Ps5 Restock News And Prices: Where To Get A Playstation 5 Console In December 2021
ByBeren Nealepublished 6 October 21
PS5 restocks are the only way to get a PlayStation 5 console or controller, but they don’t last long. Here’s the latest.
05. More PS5 details
PS5 restocks remain the only way to get hold of Sony’s latest console. A global chip shortage has prevented Sony from being able to meet demand for the PlayStation 5. This means that although the console was first launched last November, it’s currently very hard to get hold of.
The PlayStation 5 is actually Sony’s fastest-selling console to date, undoubtedly been fueled by Covid-19 lockdowns around the world. It’s shifted a staggering 10 million units by 18 July, and yet millions of people who want one have still been unable to buy. The situation looks set to continue for a while, so we’re left having to keep an eye on PS5 restocks, which don’t tend to last long .
We’ve seen PS5 restocks across a range of major retailers, including Amazon, Argos, GameStop, Best Buy and Walmart. A good strategy is to keep checking the retailers that we list below. One thing you shouldn’t do is trust people on social media who claim to have a PS5 to sell, especially if the price seems anywhere close to affordable. With people so desperate to buy a PS5, scammers have been taking advantage on the likes of Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok. We recommend only buying from trusted retailers to avoid ending up out of pocket.
Ps5 Slim Price And Release Date
The PS5 Slim will likely be cheaper than the original PS5s launch price of $499 / £449. Wed expect it to be around $100 cheaper, so $399 / £349, which was the launch price of the PS4. The original PS5 price tag of $499 / £449 will likely be replaced by a PS5 Pro, as was the case when the PS4 Pro released.
Its unclear whether Sony will release a PS5 Slim Digital Edition, but wed expect it to follow the same pricing scheme as before, with a discount of $100 / £90 over the disc version. That could make Sonys all-digital console incredibly appealing, but were not sure if Sony would pursue another digital model at this stage.
Historically, Sony tends to release a Slim version of its consoles three years after launch. This was the case with PS3 and PS4, while the PS2 Slim and PS One took four years and six years to arrive respectively. Its likely, then, that a PS5 Slim could arrive sometime in 2023 or early 2024.
Ps5 Restock Price And Discounts
The PS5 with disc costs $499, whereas the PS5 Digital Edition costs $399. Unfortunately, it’s gonna be a long time before we see any discounts on the consoles. However, we have noted some sales on PS5 accessories. Make sure to follow our PS5 deals coverage for deals on everything related to the PS5.

Sony Ps5 Setbacks Began With The Pandemic
Sony didn’t announce the PlayStation 5 for months during the first half of 2020 , allegedly delaying the initial reveal several times due to the pandemic. Rumors of a February launch event gave way to a supposedly scheduled March unveiling, turned into a April reveal that never was. We didn’t even see what it looked like until June.
Manufacturing and shipping timelines were stretched, and demand has outstripped supply it’s been seven years since a major Sony console launch. So Covid-19 has a lot to do with why you can’t find PS5 in stock today. Things didn’t get off to a running start for a product everyone wanted so badly.
But it’s not the only reason.
Ps5 Slim: When Will We See A Smaller Lighter Playstation 5
There shouldn’t be any doubt that Sony will eventually release a PS5 Slim. The Japanese company has always released a smaller and lighter revision of its home consoles from the original PlayStation to the PS4, meaning a PS5 Slim is surely a matter of when, not if.
Sony will be looking to shave off a few inches and knock a couple of pounds off the PS5s original polarizing design, then. However, a PS5 Slim isnt just about appealing to consumers who may have been put off by the consoles gargantuan size.
Slim consoles are essentially a cost-cutting exercise for companies. As manufacturing costs begin to wane and more efficient parts are available, Sony can create a smaller version of the PS5 that not only costs less to make, but delivers the same experience as its bulkier predecessor in a significantly smaller package.
* What is it? A smaller, lighter redesign of the PS5
* How much will it cost? We expect it will cost $399 / £349
* When will it be released? Probably sometime in 2023
In fact, Sony has already started to trim down the PS5, at least internally. New models of the PS5 Digital Edition, CFI-1100B, is a whopping 300 grams lighter than the launch model was, and Sony even decided to change the screw that comes with the PS5s stand, too. This revised console also has a redesigned heatsink, which resulted in a lighter system.

