not expecting anything big the next time theres a drop. When it happens, we recommend checking out via the app people have seen more success through this method.

Unfortunately for US gamers, this newest announcement is apparently limited to the UK. Sony has apparently been taking out newspaper ads through England declaring that you can find the PS4 in stock at your local game store. Amazon UK also said in a statement they would be getting a fresh supply of PS4 consoles in for Friday, January 10th.
Sony has been using Twitter to make major announcements and, when asked last weel why Xbox One availability was good while the PS4 was not, all Sony could say was “be patient.” To a certain extent, this response makes perfect sense. Both the Xbox One and PS4 GPU and CPU are made by AMD, and both gaming companies rely on companies like Foxconn to assemble the final console. Assuming the manufacturing rate for both consoles is close to the same amount of one million consoles per month, this means that demand is much higher than supply based upon the PS4 sales numbers, which exceeds 4.2 million while the Xbox One only posted a little over three million.

Its difficult to find a PS5 in stock right now. If you dont want to mess with a retailer or waiting for orders to start back up when small amounts of stock trickle in, you can look for the PS5 at resellers like eBay and Craigslist.
People are reselling both versions of the PS5 on eBay for large amounts of money. In some cases, weve seen them listed at well over $1000. Thats obviously far from ideal, but its an option if youre tired of waiting.
Be careful to read the listing before you buy as weve seen questionable listings in the months since the PS5s initial release. eBay is pretty good at closing them down, but youll still want to exercise caution.