Ps5 Backwards Compatibility Can You Play Ps1 Ps2 & Ps3 Games On Ps5
Sony has only confirmed that the PS5 will not natively play PS1, PS2 and PS3 games. That said, we wouldnt be surprised however if Sony merely relied on PS Now to play PS3, PS2 and PS1 titles in much the same way that it does now.
For much more information on this, please check out our PS1, PS2 and PS3 compatibility article where we go into much more detail about how those older games might still end up on PS5.
Can Ps5 Output At 1440p Resolution
Sonys next-generation console is packing some pretty big muscles under the hood, including a meaty CPU and GPU, backwards compatibility with PS4 games, ultra-fast loading times thanks to the SSD, and more. But hows it measure up when it comes to resolution? Is it a true next-gen behemoth that will take full advantage of 1440p displays?

What Will The Ps5 Pro’s Specs Be
No clue, though I wouldn’t be surprised if it was boosted to a future generation of AMD’s processors given the estimated time frame, Zen 4 architecture CPUs and RDNA 3-architecture GPUs would make sense.

Should You Buy A Ps5 Today
The PS5 is still hard to find at a moment’s notice so if you’ve got your eye on one for the near future or as a gift for someone soon then our suggestion is to buy it as soon as possible – especially if you’re in the US.
While PS5 restocks are certainly more frequent this year, the console still doesn’t stay available for very long and it’s best to get one while you can rather than missing out on the opportunity. We definitely want to emphasise this for those in the US as PS5 restocks still sell out in a matter of minutes at most retailers there. Restricting sales to specific retailer membership programs has helped to curb the scalpers but it still requires speed, timing and a bit of luck to buy a console.
However, if you’re in no rush and would perhaps prefer to wait for any PS5 bundle deals then you can hold off for now. It might not be some time until the discounts you’re looking for are available in stores but who knows what the situation might look like in a few months’ time or closer to Black Friday.

Try Starting Ps5 In Safe Mode Again
Sometimes, all it can take is attempting to restart the PlayStation 5 in Safe Mode to cure the problem. As seen previously, the steps to do this are as follows:
Best Gaming Headset Under 100 Razer Blackshark V2 + Usb Soundcard: 9999 Razercom
Fans of the original Blackshark headset, released by Razer in 2012, should get excited about the remastered V2, which was released just last month. The V2 takes everything its predecessor mastered amazing audio, superior mic clarity, supreme sound isolation, premium comfort and enhances it, truly making this the gamers gaming headset.
For the audiophiles, the V2 offers a huge depth of customisation, from the 50mm drivers that allow individual tuning for highs, mids and lows to the soundcard and advanced mic controls that finetune the pick-up area and eliminate background noise so that you can deliver your burns loud and clear.
But the real USP is undoubtedly the superior features that come with Razers partnership with THX the movie-standard audio company of George Lucas fame. Not only does this deliver a lifelike and realistic 360 degrees of sound, but you are able to create profiles for your favourite games. You can adjust the settings to your liking, down to the finest detail, to ensure you are able to pinpoint and track your enemies allowing you to turn up softer sounds without overpowering the louder ones, like picking up footsteps during a chaotic firefight while the surround sound ensures you wont lose any of the immersive environment sounds. In layman’s terms, you hear sounds exactly where youd expect to hear them.

Sony Playstation 5 Design
The Sony PS5 console as seen in the image above stands vertically and sports a black and white design that matches the all-new DualSense controller. Its also worth noting that there are two versions of the console the standard console and the slimmer Digital Edition. Both have the same basic design, with the latter missing an optical drive.
Both consoles are also massive. Theyre the largest home consoles ever released and are more on par with a PC tower when it comes to space requirements. Keep this in mind before purchase or it might have to live on the floor in front of your TV.
While the console ships with a futuristic black and white color scheme, the side panels are easy to remove. Sony has nixed the idea of custom panels for now . Nevertheless, you can buy vinyl skins to give your PS5 a more customized look.
Another benefit of the new removable panels is that its much easier to clean dust from the fans. This should help the console run cool and quiet, especially over time. In our PS5 review, we noted that the console runs quiet, but as dust builds up over time that might change.
Ps5 Price And Latest Deals
The standard PS5 with its disc drive costs $499 / £449, while the PS5 Digital Edition is $399 / £359.
The standard PlayStation 5 price is on a par with the Xbox Series X, though, interestingly, the PS5 works out a little more expensive in certain countries.
The PS5 Digital Edition clocks in at $100 / £110 more than the Xbox Series S, but has a better spec list as it is essentially identical to the standard PS5, just without a 4K Blu-ray drive.
Various bundles are available, including the DualSense controller, while there’s also a charging dock, headphones, HD camera and a media remote as available accessories.

Ps5 Tflops How Many Teraflops Does Ps5 Have And What Do They Actually Mean
The PS5 is capable of outputting 10.28 teraflops. So it isnt any sort of slouch. Oh and each of those teraflops are worth more than their current gen equivalents because AMD Navi uses brand new RDNA 2 micro-architecture which basically gives you more power per TFLOP than what the PS4 and PS4 Pro are capable of. Also, teraflops in general are not the be all and end all of system performance. Heres why.
Playstation 5 Controller And Design
We now know what the PS5 looks like. It’s tall, narrow, and white with a black middle. The curved, slim shape is reminiscent of a router more than a game console, and it’s a significant contrast to the Xbox Series X’s stark, cubelike shape. Despite its odd shape, it apparently will be usable horizontally, and not have to stand vertically to work.
Before Sony revealed the PS5’s design, it unveiled the DualSense controller that will go with it. It keeps the same general layout as the DualShock gamepads Sony has used since the original PlayStation, but it’s rounded, white, and more friendly-looking than previous controllers. It kind of looks like the gamepad version of Baymax from Big Hero 6. Or a tiny pair of sunglasses with a huge white wig.

Playstation 5 Release Is Really Happening In 2020 According To Sony
Sony just confirmed the PS5’s release date and several upgrades to the new console.
Sony has made it official. The PlayStation 5 is coming at the end of 2020, according to a post Tuesday on the PlayStation Japan website. The US PlayStation site also has a post confirming the release window of the PS5 for the US as being the 2020 holiday season.
Details of the PS5 were made available to Wired Tuesday. The new PlayStation will not only be a graphical upgrade but also a rethinking of certain aspects of a console. Here’s everything we know so far about the PS5 so far.
For starters, Sony is changing how the PS5 will handle storage. The new solid-state drive will make games boot up faster and reduce loading times, and the console will handle games installation in a new way. Users will be able to install just a game’s multiplayer or single-player campaign instead of installing the whole game.
“Rather than treating games like a big block of data,” system architect Mark Cerny told Wired, “we’re allowing finer-grained access to the data.”
In April, Sony held a demo of the SSD in action in the new console versus the PlayStation 4 Pro. A video showed the PS5 booting a game several times faster and having no slowdown when traversing in an open-world game.
Sony also confirmed that PS5 dev kits are in the hands of developers who are working on new games for the console’s release.
New Ps5 Model Reportedly Releasing In 2022
Even though the first iteration of the PlayStation 5 is only about six months old, it looks like Sony is already planning to release a new version of the console at some point in 2022. While this information hasn’t been announced by those at Sony just yet, and the redesign as a whole shouldn’t be a drastic one, it sounds like some small tweaks could be coming for the next-gen platform.
News of this new version of the PS5 comes by way of DigiTimes, which says that those that manufacture units of the PlayStation console are planned to begin working on a new iteration in the second and third quarter of 2022. The new version of the hardware won’t be one that will do anything different than what the platform currently does, but it should feature some new internals. Specifically, a new CPU is said to be the newest offering within the console.
For the most part, this is a pretty standard procedure throughout the life cycle of any video game console. The Nintendo Switch, for example, had a new base model of the console release a few years after the initial version of the platform launched in 2017. While this new console contained a battery life that lasted a bit longer than the original one, it’s still unknown if this proposed 2022 PlayStation 5 revision would do anything all that different from the current slate of consoles.

Ps5 Restock Latest News And Rumors
Christmas is just days away, which means we’re now entering the last-chance saloon if you want a PS5 console for holiday gifting. GameStop will be holding an in-store PS5 restock on Thursday, December 23. The console will only be available in bundles and you may need to be a PowerUp Reward Pro member to purchase a console.
Meanwhile, if you want to increase your odds of getting hold of a PS5 before the end of the year, then make sure to sign up for Sony’s invite-only PS5 restock registration. You won’t be guaranteed a console, but it’s a great way to get your email into the mix and potentially be selected to participate in future Sony Direct drops.
An interesting restock-related tidbit has been uncovered recently. It looks like US lawmakers are once again attempting to ban the use of scalper bots. This could have a seriously positive impact on the availability of PS5 restocks, although pushes for similar laws in the past have ultimately been unfruitful. Hopefully, this time it sticks and scalpers ruining restocks becomes a problem of the past.
The PS5 could become an even more desirable console next year, as Sony is reportedly launching Project Spartacus to directly challenge Xbox Game Pass. The new service would combine PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now and grant PlayStation owners access to a library of classic and modern games for a monthly subscription fee.
